I began my CHristmas Eve with prayer, coffee, and watched the International Space Station fly over SE Virginia.
I have a text alert to let me know when it will be visible here.

https://spotthestation.nasa.gov gives you the scoop. if weather allows, it is pretty neat to watch something 250 miles up, one acre in size, traveling at 5 miles per second. makes a complete earth orbit every 90 minutes.

I too, enjoying watching it!

I very fondly recall one clear evening in Wyoming when I was able to see the ISS and the Space Shuttle, which had detached from the station only a bit before: two bright blobs flying in close formation across the sky. Magnificent.

amazing how clear air affects how far and how well you can see. I used to marvel at seeing mountains that were 2 hrs away at 60 mph, as clear as could be.

it has a staggered orbit, covers all areas of the planet, but will be visible pretty often, maybe 25 times a year or so at a given point I am guessing. It appears as a fairly big star would but it does not twinkle (only reflecting the sun's light) , if you can pick it out on the horizon as soon as it appears (which is tough to do), it is in sight for only 5 or 6 minutes.
