We went to a Northern Illinois university hockey game last weekend.But we’re back now!

Midland gets that way this time of year too. They limit the amount of driving on the 300 & 600 yard ranges. If there isn't standing water at the 400 yard firing point I can throw down a tarp and my shooting mat, shoot prone.

I've read the governor's EO which basically addresses social clubs. It's a pretty liberal interpretation of the language to close outdoor rifle/handgun/shotgun ranges, golf courses remain open though the club houses are take-out only. Maybe Denny's going to need a health card and a hazmat suit to grill hamburgers & hotdogs...

Barry County ConservationClub down one Hastings isnt closed; I have a combo to the front Colgate but not a key to the clubhouse but I can shoot whenever I want.

That's the nice thing about smaller clubs. At one time when I was running benchrest matches at Harrison I had both the gate key and key to the range house. I let that membership lapse eight years ago. I had hoped to take the granddaughters out shooting during their vacation.

It's much improved now. All the parking lots are paved. I was a member and rifle chairman back in the late 90's. Then I got out of it and just rejoined last year.

Just got notice that the Fruitport Club has shut down the clubhouse and all activities.
But the Outdoor Range is still open and members are to follow CDC guidelines.

Dad and I were members in the early 70's, but my first time there was 65-66.

We had our lowyers (actually, only one attorney who's on my trap team) read the bleeder governor's EO pretty carefully. It pertains to clubhouse activities, not outside events where people are not in close proximity to each other; like golf courses. Her spokesman concurred. So, like golf courses, our ranges are open, the club is closed.

I spent Monday, dressed up like 3 Mile Island wannabe, cleaning out the lead in the indoor range. Pulling out 100# chunks. Got enough lead dust in/on me to ward off Chernobyl radiation.

Pretty much what I said on Midland's FB page. I was told that the virus can live up to 72 hours on a hard surface, shooting benches are suspect. Didn't help when MIDNR shut down all state run ranges. Fookin liberals have taken over reigns of our gun clubs.

It's times like these that I'm glad e have my own range.
Shooting bench/window in the pole barn and AR500 gongs at 100, 200 and 250 yards.

This states simply that the DNR has closed shooting ranges. No mention of State, county or private, just closed shooting ranges. It's about what you expect from our esteemed DNR. The infestation of it by bunny hugging liberals is almost complete.

The midnr closed all state run gun ranges. There is nothing in whitlesses EO that directs the closing of gun ranges. The term "club" in the EO is in reference to clubs that serves alcoholic.

This pertains to public DNR ranges, has nothing to do with private ranges.

You might surmise that, but it not so clearly doesn't say just State ranges either.

Mark I was told late last night that MCSC contacted our congress critter. He wouldn't give any legal opinion or guidance. MUCC was contacted and apparently they are the one recommending the closure.

Worse case we could just tail gate it there and not use the clubhouse. Everyone bring their own tailgate or chair and we have a great time as always.

The DNR has no jurisdiction over private ranges. They only closed MI DNR State Ranges. The EO was meant for club houses and specifically mentions yacht clubs and country clubs where people congregate. Whitmer's spokesman said it was NOT meant to ban outside activities like golf. It's EO 2020-09. Our clubhouse is closed, our ranges are open.


An exerpt:


For purposes of this order:


“Place of public accommodation” means a business, or an educational, refreshment, entertainment, or recreation facility, or an institution of any kind, whether licensed or not, whose goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, or accommodations are extended, offered, sold, or otherwise made available to the public. Place of public accommodation also includes the facilities of private clubs, including country clubs, golf clubs, boating or yachting clubs, sports or athletic clubs, and dining clubs.


“Place of public amusement” means a place of public accommodation that offers indoor services or facilities, or outdoor services or facilities involving close contact of persons, for amusement or other recreational or entertainment purposes. A place of public amusement includes an amusement park, arcade, bingo hall, bowling alley, indoor climbing facility, skating rink, trampoline park, and other similar recreational or entertainment facilities.

I read it as the clubhouse would be a place of accommodation and should be closed as clubs are specifically included under the that heading.

On the other hand, club facilities used for amusement or other recreational or entertainment purposes where the activities do not involve close contact, would either be exempt places of amusement, that could stay open, or be outside the scope of the executive order all together.

Temporary restrictions on the use of places of public accommodation





The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is a respiratory disease that can result in serious illness or death. It is caused by a new strain of coronavirus not previously identified in humans and easily spread from person to person. There is currently no approved vaccine or antiviral treatment for this disease.



On March 10, 2020, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services identified the first two presumptive-positive cases of COVID-19 in Michigan. On that same day, I issued Executive Order 2020-4. This order declared a state of emergency across the state of Michigan under section 1 of article 5 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963, the Emergency Management Act, 1976 PA 390, as amended, MCL 30.401-.421, and the Emergency Powers of the Governor Act of 1945, 1945 PA 302, as amended, MCL 10.31-.33.



The Emergency Management Act vests the governor with broad powers and duties to “cop[e] with dangers to this state or the people of this state presented by a disaster or emergency,” which the governor may implement through “executive orders, proclamations, and directives having the force and effect of law.” MCL 30.403(1)-(2). Similarly, the Emergency Powers of the Governor Act of 1945, provides that, after declaring a state of emergency, “the governor may promulgate reasonable orders, rules, and regulations as he or she considers necessary to protect life and property or to bring the emergency situation within the affected area under control.” MCL 10.31(1).



To mitigate the spread of COVID-19, protect the public health, and provide essential protections to vulnerable Michiganders, it is reasonable and necessary to impose limited and temporary restrictions on the use of places of public accommodation.



Acting under the Michigan Constitution of 1963 and Michigan law, I order the following:


Beginning as soon as possible but no later than March 16, 2020 at 3:00 pm, and continuing until March 30, 2020 at 11:59 pm, the following places of public accommodation are closed to ingress, egress, use, and occupancy by members of the public:


Restaurants, food courts, cafes, coffeehouses, and other places of public accommodation offering food or beverage for on-premises consumption;


Bars, taverns, brew pubs, breweries, microbreweries, distilleries, wineries, tasting rooms, special licensees, clubs, and other places of public accommodation offering alcoholic beverages for on-premises consumption;


Hookah bars, cigar bars, and vaping lounges offering their products for on-premises consumption;


Theaters, cinemas, and indoor and outdoor performance venues;


Libraries and museums;


Gymnasiums, fitness centers, recreation centers, indoor sports facilities, indoor exercise facilities, exercise studios, and spas;


Casinos licensed by the Michigan Gaming Control Board, racetracks licensed by the Michigan Gaming Control Board, and Millionaire Parties licensed by the Michigan Gaming Control Board; and


Places of public amusement not otherwise listed above.


Places of public accommodation subject to this section are encouraged to offer food and beverage using delivery service, window service, walk-up service, drive-through service, or drive-up service, and to use precautions in doing so to mitigate the potential transmission of COVID-19, including social distancing. In offering food or beverage, a place of public accommodation subject to this section may permit up to five members of the public at one time in the place of public accommodation for the purpose of picking up their food or beverage orders, so long as those individuals are at least six feet apart from one another while on premises.



This section does not prohibit an employee, contractor, vendor, or supplier of a place of public accommodation from entering, exiting, using, or occupying that place of public accommodation in their professional capacity.



The restrictions imposed by this order do not apply to any of the following:


Places of public accommodation that offer food and beverage not for on-premises consumption, including grocery stores, markets, convenience stores, pharmacies, drug stores, and food pantries, other than those portions of the place of public accommodation subject to the requirements of section 1;


Health care facilities, residential care facilities, congregate care facilities, and juvenile justice facilities;


Crisis shelters or similar institutions; and

Food courts inside the secured zones of airports.


For purposes of this order:

Consistent with MCL 10.33 and MCL 30.405(3), a willful violation of this order is a misdemeanor.

Where was everyone today? It was kinda lonely out there by myself. Sort of extreme social distancing. I had a blast until that deputy muttered something about trespassing. I didn't see any sign on the part of the fence I jumped. The door to the clubhouse was stuck too. I really had to put my shoulder into it. 4 times. Maybe plane it a bit when you fix the casing?

Prosecutor in Kent County said there's nothing he could do about a local PRIVATE country club allowing their members to golf. They have their own access and their own golf carts with no employees needing to be present. Our gun club took that to mean we could open our Sporting Clays course to members only - they have key cards for throwers. Clubhouse remains closed as does rifle and indoor pistol ranges because there are no RSOs on duty.

Side story, a couple of years ago I built a 7-08 for the wife of a friend of mine. I had some 7-08 ammo I loaded for my 700 Mountain Rifle that was probably twenty years old. It shot lights out in her rifle like it did in mine. My friend wanted to duplicate the load, I had a couple of cans of IMR-4831 that were as old as the 4064 and stored in the same tote. The 4831 shot as good as the original loads. You're welcome to the 4064 to see if it's any good.
