SCOTUS just handed down a ruling that confirms the law that says that if you're an immigrant that is a "public charge" (on welfare) you can't have a green card.

The Trump administration's move to enforce that law had been blocked by district judges who issued injunctions far beyond their granted authority, making the injunction nationwide.

Justice Gorsuch has apparently had enough of that nonsense, at really ripped into the judges that did that. He pointed out that the courts are places where parties settle their differences, and that nationwide injunctions issued by individual district judges extend to parties who are strangers to the case.

Justice Thomas expressed similar sentiments earlier.

Every other country on the planet has a requirement for immigrants to prove that they can support themselves without public assistance before being granted entry to their country, but for the U.S. to require the same is supposed to be objectionable?

I was surprised to meet a couple people in Peru that were living off checks like SSI and received them every month from our government. Seems they came here legally with help from family and once they were able to qualify for the checks they moved back. Lived pretty good in Lima on them.

All the ruling did is limit the national scope of the issue. Regional courts can still knock down the Government's case. It just can no longer be a decision that applies everywhere.

When my wife got her green card I had to provide my last three years of income tax forms to prove my income was sufficient to provide for her. Also I had to sign a form saying that I would be financially responsible for her. She was also banned for welfare and Medicaid for three years. It is about time they enforce this.

I have visa's for several different countries. This is a standard requirement. Some countries require you to post a medical cost bond if you can't prove insurance coverage.
