Thinking about shaving my head to save myself $15/month for a 5 minute haircut. I don't want the chromedome bald head look, just a real tight buzz.

What tool are you all using? Would it be wise to get one I could use in the shower? I'm thinking it would be nice to do the face and head both in the shower thus minimizing any clean up.

I normally use Wahl. I clip on the back porch and just use the blower to clean the porch off after a trim.

I haven't paid for a haircut in the past 20 years. I normally spend about $25 on a new pair of clippers every other year. When the blades start getting dull it goes in the trash and buy a new one.

I haven't thought about clipping in the shower, That might be nice, but I think the clippers would cost more and not last as long.

I just use a regular set of Wahl hair clippers and mow it down...

I use a Remington rechargeable. It has withstood years of use, and gives a clean shave

I use the clippers to mow it down. For a clean shave, I run a razor over it in the shower then wax and buff it out. Rain beads right off and I get better mileage on my Harley!

I’ve been cutting my own hair every two weeks since 1984. I have no idea how many thousands I’ve saved, but I’ve also enjoyed the convenience of cutting it any time that’s convenient, and jumping in the shower immediately afterwards. I’ve always used Wahl brand, and get an easy ten years of service from a set. For $30 that’s damn near free.

The two things that can cut the life shorter is bumping the teeth into something like the sink faucet (did that once) or much more commonly, the cord will flex where it enters the body of the clippers and eventually give sporadic power. Very annoying. On older models I used to cut an inch off the cord and reset it for another two or three years. My latest pair I’ve had for around ten and that problem is just starting to occur. The chord is reinforced in the stressed area which has prolonged its service life, but might also make the repair a little more challenging.

Go for it. A basic buzz cut will be a walk in the park. I’ve got some sort of deep seated hair “issue” that stems from the terrible early ‘70s hack jobs my dad gave me, so learning to give myself professional grade cuts has been a lifelong skill to develop. Especially the dual mirrors and learning to think bass ackwards. But I’ll keep cutting my own hair until I’m too old and crippled to reach my arms above my head.
