Congressional investigations are basically fact finding preliminary inquiries. They have no legal power to do anything but ask question and subpoena people to appear before them to answer their questions, or not, these subpoenaed witnesses can just tell congress to pound sand and nothing will be done to them.

If congress does find evidence of criminal wrongdoing, what do they do with this evidence?

That's right, they hand it off to the DOJ/FBI and ask them to take their ball and run with it.

NOTHING ever comes from congressional investigations, nothing. Nunez and company have sent over a dozen Criminal Referrals to the DOJ/FBI and not a single one have ever been followed up on.

Whatever he says, it needs to be a play for the soft middle---that 20% of undecided voters whose votes he will need to be re-elected.

Rock, this is a perfect season for more investigations. What better use of Republican time in both the Senate and the House? There will be exactly ZERO legislation to be allowed to pass by Pelosi, and the Senate has only to confirm more judges, so might as well fill the time with investigations. Like they say, the old blind sow finds an acorn now and then.
