Wabigoon, I hear angus bulls make fair hamburger, ship to southern calif and make a fortune. we just put a 2 year old in the freezer, my cousin sent pictures of empty shelves in Los Angeles. he wants a steer cut and delivered. told him pickup only! not worried about the kung fu flu as much as I am the people down there,
LJ, don't let Jim know where those bunny rabbits are hiding. That's a Hi-Line happy meal right there!
Richard, good luck with the bulls, hopefully they have an even temperament.
Thankfully about a year ago I bought new front tires for the bale processor tractor, found a soft spot last Thursday and sunk down about 2 feet.
The ol' yuppie tractor was grunting!
Sweet pics Kenny!
It was semi blizzard here this morning and a couple hundred geese were hunkered down where we've been feeding. Drove within 50 yards and they didn't bother taking off.
I've been quietly bringing the bunny back around me Sam. Funny how the guys here that cry cause there arent any to hunt are the same guys that give me grief about leaving brush piles after clearing fence rows. Someday I might get another Bassett to run.
We keep steers in it and store some hay in the one end. Stack the top two at once with a special set of pallet forks.
He's been busy at work lately since the weather's been better. Changed a wheel bearing and mounted a set of tires on the skid steer, and a truck tire on the mixer.
Thanks wabi, here is a few of my grandfather (mother's side) at his homestead, with a buck, and on his new tractor with my grandmother and a neighbor kid. Homesteaded in 1910

LJ, you might like our mess. We have a pretty big brush pile with a few rabbits around and it isn't gonna get burnt any time soon if ever.
Turn the sound off, wind noise is horrible. More less trying to show my vet the herds body condition after grazing most of the winter. I think this was March 1 or 2. Most of these were purchased last year and had a rough summer after the diet change.

Oh ya, great pics! That farmall is a dandy!! Thanks for posting those.

Just WOW! Love these!!!!
I wonder how far he had to go to collect the trees for that cabin. And, get the fire wood to heat it! Great pictures all.
Just about my bedtime, don't let me slow down the fun. we need to do this more often. Good time, good fun. See you good folks in the morning, the Good Lord willin', an' if the creek don't rise.
This the St. Olaf church south of Red Lodge, about where Volney Creek and Red Lodge Creek join up . It is still in use one Sunday a month and for special occasions. I think I have seen the Melville church. Is it near the Lennop church? Them old Norwegian churches are usually pretty similar.
Man!, you men still going with an all night party! I'm too old to keep up with you youngsters. "Lefty, he can't sing the blues all night long like he used to".

Grampa had to go to the breaks on the Stillwater River to cut the pine trees. It was around 2-3 miles.
Richard, first calf of the year today, about 11 days early so right on time....
We found the new pair when we went to look for the strays. Two big coyotes in the area so I grabbed baby and hauled him to a better spot where the coyotes probably won't go. Had a great shot at one but missed. Have a strong feeling my rifle needs to be re-zero'd.
Kenny, time was a cow needed horns to protect her calf. I don't want to be anywhere near a horned cow. I had one of our polled blacks take me back in 88, I still recall the time I spent on her back, her idea, not mine.
Years ago we had a bad, bad cold front in central Texas. Several ranchers reported cattle drowned because they laid down on the frozen stock ponds and fell through.
It is beyond ridiculous trying to get around right now. Either ice, boggy wet spots or frozen ground. Tractor or ATV is about it if you want to be safe.
I shut a few gates and need to take the chainsaw on the 4 wheeler and fix some fence tomorrow. Get the cows contained a little. It's shaping up to be a real mess.
We have a tiny 10 acre 'pasture' close to home where we calve out a semi load of 3 year olds and a 1/3 of it is covered with a couple inches of ice.
Ice, and mud and water everywhere on the river bottom.
Barry, I had to walk across and show the dummies that it was 'safe'....
I'm just in from watching gates. One steer crawled out the fenceline bunk, not so bad, the heifers, anther story, one bolted past me while I was holding the gate open, from then on it was a real rodeo. ten or so, back and fourth, at last we did get them all back in. Two thoughts, I wish I felt that good, and as muddy as it is, can't say as blame them foe wanting to get out.

Got water over the top of my Muck boots!
Man...we are froze up HARD. 10 inches of snow blowed into soft drifts.
We buy most of our bulls from Kenny Angus, Schaller, Iowa. Kenny's start calving in December, they must be down to just a few now. They use all that is needed for that way. A lot of sheds, heat, tons of bedding, a lot of time. I'm happy to let them do it that way.
Richard, I am jealous of the guys that have super buildings.
We just don't have room where we calve the heifers. Little bit of high ground next to the highway(at the home place) and we stack hay there but the bottom side is all suspect to getting a little water now and then.
Snow white. lol So what's the deal Sam, is it ice jams in the river backing up the water? Sorry to hear about the Muck boot full maybe you should look in to some fishing waders the way things are going.

Dan, we have a creek above us and the Missouri is the southern border. Couple highway and a rail road in between....
The creek floods and the river does tend to jam up and will back up into back waters than run for miles and are generally dry 90% of the time.
I locked the cows out of the hayfields today. It's warmer than usual and didn't want them munching on anything green. My brother spread a bunch of manure, didn't make any ruts in the field but the road looks pretty rough.

And now it has kinda thawed back out. Richard, preach it brother!
Sam- It was -1F here in the Queen City this AM with several inches of new snow. But even with your crazy wx on the Hi-Line, I'm thinking you're not ready to move back to the Bozone, even if you could afford it... Hang in there - spring will get here by 1 June and then the forest/range fires will start a couple of weeks later!
The weather is cool here, that is good, when it gets too warm too early, the apple trees bud out, and get froze. The alfalfa can get winter kill, or need cutting before it's time. It's mid March, not spring yet.

I haven't been there since we moved 10 years ago.
Fun town but yeah, overpriced and getting really crowded.
Sam? You asked me to Preach?! Well, since you did ask. You, and many other good souls have time to learn God's love, just don't wait too long. Enough sermonizing for tonight.
This has been a great thread, many good folks helping out.
Well guys, This is 'tomorrow' in Arkansas. It is like Sunday, Saturday & Friday.......
R A I N, R A I N, R A I N and every day this week! YUK I dumped out 2" of rain yesterday and now there is .75" in the gage from last night.
This pic is from 2- 12 - 20 AND if I took another today it would look EXACTLY the same!
The water is OVERflowing and running SW to a drainage W and you can almost waterski !! Our forecast is RAIN everyday this week until ? Friday ? long range forecast ? ? ?
SO I can't take anything outside for a pic in natural light. It can wait.
SORRY.
As soon as it's DRY enuff I'm going to start getting my horse back in shape. He's a retired rodeo roping horse. I'm NOT a roper but I use his rope experience to pull/drag some things out of the way. He's a GOOD un.
ps: I and others are enjoying YOUR pix and videos. Keep it up.
Much like Jwall it is monsoon season here in Missouri, but I'm still pretty sure I could have found a drier place for her to have that calf if she had ask. On the up side I'm 1/3 of the way done in 9 days. Good start.
