Day after day, season after season Ryan brought the heat better than anyone else, IMO.

5714 strikeouts
Posted By: Quak Re: The fastest pitcher? - 03/28/20
Fastest was Joel Zumia (so?) for the tigers. Dude could throw the heat! Man that was a good team
Posted By: jaguartx Re: The fastest pitcher? - 03/28/20
At least 7 no hitters.

I'd like to see his likes again, 700.

Sid Finch

He played on some bad offensive teams to. Went 8-16 one year with the Astro’s one year while leading the league in ERA

I just hope the Chiefs can keep their SB team together so they're not a 1-2 year wonder like the Royals.

The long ballers.
"He crushed it".
"It hit the porch of the third house past the stadium."

Ryan could throw down too, just ask Robin Ventura!

Probably this guy, or it was. But now he is coming back from Tommy Johns surgery so we’ll have to see if he still has it.

I used to love it when on some nights the mics were picking Ryan's his grunts...those seem to add a couple of mph's. Have always been an A's and Giants fan, but if The Ryan Express was on the hill, I watched the whole game. I love the pitchers who can mow the grass.

Let's not forget, he had a WICKED breaking ball to go with that heat!

Well that was with a running start.

A bunch of juicing going on...

It's too bad, too. They could do amazing things even without the High octane blood.

Randy Johnson - that dove never stood a chance!

I'll put in a pug for "The Heater From Vanmeter", rapid Robert Feller. Stories abound.

I lived in Fort Worth a long time and was a big Rangers fan for a long time. I was watching that game with the White Sox. I got to see Nolan Ryan pitch live twice. You could hear him grunting in the stands. Both games I went to, on the first hit he gave up, you could hear the whole stadium sigh Aww...

Yeah, but he has hit 105 from the mound in a game officially and 107 unofficially.

Took my son to see Ryan play several times at the old Arlington Stadium.

Nolan also had 12, 1 hitters.........and wasn't afraid to throw inside on hitters who thought they owned the inside part of the plate. Somebody above made mention of his awesome breaking ball, and it's true. He also had a wicked change up. Our roving catching instructor was a guy named Tim Blackwell, who caught in the big leagues for years. He told us when Nolan had either his breaking ball working, or change up, along with that 100+ mph fastball it was next to impossible to try and hit the guy. When he had them all working......forget it, leave your bat in the dugout.

Randy Johnson was Dale Earnhardt.

Who was the almost blind pitcher that scared every body as he was fast and had a hard time seeing the catcher's mitt?

Ryan Duran was a 100mph pitcher with corrected 20-70 and 20-200 vision in his 2 eyes. Drinking and partying finally got to him.

Ryne Duren - he used to throw his first warm-up pitch over the catcher's head to the screen to make sure that the batters remembered him.

Nolan Ryan , best ever imo . I do like Justin Verlander as well , 9th inning and still throwing heat over 100mph wow!
And there is Joel Zumaya also from Detroit . Lets not forget Randy Johnson .

Heres a good read on the topic...

I remember my Dad saying Ryan Duran would throw a pitch against the backstop during warm-ups just to scare the other team's batters.

Just to clarify - not my son.
