I used to love it when on some nights the mics were picking Ryan's his grunts...those seem to add a couple of mph's. Have always been an A's and Giants fan, but if The Ryan Express was on the hill, I watched the whole game. I love the pitchers who can mow the grass.
Let's not forget, he had a WICKED breaking ball to go with that heat!
I lived in Fort Worth a long time and was a big Rangers fan for a long time. I was watching that game with the White Sox. I got to see Nolan Ryan pitch live twice. You could hear him grunting in the stands. Both games I went to, on the first hit he gave up, you could hear the whole stadium sigh Aww...
Nolan also had 12, 1 hitters.........and wasn't afraid to throw inside on hitters who thought they owned the inside part of the plate. Somebody above made mention of his awesome breaking ball, and it's true. He also had a wicked change up. Our roving catching instructor was a guy named Tim Blackwell, who caught in the big leagues for years. He told us when Nolan had either his breaking ball working, or change up, along with that 100+ mph fastball it was next to impossible to try and hit the guy. When he had them all working......forget it, leave your bat in the dugout.
Nolan Ryan , best ever imo . I do like Justin Verlander as well , 9th inning and still throwing heat over 100mph wow! And there is Joel Zumaya also from Detroit . Lets not forget Randy Johnson .
