The lake south of town here where me and the boy chase catfish all the time has a little farm community under it. I knew some folks who lived there before they were forced to sell so the lake could be built. I don’t think there’s any ill will towards the lake nowadays, I’m lead to believe that they were paid more than the going rate at the time for their land.
Do a little research on the Tennessee Valley Authority sometime. Every time the TVA built a dam anywhere in Tennessee, Alabama, or Kentucky, dozens of little towns were inundated. Quite often the residents who didn't want to leave their ancestral homes were forced out at gunpoint by federal officers, and the compensation for their land that was taken was not always fair.

Like building the Blue Ridge Parkway.

They didn’t think the farmers could handle money. So didn’t pay them off all at once.
