Once we get a cure, it will return to business as usual. Until the cure happens travel and anything involving groups will be non existent.

I hope selling out the US manufacturing infrastructure. Bring back made in the USA drugs. So I hope dependence on foreign drug manufacture.
I also hope the faith in socialist medicine dies.

If people are thinking it's safe to go into a packed church with folks belting out hymns,

why would they not consider going to a stadium event?

Do they think Jesus will save them from the Corona if it's still hanging around?

Did that work for the singers in WA?

I'm guessing when the all clear horn blows, folks are going to go back to business as usual but perhaps hand sanitizers and Clorox wipes will continue to be big sellers.

Along with "Johnnie, don't touch that doorknob, use a towel for Pete's sake. Do you want the Corona to get you? Could be an old person touched that last. Maybe an old black person from Chicago even"

Dang people these days, their memory isn't even long enough to vote Trump for doing the best he can...

They won't remember anything a week later, all rubby dubby again...
It depends. If we have a vaccine or if we have a cheap, reliable, and readily available test and over the counter medications, then the picture is different than if we have neither.

Without an effective prevention or very readily available cure, I think we load arena / stadium sports and music events, monster truck shows, county fairs. Can you picture 4th of July without a parade, food booths, folks gathering for fireworks? I think mass transportation fails .. I sure wouldn't ride a train or take a bus under the circumstances unless I had zero choice. The airline industry takes a big hit ... to be profitable, they have to PACK us sardines into the can as tightly as possible. Can't maintain 6 feet of separation there. Other things ... fishing guides ... how do you put people in a boat yet maintain separation? What about the drive to hunting camp .. can't really car-pool nor share a cabin w/ people who aren't immediate family while still maintaining separation. What about ceremonies ... weddings? The couple, 2 witnesses, and a judge .. and everyone else gets a photo? And how does that affect those people who side-line making cakes, renting dresses and tuxes. Taxis? Limo services?

If we have to continue as things are, the cost of groceries, etc has to go way up to pay the wages of the additional people keeping the stores clean while distributing that cost over a smaller number of customers.

On the other hand, if we get a vaccine or reliable, quick treatment, things could go back to pretty normal pretty quickly. I think the longer this lasts, the more chance of longer lasting changes as well as we get more used to doing things differently.

I hope professional sports takes a serious nose dive.

For far to long, athletes acted like we needed them, and not the other way around.

Let’s see how well the team owners pay the athletes with empty stadiums.
I sincerely hope casinos are top of the list. Give all of those maids and croupiers jobs in manufacturing.

Let Las Vegas dry up and blow away in the wind with the tumble weeds.

Let people put their money some place it can grow, rather than just line mobsters' pockets.

Damn, I forgot about casinos. That should have tied with professional sports.

Probably the last nail in brick and mortar retail.

The reports of the death of retail have been greatly exaggerated.

Apps make it even simpler.

Curbside service.

It’ll really take off, if online retailers will keep the free shipping.

Not the fun parts.... wink

I’m more thinking all these students (and paying parents) are discovering that they can get their education much easier, quicker and cheaper on line. If you really think about it, the amount of resources wasted during a typical 5 year college education is mind boggling. Housing, travel, keggers, low paying second jobs in university towns..... it’s a model of inefficiency.

Casinos are legalized stealing from poor and stupid people. They have increased all kinds of misery such as crime, bankruptcy, suicide, divorce, child abuse. My wife and I have walked through the gaming areas when lodged at casinos on USDA trips. The clientele is pitiful. There were obviously poor people there, there were wheel chair bound folks with oxygen. I personally know people who have lost homes and property at cainos. One man I know sold his retirement to gamble. There is nothing to be gained for society except money for gaming corporations and their stockholders. I believe the state is a huge loser in the deal even though they gain revenue in the short term. These businesses and payday loan outfits ought to be banished. They are a blight and a parasite on society. I hope they don't come back but I bet they come back long before concerts and church.

College football and other collegiate sports as we know it.
42% of college athletic departments said they have funds for beyond this year.
Football & Basketball are the financial drivers[TV revenue 1st, ticket holders 2nd]
D1 coaches make anywhere from $1m up to $10M annually[rough est], then add all of the assistants and other staff.
Then you have the scholarship guarantees/commitments.
Start adding it all up.
Many athletic departments will cease to exist.

Something like 41% of all on-line commerce goes through Amazon right now - that means everything. Pay your bills on-line? It's counted. That's how much Amazon has already. A massive virus would impact your life already to a massive degree.

That said - the reason people don't shop retail or have moved to BOPIS is due to the retail experience, not even price or convenience. I HATE dealing with other people in the store. I HATE the entire checkout process. It's all a PITA. I shop on-line because I RARELY need something immediately and the experience is much better.

E-commerce is already pervasive and it will continue to grow. Covid-19 won't kill brick and mortar but B&M were going away as it was. I know - gun stores and the like will never be 100% on-line but the free loving American in me says they should be lol.
Dang, I'm just the opposite. I enjoy doing business with local folks. I do have to purchase a lot of American made goods online, though. You are right, this mess will certainly help drive online sales.

This China flu is a big hoax and is nothing more than a different strain of the common flu. I guess being on the old side I've lost a lot of friends through the years to pneumonia. I'm hoping and banking on Internet Sales for fresh seafood and beef to flourish after this BS.

Not locally - the ones that served food basically have turned their bartenders into UberEats drivers to stay open and provide a check. The other ones are selling gift certs to get revenue in and I suspect many will be bought but not cashed in.

Some bars here are doing a "order a margarita - keep the glass" type of thing with delivery.

Stupid people that don't admit to themselves how stupid their financial behavior is cannot be cured but we could at least not make it convenient. And it seems to me a state sponsored crime to license gambling houses and usury to make money for the state. The cripples that go to casinos wouldn't go throw dice in a back alley. Pay day lenders are a particular low form of humanity that shouldn't be tolerated.

Casinos = Tax revenue.

Follow the money, they’re here to stay. The only thing that slows them is when they overpopulate an area.

Some folks, sadly, have no other entertainment available beyond a TV set.

The fallouts that you’ve mentioned are very real ones in the state of Louisiana.
Casinos equal a lot of jobs too. But they are as necessary as professional sports and Hollywood.

I could live with Monday night football, playoffs and a Super Bowl. Daytona, Bristol, and Talladega. The Masters, British Open, and US Open. The rest is revenue fluff.
Small business will not come back, why would people risk starting a small business in the future if they can be taken out by a political hoax?

Nope. Did not say a word about forcing the casinos to stay closed.

But I can sure hope that people smarten up on their own.

It takes a special kind of stupid to lay money on a table when you know the house takes 30% to 50% of every dollar.
Casinos, to each his own.

If you blow money at the casino. Or goto a baseball game. Shooting range. On and on. That’s what you like.

I don’t care for them one way or the other.

Now the scratch off lotto. Fug me. MS started that a few months back. Every time i go to the gas station someone wants to buy Fugging $20 worth of $1 tickets. Of about 5 different variations.

Lemme get my beef jerky and Diet Coke and get the fug out.

I grew up during the height of the AIDS epidemic and didn’t marry a flesh light.
Viagra won't be coming back. The stress alone from Financial Armageddon will keep all willies hanging, and not even a pill will be able to make him rise up.
You are obviously talking about yourself here. Because I have not heard of anyone else with such issues.
I see the potential for a lot of things to change. Gatherings with large groups of people like movie theaters, sports events, dine in restaurants, casinos, bars, retail stores, churches, etc. could possibly go away. People will avoid direct contact by not shaking hands or hugging each other. Online shopping and drive thru restaurants could become more the norm. This could provide the stimulus for a cashless society and lots of people will be receptive to using only plastic. Drive-in theaters might make a comeback. Call ahead and come pick up your grocery order or merchandise without going in the store.

On the other hand people have short memories and are social animals so this might all be forgotten before the year is over. Some people will even vote Democrat in the next election.

That entire generation that you speak of has the memory span of a slug. Lots of things now and in the future will be done off the books and “cards only “ ain’t a part of those transactions.

Cash will be with us long after you and I are gone unless the mark of the beast is enacted.
