Since insurance companies are giving automotive policy owners refunds due to less claims from lack of driving, why shouldn't taxpayers be refunded part of the 40% school tax paid from our property tax bill?

Pipe dream I know.........

40%! lol

Its about 65% here.

Teachers technically working from home here. If they close early, like many are doing, itd be an interesting fight to have them kick back the remaining "unused" salary to taxpayers and tell the teachers to go on unempl/covid assistance.

Local, county, and state parks closed, and best of luck finding a cop on the highway. I wonder if those tax savings will be kicked back at the local level too?

(I dont really wonder!)

If anything I predict ours to go up,Bigly
Everyone is still getting paid ,breakfast and lunch delivered, and some half -assed attemp at on line courses.
# 2 son attends the University of Miami, some of his now on-line courses cost $70.00 to get the feed to take classes he can't attend.

I’ve wondered exactly the same thing here in Mi.

A lot of dumbass union members with nothing better to do than spew TDS on social media and I get the pleasure of paying for it.

But what else is new...

I thought I remembered 40%, however just looked, it's 46.5%.

Certainly better than 65%....but still.....

Teachers are still working here. Kids have assignments, etc. Was a delay before they got things rolling but it's going now. I'm not sure how it works for those without 'net access but I'm guessing that's a limited number of kids.

My wife is a speech pathologist in a local school system and she's doing therapy via online meetings. VERY busy and a lot of overhead/extra work to get things set up for that.

'Au contraire'.

1) Wisconsin teachers are conducting virtual learning classes from the brick and mortar schools.

2) Teacher Union contracts

3) School referendums approved must be spent.

What are you smoking in that pipe? shocked laugh

They need the money so as to provide 3 meals a day to all the Kiddies.
At least they do in Florida.

School buildings still have utility bills to pay, custodial staff to clean and sanitize, grass to cut etc.. Teachers as mentioned above are still teaching on-line, the education process continues even if it is on-line.

All we need is an iPad and two hours a day?

That's going on here too.

Simply a bypass to welfare. Or an addition to.

Lotsa wetbacks in the free meal lines.

Your tax dollars either pay for the internet access.

The kid gets a data driven device (you pay for that too)

Or (this is the best one) the kid doesn't do anything and still moves on to the next grade level.

They advertise it but the reality is that nobody is going down to those schools and picking up a GD thing.

The schools get paid by the feds for serving lunch/breakfast. The schools just have to say how many meals they served.

School is out here for remainder of this term. The school gave every kid a device to take home, local internet provider is not charging for the hookups. All the parents need to do is pay $5.00 for the module for their house they complained so much the school is even paying for that! About 1/4 of the kids for one reason or another still have no access to internet so the school told them to watch PBS cartoons for 1hour a day then get quizzed on that at end of week...unfuking real.
All spring sports are canceled too so why are coahes still getting paid? My school taxes are $7500+ a year what a rip. Buildings arw closed with one janitor in each building 4 hours a day.
Every kid gets a free pass as none will be held back if they do not do the online lesson.

The schools around here, although closed to students, are still in operation. Just remotely, for the most part. Office staff is still coming in, and cafateria staff is still making breakfast and lunch for the parents to pick up in bag form. Also, teachers are still assigning work for the kids via the school website, correcting the work for grades, and getting pay checks.
Posted By: KC Re: School Tax Refunds - 04/10/20

The teachers unions would probably want an increase in salaries for hazardous duty pay to work from home.

Same with my wife here in southern Utah. She was assigned this year to teach at three schools, and is now working from home 12-16 hours a day dealing with over 300 students, online IT issues, and administrators coming up with non-essential bs activities and requirements to justify sitting in an office by themselves all day.

Those world class campuses are a welfare for good old boy Austin connected construction companies. Some of these places are higher end than some State Capitals. Taj Mahal schools are crazy stupid.

Top heavy dead weight is the true education problem. Build empires spend more and more on education while keeping the teacher's wages low. Disgusting overall.

After the Gov. announced yesterday that Alaska schools would remain closed for the remainder of the year, I asked my wife, "Do you think we can get a nice tax cut on property taxes since the schools are closed". I get that teachers are working form home, etc, and so are the kids. My youngest is a 10th grader, and he will have missed about 40% of new learning he would have gotten had school remained open. He has his classes online now, but it's reviews only, nothing new being taught, and only 1 assignment a week per class for most of them. That kid had daily homework assignments in math, as well as 3 each week in science and English. One of his classes now, the work is optional.

Now my son in college, his 2 classes that were in classroom went to online, and he said his homework has increased quite a bit from when it was classroom learning. That I have no problem with,

Up in the county my hunting camp is in there is a small high school approx. 100 students from 9-12 with 3 small elementary schools approx. 60 kids in each no school sponsored sports other than 1 baseball team at high school for a boys team and girls softball team. Naturally it is closed now an students are doing the online thing. My question is why am I paying $3500 a year in school tax on a 24x32 building, property tax I feel is fair enough but think I am getting raped to pay that much in school tax.
The population in the district goes DOWN every year, those of us whom own camps in the area seem to be paying the bulk of the bills for the schools. Not fair in normal times very unfair now with the year cut short.

I'm sure our school tax in Oklahoma is going toward a massive waste of food. The schools are feeding anyone who comes in, no ID required, with bag lunches. The little illegal mexican urchins have been observed coming in and getting a sack lunch, then taking out the bag of chips and tossing the rest into the garbage. The school does this to get more federal funding, which is tied to the total number of lunches given away. Total waste. Total mismanagement, and typical of the waste of tax money on public schools.
Posted By: WyColoCowboy Re: School Tax Refunds - 04/10/20
Well, since my wife the school teacher is working more hours than ever converting her entire curriculum to work in a virtual classroom, plus still teaching classes, I'd say she's earning her paycheck.
Posted By: antelope_sniper Re: School Tax Refunds - 04/10/20
What school expenses are reduced?

Teachers are still going to get paid. School bonds still have to be paid. New infrastructure to support online learning needs to be installed. Computers purchased etc.

Beside we're dealing with the government. If anything your taxes will go up.

My mother was until she retired, my daughter is, my daughter in-law is, my granddaughters (2) are, and a nephew is they are all teachers. they all went into to have a job with 10 1/2 weeks of summer off every year and a benefit package unheard of in today's world an let us not speak of tenure. You know what they are all lazy whom are now bitching they must actually put forth an effort to keep getting a fat check. None of them earns under $65 K most are pushing $100 K in annual salary .
I spoke with my one daughter yesterday she teaches 8th grade English all she did wad bitch and moan cause her class time of 1 hour a day cuts into her getting the boat on the lake for water skiing prior to the lake getting busy! Give me [bleep] break!

People here have noticed that I am posting more. I am teaching via remote learning. We have a lot more teacher's meetings with admin. Generally, these are "go team" talks because they know what kind of C. F. this remote learning is. However, teaching is more difficult because we, on our district, have to create assignments, deliver online instruction and yet none of the stuff we are making actually counts towards a student's grades.

We have a lot of students that are not doing anything but going to Pornhub. The dumpster fire, chuckleheads are on everyday because their parents are going completely postal. They went to Pornhub already. I have had several parents come on to the meetings to ask me how I get their kids to do what I ask because they won't do anything for them.

The bright-eyed, movers and shakers are doing more work. They ask for extra assignments constantly. So I am always making curriculum. We are also asked to call all of our students who aren't doing any work. Those who don't answer are recorded in the student log shell. This sadly can be used by Social Services. I don't think parents understand that when they allow their kids not to do any work that those students are being recorded and this material is a legal evidence of parental neglect.

Sincerely,
Thomas

deflave. You ever have to run a group of 35 rebellious teenagers-keeping them on task, all day, every day or you get fired. In my 25 years of teaching, I have stabbed, punched, shot at, cursed at and put in this strange bizarro world and I have felt I have made a difference. I have to remember the right pronoun for their "gender" for the day or I get sued and in administrative trouble. I have to deal with Hayden who wants to be a girl and yet calls other boys in the class [bleep]. Hayden has four fathers that are all attorneys seeking to find a money train on how we missed treated her/him. I also have to deal with kids that have mental illness and yet their parents want to deny it. I have snowflakes and rainbows and other varieties on a theme. I can vouch that I probably do more work in a day in my upper middle class public school than 99% of the people on here. Imagine being a gun loving patriot who is completely surrounded by commie TDS idealists who want to create a new America. Now imagine if I charged like a babysitter I would be making 320K per year.

i can tell you that it is easier teaching in a tough school than in a rich one. The tough school is where you can make the students do work and earn respect and find values. In the rich school, you have to play political games or its your ass.

No chance of any refunds in KY. Our last governor (R) was the best governor I can remember in my 62 years. Should have been a shoo-in for re-election. Unfortunately, he got cross ways with the KEA teachers union. The KEA and State Workers unions whacked him at the polls.... No way any elected official in KY will initiate anything that might upset the KEA...
Posted By: JustLucky Re: School Tax Refunds - 04/10/20
I liked the last KY governor until he started changing the teacher’s and government worker’s retirement benefits even with those benefits being in their contacts. That would have been a large hurt to them and wouldn’t have been legal. No recovery for those reaching retirement, like my wife. She has spent her whole career teaching. She has received national awards because of how her students’ tests scores increased. Everywhere we go her former students come to hug her and tell her how she helped them or how she had changed their lives. She has also had to be politically correct, was stabbed, was dropped to the bathroom floor last year while trying to stop 2 girls fighting, and even got to see herself fall when it was posted on Facebook.

She is now having meetings with central office, with her school admin, with her teachers group, her students. The teachers discuss each student and call their parents if work is not being done. And keeping a log. I don’t think the students will be held back for any reason.

I know this only because I have observed this. I am glad she is retiring.

When school was in she got to school about 6:15am and didn’t leave until 5-6pm. Also she got 20 minutes for lunch. She worked about a week after the students got out for summer and had several Personal development days required during the summer. Then they started back to school about a week before the students returned from summer break. Not as glamorous as I thought.

I think there are ways schools can save money, but it should not be from teacher’s salaries. Also I think their contracts should be honored.

Are they going to return any money? Not a chance!

I am going to put my input in for public schools considering I have worked at one for 33 years. 99% of you guys don’t have a damn clue at what you think y’all know about a public school. Our school has around 2400 students k thru 12 . Most every teacher that works there deserves every penny they make. With that being said our teacher pay scale starts out at $32000 in our area if anyone is over paid iin our district it is coaches. Maintenance and custodians barely make over minimum wage and I don’t know about anywhere else in the country but we get our ass worked off. I would like to know how any of you idiots that don’t work for a public school can say what goes on or anything else about a school environment considering most of you work behind a desk or a assembly line or better yet not at all. I would bet anyone any amount of money that any of you bit#hing would not go to college for 4 or more years and teach for what teachers get paid and wouldn’t last the 1st six months at that.
Yes I work maintenance and yes we are still working. We are getting things done that we normally try to squeeze in the whole 6 weeks of summer. Our custodians are getting a chance to actually strip and wax floors and clean carpet the way they should be along with many other things.
If any of you know how a school budget works let me know because my funding has been cut for 6 years straight to be able to keep afloat not due to overspending but because money is lost every year whether it’s federal, state, local or any other means. That would include $7000 for every student we lose because of them moving with their families for jobs that are not growing in our area. We have lost close to 100 kids this year alone so that a $700,000 loss.
Now in the State of Arkansas the governor give teachers a $4000 pay raise guess what no money is being given to take care of the raises so we have to cut even more to make this up. Another thing to add to it Arkansas voted for a $11.00 minimum wage and by January of 2021 any employee that is not making that amount will have to be increased. Again no extra money budget cuts and loss of jobs to survive. I have people that have been working for 12 years that barely make $11.00 an hour and any new person coming in will start at $11.00. How would that make feel as an employee that has years in and newbie starts at the same job same pay!
Our teachers are working from home as much or more than a regular school day so yes they are earning a paycheck.
If anyone has a question feel free to ask and I will try and answer!
