I worked with a New Orleans resident. I can't tell you how many times I wheeled him through airports. We would go on a business trip, eat on the company dime and he would come back with a gout attack. The problem with Louisiana is the diet of the people.

I can assure folks that in our town poor black people's children get exactly the same standard of care that rich whites do. My bride works in a busy pediatric clinic that accepts Medi-cade or any other form of payment and there is absolutely no difference in the attention to individuals regardless of their economics. The problem comes with the at home follow through. Taking an obese sick kid home and smoking up the house and not preparing decent food or not properly dispensing the expensive prescriptions causes the disparity.
