Goliath it’s a great show it’s on amazon. Ozark on Netflix (I’m sure you watched that already) kingdom on Netflix is pretty good, Jack Ryan on Amazon is good, Trailer Park Boys on Netflix is ph ucking hilarious. Season 1-2 kind of slow I always tell people to start watching at season 3. The Witcher on Netflix was good,
Ozark on Netflix is superb, right up there with Breaking Bad or the Sopranos for quality TV. Three seasons so far with more to come. Speaking of, I think one or both of them has all seasons of Breaking Bad and Sopranos.
Better Call Saul on Netflix, only four seasons so far but they'll have the 5th season available probably end of summer.
Rome and Deadwood are older HBO series available on Amazon, maybe Netflix as well. Deadwood is almost Shakespearean in its dialogue, that is if Shakespeare had his characters say cocks*cker a lot.
Band of Brothers and The Pacific are available on one or the other, maybe both.
Five Came Back on Netflix about 5 big Hollywood directors who went to war and filmed it. All five of their movies are also available - Battle for Midway, Memphis Belle (the original), John Huston's Battle for San Pietro - they actually restaged part of that battle just for the movie, and some others whose names escape me at the moment.
Can't mention Netflix without mentioning Fookin' Peaky Blinders, and if you like dark and twisted sort of sci-fi Black Mirror is good.
That should get you through this weekend at least...
On Amazon - Counterpart. A really great off-beat series. About the only way I can describe it is as a spy show with characters who live in two dimensions, it's hard to describe except to say that I doubt there will be much in between - it is either love it or hate.

Ozark stresses me out because Marty isn’t freaking out.... I’m thinking, dude, you’re a dead man, your family is gonna get butchered in front of you. Why are you numb?

drover
Thanks Drover...Weird is cool, if the show is well done. I gotta look at it now.
The interesting thing about Marty is that he is very intelligent and very good at compartmentalizing his emotions. His wife however is a very ambitious, emotion driven, power hungry and dangerous. Great series

The Last Kingdom series on Netflix is pretty good if you like lots of sword fighting. They're supposed to be releasing season 5 sometime in the near future.
The Last Kingdom is very good, excellent production values and covers a period of history you don't see too much about.
Also, Vikings Season 6 is on Amazon Prime, another great show. It lagged a bit in season 5 but the latest season seems to be picking up okay. I still think Ivar should have been killed about 4 or 5 times by now, but he just keeps crawling along...
Since this craziness with C-19 began, I have discovered that I have Smart TVs and Amazon Prime with access to Russian War movies with English subtitles. They are worth watching for just the pleasure of viewing the country side and the likes of Svetlana Ustinova. Try some of the following: Lieutenant, Panfilov's 28 Men, Ancestral Land (the tv series), The Dawns Here Are Quiet (the tv series), Battalion and there are many more. You can also watch a number of them, not all, on YouTube. CP.
Narcos/Narcos Mexico-starting with Narcos to be watched first. Ozark Mindhunter Black Mirror-Twilight Zone meets high tech Better Call Saul Rise of the Ottoman Empire
I like some of the English shows. They're a little different from US shows and you have to watch a few to get used to the style, especially their humor (think Monte Python). One thing I like is that many of the actors are more like real people, not the Hollywood glamour types like we have. They have a lot of murder mysteries that seem slow moving but they get pretty deep. I liked the Midsomer Murder mysteries on Amazon.
Rewatched Breaking Bad over the winter. Followed up with Better Call Saul, just finished Ozark and now watching After Life. First 3 were excellent. After Life has taken a few episodes to get in the groove, not bad - different for sure.

I'll have to take a look at The Vikings. I'm not familiar with it.
The Last Kingdom is based on a historical fiction novel but does have some truth in it. I looked up some of the characters. Alfred the Great was very real and the show follows his life fairly closely. He was the youngest of 3 sons of King Aethelwulf. There was an agreement that if the king died, the sons would inherit the throne in order of their age. It would be passed brother to brother instead of father to son. One brother did have a son Athewold who we see in the series. The 2 oldest brothers died young so the throne came to Alfred when he was fairly young. He was the legitimate king because of the agreement. He didn't usurp the throne from Athewold. Uthred is very loosely based on a nobleman from Northumbria who lived about 100 years after Alfred died. He wasn't a warrior and there's no record of him ever fighting the Danes or living with them.

A cool thing about Amazon and Netflix is the exposure to foreign films and TV shows. The Russian war movies are interesting to see - patriotic themes in a war where your comrades are dying by the millions and your own government would kill or imprison you for saying the wrong thing. The Korean, Japanese and Chinese films and TV range from the same pablum you'd see on domestic networks to some very good work. Chinese stuff tends toward fantasy a lot, the Japanese TV on Netflix is overall pretty good.
In that vein, Million Yen Women on Netflix is good. You think it's going to be some lightweight jiggle show like the old Three's Company - five girls in an apartment with one guy - but it turns dark pretty quickly.
if you want a break from shoot'em ups and sword fighting, Samurai Gourmet is pretty good, about a timid 60ish retired guy who suddenly has time to enjoy life with his spiritual alter ego, a Samurai warrior. Funny and warm at the same time.
Midnight Diner is slightly different but also a good show about people. It's not violent or has much if any sex but most of the episodes are about the less publicized parts of Japanese culture and people - gambling addiction, unfaithfulness, dealing with human foibles in a land of rigid social norms - but in the end it's very uplifting. You'll either like it or turn to some shoot'em up real quick.
Babylon Berlin on Netflix is a terrific show IMO. It's in German with English subtitles (you might be able to see it dubbed in English, I never checked). It's set in Berlin in the late 1920's at a time of social change, the Nazi's are still just another street gang fighting the Communists at this point in time, and is about a detective on the Berlin police force with shell shock and nightmares from WWI and a young woman, a stenographer and part time prostitute, who aspires to join the police force. Really engrossing characters and top notch production values with great sets, filming and acting. The lead character, Detective Gereon Rath, is a morphine addict when you could get morphine at the corner drug store. The actress who plays Charlotte is sexy in a Dana Delaney sort of way, pretty although not drop dead gorgeous - she's a working class woman struggling to succeed, not a glamorous soap opera vamp. You really root for her.
BBC Sherlock , Luther, Broad Church, Line of Duty, Endeavor are fairly entertaining

Bosch, The Expanse, The Boys, Grand Prix Driver, Le Mans, The Tick, Racing Science, The Marvelous Mrs. Masel, Good Omens, Carnival Row, Jack Ryan, Justified on Amazon. Umbrella Academy, The Kominsky Method, The Crown on Netflix.
The Boys, Good Omens, Carnival Row and Umbrella Academy will go best if you enjoy superhero / fantasy entertainment. The others are more down to earth.
Peaky Blinders was good at first but I lost interest. The two I've enjoyed on Netflix lately are Blacklist and Confinement. They are especially interesting with our current gov overreach.
The John Wick series is good to. I think it was pay-for on Amazon.
Watched fist few seasons. Was pretty good. Hate that damn intro and got a bit tired of the commissioner and OF COURSE Bosch is ex-special forces. Just hasn't gotten back in to it.

I just finished The Last Kingdom on Netflix. It was decent, not great, but I liked it better than any other new series I've tried to watch on there in a while.
Definitely worth giving an episode or 2 a watch to see.
Just finished "Tin Star" on Amazon. Pretty good series. Also bought "Valdez is Coming" with Burt Lancaster. "Hombre" with Paul Newman ain't all bad either! Lots of good stuff on Amazon (although you may pay extra for some of it). Gotten so sick of Netflicks I only visit once or twice a year. Spend a lot of time streaming "The Red Green" show and a few others on Youtube for free also.
The Outsider on Prime (maybe HBO) is based on a Stephen King novel and produced by Jason Bateman. Really well done and the suspense just keeps brewing.
I just watched some BBC series called the Durrells in Corthu or something like that. I'm almost embarrassed I watched it because it had too much modern liberal spin but I enjoyed the time period, 1935ish, and seeing the Greek island.
Season 2 of Jack Ryan pissed off a lot of Venezuelans because it sort of forgot to mention that Venezuelas problems were due to socialism. Hollywood had to leave that but of info out. Otherwise it's a good series.
I couldn't make it through even one episode of The Ranch. I've read most of the Bosch books. The series is decent, but not the way I'd imagined the stories in the books. They've changed Bosch's age for one thing. I didn't imagine Chief Irving the way he is depicted either. The series gets pretty slow but I've stayed with it thus far.
I watched all of Babylon Berlin. To this day, I don't know why.
Breaking Bad is simply one of the best series' ever produced. Don't miss it. It's prequel, Better Call Saul is generally almost as good. This last season wasn't as good as the others and knowing in advance what happens to some of the characters from Breaking Bad kinda puts a damper on things. It's also "can't miss" though.
The Sopranos is currently on one or the other. If you haven't seen it, do so.
Banshee is great. Very fantastical, but still an excellent show. It's a pity that you have to buy like, the last two or three seasons. Haven't seen them. If you like action but not as much as a John Wick movie, then Banshee is for you. It has one of the best fight scenes I've ever witnessed, this side of the playground.

That movie looks good. And I agree about the Sopranos. I think it's on both. Definitely see the Ballad of Buster Scruggs, too.

2 things for certain here, neither you or the choreographer of that phony scene have ever been hit in the head.
Most any good story well told about three dimensional people is a good movie or TV series. That's what makes the Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Ozark and so many others so great, the characters are complicated and not one dimensional. Some of the most boring and tepid movies or TV shows are where you know exactly what and who everybody is and how they will behave in the first minute they're on screen.
Another oldie but goodie on Netflix right now is There Will Be Blood.
That movie rules.
Daniel Day Lewis is excellent in that movie, and several others. I didn’t realize they knew how to do directional drilling back then....”Let us drill your land for money or we’ll pump your black gold dry from afar”. Holy Fûck!
“The Town” was another decent flic with Ben Affleck and Jeremy Renner.
Whomever recoed Waco 👍🏻 Thanks. Has always amazed me the trust most Americans put into large governmental institutions
One set of rules for us another for the ruling elite & their henchmen. Not that there aren’t some good agents serving, but those bureaucrats are self serving above all else

IB, Jack Ryan is only 2 seasons. Sorry for the confusion.
I was expounding through my expeller.
We've really enjoyed it. Krasinski is a very good actor. So, been looking for a new episode and you piqued my interest.
IB, If you like Jack Ryan, try Homeland.
I just finished Homeland and overall I'd say I liked it but some of the craziness of the main character got to be too much. I about quit part way into it when I realized I was out of my seat cheering when her own people shot her.

Caught myself telling her to STFU last night. Stomping around with their hair flying. Lol.
Wife has been living on the Couch watching TV Movies, when she is not at work at the Hospital.. she is loving it, I'm going nuts like I am on house arrest...
one movie came on that caught my attention, 12 Strong....
Special Forces Team in Iraq.. supposedly true story...
That was almost a Military style " John Wick", so lots of killing..
Pretty much every fiction movie made in the past 20 years is garbage. Netflix is where they go to die.
Netflix occasionally has some interesting documentaries. But very few. Even those documentaries that have an interesting topic have been politically spun until they're unwatchable.
For those who like documentary/historical shows I’ll add “Trosky”. It’s on Netflix as a series. Got to tolerate subtitles which detract but the acting is good and story is an interesting take on the major players and events of the time.
My wife and I watched Anne of Green Gables. It is set in Canada and it's about a girl who lost her parents and she ended up in an orphanage. She was adapted because the orphanage told the folks who were adopting her they were sending a boy. I don't usually watch this type of program but in this case it was worth the time. I know there was a book out at one time but I'm not good about reading books. IN the end it's a happy story but it sure is sad through parts of it.
This would be the 2017 version. Here is an out take of the girl who played Anne.
But if you do hate indians, there are some scenes you'll appreciate.
It's on amazon.
Don't hate Injins but Imma check this out right now, raining here and kinda cold.
For those recommending something I personally would appreciate if you indicated weather it's on Netflix or Amazon. Saves me a little time searching. Thank you in advance.
I watched some stupid asssss movie yesterday on Amazon with John Travolta and Morgan Freeman. It sucked balls, don't waste your time. Can't recall the title. Also watched Gotti with Travolta last night, wasn't so bad but would not watch it a second time.

"The young ones just get drunk and the old ones dance a ghost dance" lol ... Indians stereotyping Indians?
I'm currently enjoying Giri/Haji (Duty/Shame), a series on Netflix. It's the story of a Japanese policeman whose missing brother was a yakuza gangster. He gets information that his brother may be alive and hiding in London and he goes there to find out. Most of the dialog is in English, there are some scenes in Japanese with subtitles. Very well acted, extremely well written with well developed characters with both virtues and flaws. This is not a stamped out police flick; a lot of thought went into writing it. Very entertaining.
Once you've seen Godfather one and two, it's difficult to watch the rest of the garbage that tries to pass as a movie.
Some of the mini series are good,...Lonesome Dove,...Band of Brothers,..
But the movie producers will slap all kinds of garbage together these days and call it a movie. Probably because no matter how bad it is, they can get revenue from selling it to Netflix. Movies don't have to make money at the box office any longer.

8 seasons, Poobs. Definitely some hotties and high body counts.

If you like rusty old muscle cars you might get a kick out of Rust Valley Restorers with the rust bros on Netflix. I’ve only seen 3 episodes but will probably end up watching them all since I love old mopars.
Haven't read through all of these, but another sleeper is Banshee on Amazon. The first couple seasons are best, definitely not family friendly. Ex-con takes over as small-town sheriff. Bad good guys and good bad guys and some of the best fight scenes ever.
One I didn't see listed was the BBC's Sherlock Holmes series with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. That is family friendly. Khan and Bilbo solving crimes...
Others I'll second: Strike Back (what 24 could have been if anyone ever cracked a joke, like real soldiers and cops) The Last Kingdom (Bernard Cornwell's 12-book Saxon series, not a bad adaptation of the books but they're always better) Ozark (just wow) Peaky Blinders (always makes me want to drink) Jack Ryan (the first season is much better than the second, especially for Clancy fans) Yellowstone (far-fetched but great if you spend or spent any time on a ranch. I'm sure actual Montanans hate it) Generation Kill is a bit dated but I just re-watched and love it even more now. If you've been to war, you know.

I finished Giri/Haji and it turned out to be even better than I thought. There's a scene on a rooftop in the last episode that demonstrates the main character's deep and deeply conflicted feelings towards the other characters in a way that was both beautiful and a complete surprise. I didn't see it coming at all, but I was sure glad I saw it.
Thanks Jim for recommending Babylon Berlin. Just finished season 1. Interesting characters, acting, plots, and places it is filmed. I'm watching the the dubbed version.

That was almost a Military style " John Wick", so lots of killing..
all in all, a good movie tho...
Takes place in Afghanistan, not Iraq. Nothing like John Wick. Mediocre at best as far as movies go.
Must not have caught much of his attention.
Good or Bad, added to the watchlist
Son of a bitch I have already seen this and just paid to watch it again. At least I don't remember it much....
Uhhh, you are hiding in the rocks and they are shooting at you.... Are you supposed to stand up fully exposing your balls up before you return fire, or stay a bit lower? Thanks.
I can't believe nobody mentioned "Hell on Wheels". I thought it was excellent.
Same with;
Tiger King (it's dumb but everyone must watch it) Longmire Narcos Wrong Missy Molly's Game Triple Frontier Ozark Dead to Me Arrested Development (it's ok) Unbelievable Waco American Experience - Ruby Ridge Shameless The Sinner You The Good Place Orange is the new Black

Bb
Bb, I thought I remembered reading this somewhere. Funny. And you're right..
I watched season 8, then started the series from the beginning. Like you, I almost cheered when she got shot by her own people.
Who in the real world CIA could disobey that many direct orders and get away with it? Lol.
Not sure if it has made it to Netflix or Amazon yet, but avoid Capone, starring Tom Hardy, like the plague.
Movie depicts the last year of Al Capone's life, after the Feds released him from jail and he was dying of syphilis. In the first twenty minutes, you get Hardy with an absolutely incomprehensible fake voice, schitting and pissing himself.
Seriously. This thing is complete gibberish and unwatchable. Twenty minutes was all I could stand.

Highly recommended.
Well, I was about half watching and looked up to see two twinks f*ucking! Could have done without that image.
Megatomb. It is about building a cover for the decaying sarcophagus of reactor #4 at Chernobyl. An amazing design and construction project never before attempted. It is very well filmed and produced.
Guys who like stories of great hardship and trial by ordeal may enjoy a Polish made film "The Way Back". A group of prisoners escape one of Stalin's gulags and travel, on foot, 4,000 miles south to India around 1942. Not your usual mass market Hollywood crap.

Agreed it’s a great movie. The book was even better. It’s one of those books/movies I wish I could watch again for the first time.

Yep, good movie.
Watched a Russian tank movie, you know that one, not T34, last night and liked it.
For something light hearted and short episodes, Netflix " Kim's Convenience" is pretty funny. It's about a Korean Family running a Convenience store in Canada. The old guy is a conservative and funny as hell.
We watch some foreign series that are good, I can't hear good enough on any show so am used to CC, reading the dialogue isn't an issue, my wife is used to it since I've needed it for quite awhile.
Anyway, Netflix... 'Better than Us' is a Russian series just released, so season 1. Really good writing and acting, one of the best things I've seen in awhile, hope there's a season two.
After they made anne of green gables (wife's childhood classic - she watched, I surfed here) a fuzz bumped, I said [bleep] netflix. Jack Ryan season one and two is pretty good. Hunt around and you can stream it free from 3rd party sites.
Watched The Old Guard on Netflix last night. A band of immortals who have lived a very long time try to do good in the world but the modern generic villain - big business - wants to put an end to that for selfish monetary reasons.
Typical ballet of violence fight scenes with women kicking major ass against large men willing to move and react slowly, and the guys kick butt also, I guess for a facsimile of fairness. Lots of Glock-fu, MMA-fu, battle axe-fu and sword-fu. No naked breasts but a couple of down shirt scenes. There is the de rigueur faggotry in everything Netflix related so be warned there. Much of the movie is taken up with dozens of black suited anonymous goons stylishly massacred with nary a care - apparently body armor is useless against 9mm's. Marines will recognize a big gaffe by the screenwriters early in the movie.
But it stars Charlize Theron, so, you know, Charlize Theron. Not a great movie but not a bad way to spend two hours.
One excellent WWII flyboy documentary, bombers. Through Prime, I had to use a free trial for HBO to watch. Very highly recommended. THE COLD BLUE. Some of the last alive interviewed.
Quotes from recollection.
Some call you the greatest generation.. *Yah, I'm starting to think that...."
" Anyone says they weren't scared is full of chit." regarding flack...

natman, Thanks for the tip. Just finished 2nd episode of season 1. You were spot-on. Nothing like that will ever come out of Hollywood again. The plot is thick and characters are well-developed. As an example, Bosch pales in comparison.
I got hooked on Peaky Blinders on Netflix. Post WWI Birmingham gang with ambition. Dark storyline but exceptionally written, great characters. There are five seasons, so it’ll take a while to get through. Sometimes using the subtitles helps get through the accent. I’d highly recommend it.
There are some great old movies available free on Prime right now. One is Hud, starring Paul Newman. No violence or gunplay, just a character-driven story of the old west meeting the new. Larry McMurtry wrote the novel it's based on. I don't know if he did the screenplay or not.
For those who think they've seen every movie centered around the OK Corral gunfight, there's Doc, an early seventies effort starring Stacy Keach and featuring Faye Dunaway (not as Wyatt Earp). It was not historically accurate, but still entertaining. I knew of the movie for quite some time but short of some effort to get EVERY movie put on DVD, did not think I'd ever get to see it.
We watched Greyhound. It was really good. The only thing that bugged me was all the animation used. Not even sure if animation is the correct term for digitally created scenes. The water didn't look right, etc. I guess that's the reality of modern movies. To be fair, back in the day they would splice in actual war footage for parts of a WWII movie.
My wife and I were talking last night - without realizing it, we've stopped watching cable TV. The only thing we watch is the local news at 5 and 11 , mainly for the weather and Covid-19 updates/rules
We still watch Netflix and I've got some IPTV thing that has a bunch of old TV series and some movies.
YoutubeTV is $64 a month now for me. I could drop that and not miss it a bit.
I might change my mind when winter gets here but it might be worse if there are no college sports.
There's 1 full season. It looks like it might be good.
I watched it, it's pretty good about the dangers and emotional conflicts of being an undercover narcotics cop. It's in Dutch with English subtitles. I lived in Belgium for a while and was amused to find out the area near where I lived was described as the drug center of Europe. Don't know if that's actually true nowadays or not.
Just started watching "Black Sails" - Took me a few times over the last year to get through the first episode, which wasn't bad but I have a hard time getting into new shows. Been watching an episode or two each night
Kill the messenger, on Netflix. Gary Webb reporting on the CIA's involvement in the crack epidemic in South Central LA. Rick Ross making 3 million a week to help fund the Nicaraguan rebels. Damn good docudrama.
May be repetitive but my wife and I like these. Ozark, The Last Kingdom, Marco Polo, Hell on Wheels, Peaky Blinders, Shameless, The Foreigner and of course Longmire. All on Netflix. Les
If you're looking for something low key and like cooking and food, I'd suggest "Chef's Table BBQ" on Netflix. It's not an action kinda thing, but I'm enjoying it.
6 Days, about the Iranian embassy siege, this was the public demonstration of not negotiating w/ terrorists. Does a good job of telling the story of the interplay between politicians, police and the military. The 22 SAS is well portrayed and the period and tactics are spot on. Look for the Maglights taped on the MP5s and the "dangler" during the assault.
Watched "What About Dick" on Netflix the other night. It's a radio play performed live on stage. Eric Idle wrote and directed it with a bunch of fairly famous British comedians starring in it. If you like Monty Python style humor you'll probably like it, if not then you won't.

Classic farce with an all-star cast! My wife and I loved it.
That's Ian McCollum, "Forgotten Weapons" channel on youtube. They've taken a bunch of videos on similar themes and compiled them into 2 hour long "movies". I watched Heavy Machineguns and German Infantry Weapons last week. If you've seen his videos they aren't just "hey, watch me shoot steel plates for 20 minutes", he goes over the details of how the weapons work, field strips most of them and adds a good bit of history on each one. Interesting if you're interested in that. You can watch all of the individual ones on youtube but this is nice since it gathers similar types into one place where you can watch straight through or a bit at a time.
I watch a lot of messican narco series 45 minutes long sometimes 50 episodes and some from Spain. they have 20-30 of the most beautiful women that ever walked the earth in the series. just when you see one woman and say it is impossible for a woman to be better then her 5 minutes later another one appears and so on
After action report. Watched The Outpost Saturday night. It's "okay" but just okay. Like most films about some specific battle they can't spend too much time on each character so you only get a thumbnail sketch of the main players and their lives and then the events of a day long battle are compressed into the last half of the movie so you don't get a good sense of how ferocious and back and forth it really was.
However, they did give a good sense that the guys in Afghanistan have to put up with the same kinds of SNAFU's soldiers had to in Viet Nam. Some higher up in a safe place insists on making a show of something and the soldiers in the field have to pay for it, sometimes with their lives. Also how some officers are very good leaders and some are much less so.
Overall I give it 3 stars, it's definitely worth a watch even if not great cinema. The last portion while the credits roll can invoke some allergies.
As gay as the karate kid is, I do like the guy he beat and reopened the dojo. He's an awesome throwback to the 80s and zero political correctness. Knowing Netflix, they'll probably ruin it though and he'll be re-educated to be a sensitive modern man.
Watched “The Social Dilemma “. How the digital revolution has put so much power in the hands of so few. Part of the program is about how social media is used to destabilize democracy’s around the world.
Watched The Liberator on Netflix, based on the combat experiences of the 157th Regiment, 45th ID in WWII. Pretty good, overall.
Get past the first episode which makes a big deal about how the men fought together but couldn't go to the same bar together - you think it's going to be all revisionist "systemic racism" stuff at first. But it picks up a lot after that and episodes 2, 3 and 4 are pretty darn good, really good in places.
It's done in a form of rotoscoping or animation over live action and sometimes that takes away from the impact since it reduces the figures to cartoons; I also spotted a few military inaccuracies. But that's nit picking, don't let any of that get in the way of just watching the story. I give it four stars at least.

Tried watching that, couldn't do it. The rotoscoping completely ruined it for me, I can't understand why they did it that way.
Lots of good documentaries on all the cable channels but some are only found by luck. The 50 Year Victory is a simple homemade but excellent story of a cruise to Antarctica on a Russian nuclear icebreaker. The Great Adventure Race in Patagonia made in 2013. 10 days in incredible country, only 3 teams finished.
Almost finished with the series, two more episodes to go. Subject matter might not be everybody's cup of tea but an extremely well done show.
I agree. Structurally it's the classic underdog sports movie that's been done by everything from Rocky to the Karate Kid. BUT it's so well done that it manages to transcend that and become an enjoyable drama. The clothes, the cars, the music and the manners are all pure 60s. Her backstory is dramatic and her struggle to become a functioning adult is compelling. Very watchable.
Thanks for the suggestion. Very good and interesting to see from the German perspective. Kept up until 2 AM Tuesday night watching the first two episodes.

i finally figured it was about time to watch "the Liberator" on the 45 regiment during WWII. It had specific impact to me, as of a certain member of the 45th, a well known figure at the time, broughty home a schutzenfest rifle picked up as they went into germany.. beautiful single shot rifle and in a off caliber, has silver enlay logos on buttstock with innitials, whose i have never been able to find out. it sat in a closet for many years due to the ammunition question, until my grubby paws got on it. i got the brass, lead bullets, dies, and could load for it, but have never shot it. sure on my mind after watching the movie.
I've been so desperate for movies I've started watching Chinese made Samurai movies. (yes I realize Samurai are Japanese)
They are essentially Westerns, just pretend the coolie hat is a stetson, the lead character can't grow a beard for schit and they all must be from Eastern Canada because you can't understand what they are saying.
Oh, and they use swords instead of colts.
If you can tolerate subtitles, I watched one called 13 Assassins (Prime?). 13 Assassins is basically The Dirty Dozen/Magnificent 7 variety,
I find myself turning the volume up when I can't follow the subtitles. I guess its like turning the radio down in the car when you're lost.
Many of the Korean films are decent and some are very good, albeit with the same caveat about subtitles. "Psychokinesis" is a bit offbeat but very watchable. "Train to Busan" and "#Alive" are two of the better zombie movies if one likes that genre.
El Candidato is a good series on Prime. Circa 2011.
Only 1 season, but It's good. Note: You have to be able to stand a certain amount of Spanish language with English subtitles. About half and half Spanish and English.
Plot revolves around crooked Mexican politicians and cops, cartels and American CIA.

Makes you feel right at home.
Lol.
Correction on the release date. This is a brand new 2020 release. Prwtty good series, actually.
Tread, a Netflix documentary about a guy in Colorado who welded armor plate to a bulldozer 15 years ago and wrecked a small town because of a property dispute.
Basically, the guy comes off as an old azzhole that let his azzholishness rot his brain, and turned into a lunatic. Should be a cautionary tale for every old azzhole out there.
I finished "Manhunt: Deadly Games" last night (on Netflix) and really enjoyed it. It's about how Richard Jewell was railroaded by the FBI and the media. It also goes on to tell how they eventually identified and captured the Olympics bomber. There's a whole lot to that story that I knew nothing at all about.
Netflix: My Octopus Teacher. The general story was good, the philosophizing near the end was corny. The S Afrikaner was tough, free diving without a wetsuit in 46’ F water.

Korean movies I’ve seen and like: Tae Guk Gi, the brotherhood of war, and The War of Arrows. Not sure if they are on either Netflix or Amazon though.
Expanding the topic, I had dropped HBO Max several months ago. Never watched much on it except a few of the better series - Sopranos, BoB, Pacific, Rome, Deadwood, GOT (heck, those are almost worth the price of admission by themselves), most of the movies they got seemed to be only second rate.
Last night I was looking something up and found it was on HBO. Looked around the site and saw they had some shows from other networks/streaming services I'd wanted to see but wasn't going to pay for just for those shows. I see they've added TCM which was one of the only 3-4 channels I ever watched on cable TV, plus Warner will simultaneously release all of their movies in theaters and HBO, like Wonder Woman 1984. So I'm back on HBO.
I remember watching HBO back in the 70's when it first came out. Nekkid wimmen on home TV, that's progress!

Yep. I remember that. So revolutionary for the times to get movies long before they would normally find their way to TV. You had your tuner hooked to a wire that led to an antenna in your attic. Our neighbors got it years before we did, and we thought it was so cool to watch movies in their living room that were just in the theaters a few months previous.
Southland, series on HBO Max. LAPD, several different perspectives, Patrol, Homicide, Gangs etc. Some PC BS but pretty gritty and well written, acted and directed.

1. Load Kodi. 2. Load Exodus and Cinema APK underneath.
Certainly one of my favorite movies. Panned by the critics, loved by those of us who like good storylines.
I love where the witch says “Wars are won in the will. Perhaps you are fighting in the wrong fields.”
And near the end, when Ibn prays: “Merciful Father, I have squandered my days with plans of many things. This was not among them. But at this moment, I beg only to live the next few minutes well. For all we ought to have thought, and have not thought; all we ought to have said, and have not said; all we ought to have done, and have not done; I pray thee God for forgiveness.”

Just watched the Clooney movie about finding a new planet
I thought it sucked
I’ve spent a lil time in cold weather conditions, you’re not gonna fall through the ice, put a dry parka over wet clothes w the wind howling & dig a hole in the snow & live.
Even the space travelers, 5 people for a 2 year mission ? And then gonna split up 2 stay & 2 try to make it back to earth ? (1 died)

I thought the whole thing preposterous 🤦🏼♂️
I got half way through The Midnight Sky and came to the same conclusion. There are a lot of odd things going on. Do they really have little kids in arctic research stations? Do astronauts on long term missions really forget their birth control and get pregnant en route? How did the ice change from strong enough to support the vehicle to not strong enough in the middle of a blizzard? And, as you noted, if you fall in arctic water in the middle of a blizzard and don't get warm and dry out immediately, you freeze to death.
I usually get stuck on "his rank is on backwards," or "that's not what that's called," or "how's that Glock making a cocking noise?"
I can usually tolerate a certain amount of nonsense in a movie,. But it's one thing to ask the viewer to suspend disbelief, but this movie required that you hang it from a church steeple.

Skankhuntr42, I Agree. I just finished it, too. Talk about the FBI squashing information. I had never heard of Eric Rudolph. The whole reason Richard Jewell got put in the position he was put in.
Been watching the Last Kingdom on Netflix. It's pretty good, but I'm on the third or fourth season and it is getting kind of tiresome. I can summarize and save everybody a lot of time:
Spoilers:
1. Hero Mullet Guy doesn't fit in with the Vikings 2. Hero Mullet Guy doesn't fit in with the English 3. English king screws Hero Mullet Guy over 4. Hero Mullet Guy helps English king anyway, because reasons 5. Hero Mullet Guy gets a new piece of tail to bang 6. Hero Mullet Guy kills Vikings 7. Repeat, every season

Agreed! That movie was horrible, waste of time and S L O W. Towards the end I paused it for some reason and Netflix asked if I would recommend it, Hell NO I wouldn't recommend it!

I didn’t stay awake watching it.
It wasn't very good, was it?
1. Nuclear holocaust on earth
2. Clooney warns his illegitimate mudsharking daughter, who just so happened to be on a spaceship with her dude, that just so happened to find an inhabitable moon of Jupiter, to stay away
3. The Mezcan and white guy on the spaceship decide to off themselves by flying into the nuclear hellstorm of earth, because reasons
4. Mudsharking Clooney daughter and her bro fly off to the moon of Jupiter, to inhabit a new planet with little inbred mulatto detergent commercial kids
On Prime, I just watched a Columbia Pictures flick "Cowboy" (1958) Starring Glenn Ford and Jack Lemon with Dick York.It is definitely worth a watch if you like the old style westerns.
Tom Hanks' News of the World is pretty good. Post Civil War era western you can watch with the wife or gf without worrying about there being too much gore.
Hanks takes some artistic license with the timeline, but it adds to the story in the time he has to tell it.
YouTube has essentially joined the game with a new set of free movies every month. Just watched Support Your Local Sheriff with James Garner. Fun, lighthearted, American style Western, and Garner was a perfect casting for the role.
And they also have Support Your Local Gunfighter for free, which I also saw as a kid, and will likely watch again tonight. Same cast, essentially, even though it's not a sequel, despite what the title might imply.
Hold the Dark, on Netflix. About a good 1/3 of the movie was shot so fugging dark, that you might as well have been watching a blank screen. The other 2/3 had no plot to speak of and made no sense.

One of the better movies I’ve seen in awhile. I’ve watched it four times now. You’re nuts.

The only good part was where the Injun opened up on the cops with the machine gun (for no reason).
None of it made any sense at all. By the end I was rooting for the wolf pack to roll in and eat everyone.

I fell asleep awhile back, my wife got control of the remote. I wake up and this movie was on. It was where the injun was shooting up the fuzz with M60. My wife tried explaining the movie I got a headache and went out to the garage and started reloading. Chitty movie
Just finished Bates Motel on netflix which is leaving Feb 19th so if you are going to watch it, get on it. My wife and I really enjoyed the series. The psychological aspect of the show and how it ties into the original movie is great. The two actors who play Norma and Norman do an outstanding job.
Stay away from "Raised by Wolves" on HBO. It's directed by Ridley Scott, who gave us Blade Runner and the first Alien movie and also stars the guy who played Ragnar in Vikings. It starts out really promising, the first four or five episodes are good sci-fi with interesting characters and an interesting premise, but the remaining episodes slide inexorably into crap.

I watched it and had exactly the same reaction. Started out with real promise that it never delivers.
“Snowden”, if you haven’t seen it you should. Even though it came out in 2016 some of the final scenes turned out to be prophetic. It was a better movie than I thought it would be. Oliver Stone directed it.

Liked it, too. Very prophetic. Now, they're doing much worse than what he exposed.
Zulu, and Zulu Dawn, on Tubi. If you can put up with commercials, Tubi has a bunch of free older movies on it. Lots of John Wayne and other old westerns, lots of old cheesy horror films, etc.
The commercials aren't really any worse than the ones on the Commie networks, and they don't play old Boomer white guy movies anymore, so Tubi is a pretty good resource.

It was a joke and an obvious one. You have a burr up your ass about Boomer references for some reason. Relax.

I'm GenX, not young anymore. We get to make fun of boomers and millenials both, because we're so inconsequential, everyone forgets we even exist.
Sometimes it pays to be the middle child that no one remembers.

Not proud of the aging hippies from my generation with $300 haircuts and $3k suits now sitting in board rooms, Senate chambers, House chambers destroying American lives and wealth. I probably hate them worse than you. I'd like to throat punch them all. But that doesn't mean I'm one of them. I have voted against those idiot turds all the way down the line since the early 70s.
Some younger folks fail to realize and accept the concept and value of an experienced ally.
Watched The Gunfight At OK Corral last night. Pretty good. Details very different from Tombstone, but still a good movie. For example, in Tombstone, Wyatt's brother is shot down soon after the OK Corral gunfight. In this one, he's shot down the night before. I assume that Tombstone has it more historically correct, but who knows. Worth watching, regardless.
The Longshot with Tim Conway, Harvey Korman, Jack Weston & Ted Wass. Not a bad flick, with Tim Conway humor. Too bad the movie description amazon and imdb give are completely wrong.
Definitely worth the time, and I am finding many of the foreign thrillers, conspiracy, LEO series rather worth my time. Some incredible acting and some serious dark plots!
Enjoyed the series "Sinner" with Bill Pullman. We ended up starting with the third season and watching them backwards. They are anthologies so it really didn't matter. There a some quirks that bugged me about the show but overall was pretty good.
If you ever think you may have been a bad, mediocre, or just had a regret in parenting watch Abducted in Plain Sight. It will totally relieve you of your personal stress. At the same time piss you off to no end. Just proves people are stupid!

And explains it as a moment of weakness?
LOL
Yep! I remember watching that a while ago. The dude did the mother and got a tuggie from the father before taking his prize if I remember it right. Piece of shiet but the parents were surly at fault too.
Watched "Any bullet will do" . I really liked it. Thanks for the tip. I am into the western or frontier movies. Can't stand modern times stuff. Born 100 years too late.........though I may not be tough enough to have survived then.
In case it hasn't been mentioned, Master and Commander is a truly first rate movie, staring Russell Crowe as the captain of a British Navy war vessel during the Napoleonic Wars. Great naval battle scenes. Free on Prime.
Netflix series MoneyHeist is good, it is in Spanish but is subtitled. The plot is non-believable but the series as a whole is entertaining and the best part of it is that it is nearly impossible to guess what is going to happen next.
Only really one identifiable SJW moment. If you like Denzel Washington, you'll like the movie.
I appreciate the heads up on this. I watched it and liked it, felt like it fizzled in the end. Could have been great but they went the wrong way with it IMO. As a lawyer that works for himself, and formerly a "lincoln lawyer" for 2.5 years....I like movies and shows that grapple with the plight of the solo lawyer.

I agree. Did so much character development on Roman Israel. Then felt like they rushed it at the end because they were running out of time on the 2-hour movie clock.
Thought Colin Farrell did a good job in his role as the slick corporate attorney, yet entrepreneur.
Overall, goid movie.
Watching a series called Snowfall now. Pretty good. Story told from 3 sides.

This so true and now, "Far Side of the World". The twenty novels of Patrick O'Brian are at the height of fiction writing. Men's books, written for men. Every major incident in O'Brians novels are based on Royal Navy records. Truth is indeed stranger than fiction.

I've read all of the Aubrey-Maturin (named after the main characters) books and was sad that there were no more when I finished the last one. They are written in early 19th century seaman's slang and take a bit of getting used to. I remember a paragraph where I knew the current meaning of every single word, but still had no idea what it was about. I found a very helpful book, A Sea of Words, that acts as a translator / dictionary. After reading a couple of the books with its help I found I had gotten used to the language and didn't need it very often, but it was invaluable when I did need it.
The books themselves are fantastic and well worth the effort. O'Brian could write a thrilling sea battle and make it come alive in your head. Highly recommended.
Not "Prime or Netflix" as we can't stream chit due to piss poor innanet. Basically binge watched 'Pacific' this rainy weekend on History. Stopped for quick look and couldn't leave it. Started recording all of the episodes, came back a couple hours later and watched and watched and.... Finished last night
I'm sure I read this on a reputable source. To get realistic sound of cannon shot hitting a ship for Master and Commander the special effects people placed microphones near stacked railroad ties and had civil war reenactors fire cannon balls or shells into the ties.
We watched "Still Mine" last night on Prime and enjoyed it. Very well acted and it won some Canadian film awards. I like guns, shooting, fights and horses too, but Sweetness needs date night type movies and the Brad Pitt type movie "Inglourious Bastards" enlisted guy using the baseball bat on the POW's isn't quite what she has in mind.

Cool. I will have to give it a try. Been years, and without Campfire insights.
Tinkered around and got Cinema HD working again last night. Had to delete it and Downloader and start from scratch, but I'm gtg again now with the no-ad version of Cinema HD, and using the new MX Player.
Just watched "Behind Her Eyes" on netflix. Pretty good series to watch with the wife. A little bit of a mind bender that was well written I thought.
Wife and I watched it and thought it was good.
Murder among the Mormons was interesting. I can remember when that all took place plus seeing that [bleep] in the joint when I worked there in the early 90's.
there is nothing on Netflix or amazon Prime worth giving your money to those enemies of liberty and justice.
While this is true there are MANY who know that you don't have to give your hard earned money to either one to enjoy the shows shown on them. ANYONE with any computer ability at all will be watching their shows payment free lickety split.

Lol.
I downloaded Cinema HD to the fire stick yesterday and WOW! I think I could get rid of Amazon and Netflix and not be missing anything. Everything I looked for I found on Cunema HD. What does the MX player do?

miguel, MX player has been popular for Android for quite a while. 500M downloads, according to them. It got its popularity as a player on Android phones. i never used it that way. Troy of Troypoint.com suggests its use with no-ad Cinema HD. Ads are the #1 complaint with users of the new MX player on their Android phones. Since I'm running it with no-ad Cinema HD, I have zero problems with that. Troy's video on his site shows you how to set it all up.
What I do notice is I can run larger streams up to 1G and above in 1080p without buffering on my older Fire stick. It is also very easy to watch movies and TV shows with subtitles. I watched an Italian movie with subtitles last night called The Immortal, which is related to the excellent tv series Gomorrah. There used to be a learning curve to using subtitles. I have been using mostly Opensubtitles.org for ~ 3 years. But, the MX player made it seamless and painless last night watching The Immortal.
From Troypoint.com site:
"One of the main reasons streamers love MX Player is for its ability to use Subtitles and advanced hardware acceleration.
Oftentimes, using MX Player will result in little to no buffering for all your Movie and TV Show selections!
Because of this feature, we have included MX Player in our Firestick Buffering Guide."
In The Line Of Fire, starring Clint Eastwood is free this month on Prime. I think I only saw it once when it first was in the theaters. As I recall it was pretty good. I think I'll watch it tonight.
for you firestick guys, you should really look into IPTV services. If you're willing to roll the dice, thousands of channels, on demand and new release movies , some in theaters or just released on streaming channels. Its not hard to setup if you learn how to use filelinked (by using downloader) - its $20 a month.
Good gawd, all star cast and so bad It oughta be a parody/spoof. Nolte, Defoe, Spacek, Coburn. What a clusterfuuck. Just the deer hunting BS is worth it. Winter in rural NH? One wacked out scene after another! Gawd damn Defoe is narrating.
Saw this article, suggesting a few NON-WOKE flicks.... From Breitbart
Man, movies suck today. So does TV. Sure, there are exceptions, but are you really willing to dig through all that Woke Poop to find something decent? I’m not. Time is too precious.
So, until the Woke Gestapo finishes its hideous run of anti-art, until this era of insufferable, self-righteous, guilt trip, anti-joy propaganda comes to an end, I’m sticking to the tried and true. And not just choice cuts, like Goodfellas and Singin’ in the Rain and Red River. I’m moving into the deep cuts, those titles I remember enjoying that are now mostly forgotten.
The titles listed below (basically, what I watched over the past couple of weeks) have always been under-appreciated. Compared to the violations of human nature being produced by the Woke Nazis, they play like masterpieces.
As far as where you can find these titles, they’re all in my personal collection, so you might have to hunt around your streaming services or the Internet to find them. All I can do is link to where I got them from.
The Doctor (1992)
William Hurt, Mandy Patinkin, Adam Arkin, Elizabeth Perkins, Christine Lahti, Wendy Crewson…
Look at that cast. Movies used to be like this. Real actors. Adults. Talent.
A terrific William Hurt stars as Dr. Jack McKee, a gifted heart surgeon with no heart of his own; a man terrified to connect to others, including his own wife (Lahti). While he’s a skilled doctor, he’s cold and distant with his patients. And then, one day, he gets sick and finds himself funneled through an indifferent system.
Based on an actual doctor’s 1988 memoir A Taste of My Own Medicine, The Doctor is the movie Regarding Henry failed to be. There are a couple of moments where it gets a little cute, but for the most part, The Doctor avoids the treacle.
BEST SCENE: When McKee asks Adam Arkin’s Dr. Eli Bloomfield for help.
Phase IV (1974)
The only feature ever directed by Saul Bass — one of the most influential graphic designers in movies — Phase IV was a box office and critical flop when released but rebounded when people like myself caught it late on the late show.
Ants have stopped warring and appear to be organizing and getting smarter. Ground Zero appears to be the Arizona desert, so scientists James R. Lesko (Michael Murphy) and Ernest D. Hubb (Nigel Davenport) set up a self-contained lab in the middle of this nowhere and quickly find themselves in a psychological war.
I love everything about this movie… What you never forget, though, are the visuals. Bass directs the hell out of this, and in a pre-CGI world, what he and nature photographer Ken Middleham got those insects to do is even more mind-blowing today.
BEST SCENE: For the sake of the rest, one ant after another sacrifices itself to pull a chunk of poison to the queen, so she can digest and give birth to ants that will be immune.
White Sands (1992)
Willem Dafoe, Mickey Rourke, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Samuel L. Jackson, M. Emmet Walsh, Mimi Rogers, Maura Tierney, Fred Thompson, James Rebhorn, and the great John Ryan.
One of those rare movies where Dafoe is the protagonist and hero. He plays Ray Dolezal, a New Mexico deputy sheriff obviously too smart for his lot in life. Nevertheless, he sticks because his wife (Rogers) and son come first, and that’s what heroes do.
A dead body, a suitcase full of cash, and the opportunity to spend a night doing something other than catching speeders prove too tempting. Ray sets off to ID a body by going undercover. He expects to be home the next day and soon finds himself involved with the FBI, CIA, international weapons dealers, and the stunning Lane Bodine (Mastrantonio), a dilettante who likes to “do good” by playing footsie with bad boys.
Largely forgotten and dismissed, I think people missed the overall point of this beautifully-shot neo-noir.
White Sands is about something much bigger than car chases and plot twists — it’s about a decent, everyday family man’s struggle to avoid the worldly temptations laid at his feet. It’s about a man with a moral compass surrounded by the morally compromised who still tries to bring the bad guys to justice without becoming one of them.
If you watch the movie with that in mind, it becomes something very special and moving.
BEST SCENE: Because I’m shallow, it involves two people in a shower. Gee, remember when movies were fun and sexy?
Crooklyn (1994)
Crooklyn, director Spike Lee’s semi-biographical, slice of life, near-masterpiece is easily the director’s most accessible movie to date, the lovely and moving tale of a large Brooklyn family struggling to get by in 1973.
The story centers on nine-year-old Troy (a stunning Zelda Harris) and her coming of age in a house with four brothers, her stern but loving mother (the great Alfre Woodward), and her loving father (the great Delroy Lindo), a struggling musician caught between his dreams and family responsibility.
Without ever feeling episodic, there’s no over-arching story, which is why the movie works so well. Lee and his co-writers (siblings Joie Susannah Lee and Cinqué Lee) deliver up a series of subplots while recreating 1973 America in perfect and affectionate detail.
Best of all, Lee never stoops to Boomer Porn with cheap callbacks and Easter eggs and lazy nostalgia. It all feels real, like a home movie, thanks primarily to the kids, whose performances are so natural you can hardly believe it.
Best of all, if you grew up in the ’70s like I did, you don’t have to be black or from Brooklyn to relate to every one of those 115 minutes — from the games we played to the fights to the pranks to the bickering to the backtalk to the lying and local store and weird neighbors and bad influences and dancing to Soul Train and singing along with the Partridge Family. What I could most relate to was being sent off to stay with relatives in what feels like an alien land.
Lovely, lovely movie. Poignant, hilarious… One that stays with you.
BEST SCENE: Any scene where the kids are laying around on the bed watching TV.
The Package (1989)
Gene Hackman, Tommy Lee Jones, Joanna Cassidy, Pam Grier, John Heard, Dennis Franz, Reni Santoni…
Director Andrew Davis first caught my attention in 1985 with Code of Silence, a B-movie he directed into an A-movie set in my favorite city, Chicago, that starred Chuck Norris, Dennis Farina, and Henry Silva.
He did it again in 1988 with Above the Law, which is also set in Chicago and made Steven Seagal a star.
Then along came The Package, which, despite its A-list cast, still bombed with a $10 million gross off an $18 million budget — which is about half of what Code of Silence and Above the Law grossed.
Nevertheless, it’s a gem. A political-conspiracy-action thriller filled with great performances and Chicago locations.
The Mighty Gene Hackman plays Johnny Gallagher, a U.S. Army Special Forces Master Sergeant, assigned the thankless job of transferring insubordinate deserter Tom Boyette (a crackerjack Tommy Lee Jones) from West Berlin to a stateside prison.
Things have only begun to unravel after Boyette escapes. Pretty soon Gallagher is involved in a high-level assassination plot involving ne0-Nazis, the CIA, and a patsy, while the U.S. and Russia prepare a disarmament treaty.
John Heard is a real standout giving real dimension to what could have been a pretty thankless role.
BEST SCENE: It’s a tie: Hackman and Jones debating duty and patriotism on a transport plane is unforgettable: “What’d you do, read a book, Walter?” Then, near the end, when the villain explains his motive, the movie has the courage to make it an intelligent and reasonable one. You can’t approve of his methods, but he’s not wrong.
Four years later, Davis would reunite with Jones for an A-picture he knocked right out of the park: The Fugitive (which is also set in Chicago).

So there you go. Five intelligent, entertaining, adult titles that can help you muster through this Woke Reign of Terror, which is going to be around for a while.

Great history documentary about the plane's beginnings and utilizatation throughout the war with interviews of the pilots who flew them and their support staff. Includes an entertaining segment about the women ferry pilots who flew the planes around where needed, taking pressure off the male RAF combat pilots.
Watched Without Remorse last night. First night available to stream.
Michael B Jordan is not a bad actor. But, Tom Clancy wrote the novel with John Kelly being white. Fact.
Hollyweird has gotten so smitten with SJW crap and artistic license, they destroy decent movie plots with it.
If you believe this person as a SEAL team Lt Commander, you'll believe anything.. including that it defeated a Russian Special Forces operator in HTH combat with a knife.
You will also need to believe that a "sniper" rifle has the report of a 75mm howitzer.
However, an underlying theme does hold water. That embedded slimes within govt and industry want war for profit and will faithfully disregard the human impact.
If you want something different try Baraka on Prime. It is a feast for the senses w/ no dialogue at all. Spectacular cinematography filmed in 70mm around the world w/ lots of time lapse and aerial/drone use. Subject matter is everything from nature to massive scale manufacturing, religious rites and rituals and various human activities around the globe.
The sound track is worthy of a good stereo and varies from live natural sound to eclectic music.
Sit back w/ your favorite relaxing treat and enjoy something of genuine quality.

On Prime Three Days in the Life of Lt. Kravtsov was pretty good. It's about a newly minted Lt. in the Red Army going to the front after being told by a mathematician that his life expectancy was only 3 days. Russian with English subtitles.
Just watched The Mitchels vs. The Machines on Netflix. One of the best family movies we've watched in years. Very fast paced, animated movie with a great message. A+
The Serpent on Netflix is moderately entertaining. It’s based on a true story of a Half Indian half Vietnamese French national who killed hippy kids in Southeast Asia in the 1970s then stole their money passports and money and traveled the world selling gems and killing more people.
It’s a pretty interesting period piece and it is an interesting look back at what might have been the high point of western civilization. At one point he and his girlfriend drove from Paris to India. No way you could do that now. But back then the roads were there and it was safe enough that you could do it.
Netflix has a pretty good documentary on the French secret service in the sixties. It covers their role in the bay of pigs, Cuban missile crisis, and the Berlin Wall, among other things. It's in French with subtitles. It's called, "A Very Secret Service".

You can still do it. I had a taxi driver in Paris a couple of years ago that had just driven home to Pakistan and back.
Well yeah, I can’t say that I recall watching someone being prepared for dinner down the middle like that. The Indian caller was a pretty novel concept too. Since the Prime account is the wife’s I had to cough up the $2.99 plus tax or it would have been a bone of contension.
I see that The Road is now free on Prime. Saw it once many years ago. Plan to watch it again tonight. It's about an asteroid impact that results in a mass extinction on earth, and follows a man and his son in their efforts at surviving the aftermath. Clearly, the impact occurred on the far side of the planet from them, or they would have been broiled alive by the ejecta. I recall the man, his wife, and son, were viewing a glowing night sky, which would have been the ejecta from the earth's magma returning to earth from near orbit, and impacting the globe everywhere randomly.
I enjoyed watching "A Simple Plan" free on Prime a couple days back. 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, so other people liked it too. I've noticed that what was a charge movie on Prime a month or two back is a free one now. Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World as an example. With my Scottish tight wad ancestry, I like free stuff.

Master and Commander is great. I've had it on DVD for many years.
Jupiter's Legacy on Netflix is okay if you like super hero type stuff. Six people acquire various powers in the late 20's - early 30's and now have to train their offspring in the super hero game to take over. Decent production values and CGI and since it deals with aging it might find some sympathy with the 24hcf demographic.
This one is a bit of a twist since it discusses some opposing viewpoints on right and wrong, old school clear cut "do the right thing and never, ever, never under any circumstances kill the bad guy or use their powers to influence governments" vs. their whiny children's "the world has changed, the bad guys kill us so why can't we kill them and use our powers to influence governments?" - meaning it should be okay to kill Nazis and everyone we don't like is a Nazi.
It got a very low score on Rotten Tomatoes and my guess is that it's because it wasn't nearly woke enough. They dare to show that maybe some of the old school values had merit so the woke reviewers hated it. Anyway, they give both viewpoints some discussion so everyone on both sides might find something to hate. Or like.
The Sting is free on Prime. Must have been 40 years since I watched it last. Think I'll watch it tonight. As I recall, it was quite good.
PS Many of the free movies on Prime state that they are free with ads. That's only the case if you watch them on PC. When viewed on a smart TV plug in device they are free and commercial free. At least that's the case when watched on my AppleTV. I assume it would be true on an Amazon Fire TV plug in, too.
The King. A pretty good retelling of Shakespeare's Henry V and the battle of Agincourt.
Netflix.
Just finished watching, and absolutely agree.
If you follow along with the actual history as you're watching the movie, it makes it that much more enjoyable. The movie does not stray much from the generally accepted and documented history.
Had I been better educated about the siege of Harfleur and Battle of Agincourt when in Honfleur, we would surely have visited both locations. I believe we were only 17 mins from Harfleur, just east of Le Havre.
Thankfully, we did have at least a layman's knowledge of the area's history and visited the Bayeux Tapestry during our stay there, which tells the story of the Norman Conquest, 4 centuries before Henry V..
Our main mission in Normandy was, of course, to visit the sites of Le Debarquement (D-Day).

Umm, maybe get the book. I think Hollywood missed the whole point that Cormac McCarthy wanted to make. It's like saying the Civil War was about slavery.
The Sting is free on Prime. Excellent movie. Like Oceans Eleven set in the early 1920s.
Also Top Secret is on Prime. Pretty funny movie from the 80s starring a young Val Kilmer.
For science fiction, action, horror, there's Resident Evil, with the "Multipass" chick from The Fifth Element. They also have the first sequel to it. I think there were four sequels in all.
Watched a good survival movie couple of nights ago on Prime called Jungle. True story about some backpackers who get lost in the jungle of Bolivia. Harry Potter kid is the main character. We enjoyed it.
Hatred on AP. It's about Eastern Galicia in the '30s and how the Poles dealt with the Ukrainians before WWII and how they both dealt with each other after war broke out. It has English subtitles and is one of the best movies I've seen in a very long while.

Sounds interesting. I'll try watching this tonight. I watched defiance the other night which was decent. It was James Bond hiding eastern European jews in the forest during ww2.
Watched Population 436 on Netflix last night on a recommendation from a friend. Afterwards, I called him and asked if he was serious when he said it was a great movie. He maintained that he thought it was.
Wow. I'll never get that 1 1/2 hours of my life back...

i watched it. my grandmother came from that area, and it struck home. very powerful movie.

LOL
Good movie, but not a pick me up.
I tried but I couldn't get through it. It bounced along too quickly and I was too tired to track it with sub titled. It definitely seemed more like a Russian tragedy than a pick me up feel good show.
Probably needed to be a mini series if it wanted to have time to show grieving between tragedies.
Amazon - watched "The Wall" tonight. Not too bad, it is about a couple of US snipers who are pinned down by an Iraqi sniper. It is a bit slow but it has some good unpredictable twists in it.
regarding hate. number of years ago my cousin in the former yugoslavia came over and mentioned she was dating a serbian. she is croat. she said we are not that way anymore, the old animosities are gone. after gettin over the shock my comment was they are not overwith, and that relationship would never hold up within the family. to put it bluntly it would be like a white guy marrying a black woman. Further down the road yugoslavia dissolved, and she married a croat. her uncle after living for at least 20years in bosnia, was given death threats and had to leave or be killed, wife and children too. ihis neighbors told him he hd 24hours to leave or all be killed. tribal behavior is strong for a reason, survival the film is not exclusively about the russians, that is a story in itself. the film is about poles, ukrainians, germans whoever has the power ripping you up. the enemies are the same no matter the ethnic background. and a graphic example of why you own firearms. they did a pretty good job just with axes.
Watched it again last night. It’s never not good! 🤠
Yep. I saw it once before, back a few years ago. Great movie. A classic. I knew the ashes where going to blow on to The Dude, but I had a belly laugh when it happened anyway.
The 2004 remake with Denzel Washington of the 1962 classic. The plot was modified to a 2004 environment, but respective of its theme.
The symetry between the plot of this movie made 17 years ago and our current situation is undeniable. Both situations characterized by unworthy usurpers to the Whie House and Oval Office.

i saw that film originally when i was a kid. i understand for many years it was "off the market" as far as being seen. i see the connection to our present situation too.
Black summer on netflix. Another zombie series and I don't really like constant flashbacks... but it was well worth the watch and season 2, that was a couple years after season 1 was really good. I like the way they filmed the scenes in long takes, not flipping every couple seconds.
Edit... Season 2 was made a couple years after, the show is in a summer, then the winter.
The 5 episode series on Netflix titled “How to Become a Tyrant” - especially the episode on Stalin - lays out the roadmap we now see unfolding in the USA.
BTW, none of these tyrannies ended willingly, spontaneously or through elections .

Watched the one on Hitler the other night. Going to watch the other episodes when time allows.
In the past month of so, I've been wearing out Amazon prime.
There are a bunch of "B" movies on there that appeal to my entertainment value - the general tough guy action movie with actors I haven't heard of or usually play minor roles in larger films.
Mostly they follow a formula - retired hitman/badass LEO tries to live a quiet life but his sister/daughter/random child/ex partner/kitten is killed by crime figure and he has to go clean house
I'm not exaggerating when I say there are probably 70 movies on Amazon prime like this - you select one and then it suggests like 20 others just like it.
Start with a search on a guy called Scott Adkins and go from there
here are some that I have flagged in the "My stuff"

Documentary basically about Ford vs. Ferrari. I think Adam Corolla produced it. Very good and if you liked the movie, you'll dig the retelling of what went down.
Just tonight I was searching Netflix for Korean War movies or documentaries (my Dad fought there). I couldn't find any at all. WTF, really must be the Forgotten War.
Hologram for the king (or something real close to that). Tom Hanks. I’m halfway lit but it’s pretty good so far. Still no idea why you’d want to be in the Middle East for any other capacity than shooting the inhabitants there of.

Alien is never a bad choice. Unless you’re sober and realize Sigourney Weaver isn’t hot under any circumstance other than her role as Dana Barrett in Ghost Busters.
Absolutely sucked. About on the level of the schidty made for tv movies that the Sci Fi Channel used to squirt out every week back in the 90s. Bruce Willis should be embarassed.

My youngest daughter thinks Ripley is a god.
LOL
Funny that a movie from the 70’s could show a strong woman without an annoying message.
Just finished watching Escape at Dannemora on Prime. Well done series about a true event. If you watch it, look up the real people when you're done with it. Casting director should have won an award lol.
You can’t stream it but I took my daughter to see “Old” on Thursday and it was very good.
Shamylan had a message in the beginning that said movies are best viewed in movie theaters and it’s time to stop being a buncha bitches and go see movies again. (Paraphrasing) Then he thanks the audience for doing so.

I didn't know they made another " Lost in Space " movie couple yrs ago. Seen a clip on it surfing the web.
I dont have Netflix, but am thinking about getting it now. Also lots of Sci Fi movie stuff I would like to watch on it also. Like the star trek related ones.
Bruce Willis is cranking out as many movies as Nicholas Cage.
His format is he'll be in the movie long enough to make an appearance, collect the check and get his name on the poster, but the other no name actors do the bulk of the work.
So I watched a movie on Amazon prime last night called Cosmic Sin - its a space shoot'em up and its easily the worst movie I have watched this year.
The movie starts out with 2 people on a mining planet there to do some testing. They are alone on the planet so of course they are going to bone and that is where the movie starts. No tiddies, so its already got a strike against it, then aliens show up and then the next scene is on earth they are saying they are assembling the survivors, which is like 8 people from a planet that just had 2 people on it.
The movie gets worse from there.Willis doesn't even care, he's staring at the camera throughout the movie , like he is looking at you saying "are you still watching this crap?"
I don't watch much TV but watched a couple of the of the Netflix "How to Become a Tyrant" series. Told from a "this is the playbook" instructional point of view it was kind of interesting how they are doing the series. Talks about Hitler, Stalin, Hussein, Amin....I'm not sure who all they'll look at but several were mentioned. I'll probably check out of another one or two.

and the answer is , yes Bruce, I am, I'm bored.
I tried to watch The Breach, with Willis in it. Got about 15 minutes in and gave up.
I was under the weather yesterday and watched 3 movies via firestick. -Battle for Los Angeles, pretty fair action flick. -24 hours to live, kinda weird action movie with a touch of sci-fi. Enjoyed it. -Men who stare at goats, which is one of those movies that never really caught my eye, but I decided to watch it anyway. Turns out that I avoided it for over a decade for a good reason.
Another great show on Netflix is season 2 of Black Summer. If you're normally an extreme sociopath or even just deeply paranoid and love double crossing, lying people engaging in absolutely senseless killing, I mean people shooting other people on sight for absolutely no reason at all, then you will love this show! If you think nihilism is much too optimistic and Nietzsche was a Pollyanna wannabe, you will love this show!
If you have a hard time in life with continuity and your thoughts randomly jump from one thing to another, and you arrive at conclusions or perform actions and then only later find out why you reached that conclusion or did that action, this is the TV show for you!
It also has great cinematography.
P.S. Didn't want to appear negative on a thread about greatness.
Going way back, Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon are very entertaining movies although I haven't checked to see if they're available on Netflix or Amazon.
Being that they're 80 years old some stuff in them is kind of dated but Bogie is in top form as Bogie and in and of themselves they're good stories well told, which is the heart of any good movie.
The Graduate, Carnal Knowledge, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest are all great stories featuring top actors in their earlier years.
Watched "The Hunt" on HBO last night. Mixed feelings about it but if you suspend reality a bit it's fairly enjoyable and has a good ending. It's supposed to be a satire and it hits both left and right with equal alacrity.
Basically it's about a group of rich elites who kidnap and hunt deplorables for sport; they choose their victims from folks who make right wing comments on the internet or run right wing websites. Most of them are knocked off pretty early in the movie but one woman turns the tables on the elites.
Lots of blood spatter, no bare breasts but the lead, Betty Gilpin, is easy on the eyes and has a nice rack. In the finale you have to believe that two women in their mid to late 30's can take bodily punishment that would incapacitate a Navy SEAL, but overall it's a good watch.
Hit & Run series coming out next Friday, Aug 6th, on Netflix.
Israeli, from the creator of Fauda, Avi Issacharoff. Starring Israeli actor Lior Raz, who also starred in Fauda.
Netflix description - "A widower becomes embroiled in a high-stakes, international conspiracy while seeking closure from his wife's inexplicable death."
I just watched Breaking Bad again and had a revelation that the series was a shilling for Obama care. The first two seasons are a nothing more than a vehicle for absurd hyperbole indicting the health insurance industry. It's right out of the swamp's playbook. Incite the masses with a polarizing fiction—in this case, the fiction that the health insurance industry is in dire need of reform—then save them with sweeping legislation, which is really a Trojan Horse for special interests.
The series portrays "a public school teacher with cancer and a DEA agent maimed on the job as unable to get the care they need paid for by their plan. The audience is left clamoring for 'CHANGE' while the insurance lobby gets a torqued up bill passed. One that lands all the most expensive patients on the government's tab (in safety net plans funded by the tax payers) and everyone else's premiums increase by 200-300%.
It's crazy, after a full scale 2 year indictment of the health insurance industry, the Affordable Care Act is passed and the series never touches on the theme again.
I'm watching a series called A History of Ancient Britain via Prime. Probably on Britbox. Very well put together with up to date information. Pretty interesting. Actually darn well done. Not absent of foofooery, but, intellectually rewarding (I'm a trucker) and it seems fairly comprehensive. Highly recommend for those interested in human pre-history.

Hah, sorry I was excited Dances with Douches got taken out and got carried away.
Screwball is a documentary about the Alex Rodriguez doping scandal. Pretty good.
Malice in the Palace is a documentary about the fight that broke out between Detroit Piston fans and three Pacers.
Cocaine Cowboys: The Kings of Miami is a new doc on… cocaine and the 80’s. Demonstrates just how far behind the Us government is when it comes to these things.
Several episodes into "Hit and Run"...I'm likin' it. Although set to actual events, total fiction, "Deutschland '83, 86 and '89" is very well done and will appeal to us old farts who lived through the cold war. Paints some very vivid pictures of the contrast between communism and democracy. Good representations of stuff like Pershing missile crises in Germany, Angola vs SADF, Libya....good history set to some very good acting and twisty plots.

Thought Hit and Run was good, too. Especially after main character gets to NY. The Israeli film makers still haven't figured out how Americans really talk to each other in normal conversation, though. That's entertaining in itself.
Note: cliffhanger ending. So, it looks there are plans for another season.
One warning concerning "Deutschland" series...there is a couple of gay scenes...but it's not like they are promoting it, they use it to demonstrate that back then, in the '80's, AIDS was a death sentence. And, there is always the fast forward button.
I don’t know that you can argue the testimony of the people in those interviews.
But that’s best left for another thread.
There's no doubt that WWII was horrendous for a lot of people. Lots of people were gathered into work camps (in the US, too), and lots of bad crap happened in them, particularly on the losing side near the end of the war. Many suffered and died. No one doubts this. If that's their testimony, I have no doubt they're telling the truth.
PS You know that Eisenhower murdered hundreds of thousands of surrendered German soldiers in camps, right? Regular front line soldiers, not concentration camp guards, even.
We watched Greyhound (Apple TV) a few weeks ago, pretty good flick but it wasn't very long. Tom Hanks might be a liberal douchebag but he's still a hell of an actor.
I don't believe either have posted yet, but The Defeated about the occupation of Berlin post WWII is very good, and the start of the cold war games! Also, watched The Railway Man on Amazon, a very good movie about a WWII POW railway enthusiast reconciling with his demons and captors!

START UP on Netflix if you can stand Ron Perlman. Good Haitian mob insight in Miami. Some stupid sh*te with the punk techie crowd, but good drama overall. First 2 seasons have Martin Freeman in there. In total, there are 3 seasons.
If you like British cop shows, or even if you want some good plots, LINE OF DUTY is excellent. Adrian Dunbar is excellent in that series: Adrian Dunbar- quotes from Line Of Duty
In my opinion, the Brits do much better with plots and shows that make you think. DCI BANKS, PRIME SUSPECT, ENDEAVOR, etc. are all good.
LITTLE BOY BLUE is a great detective series about an acting chief detective who nails a teen gang for killing an 11 yr old boy.
White Tiger on Amazon. A russian movie about WW2 tank battles, it is about the Russians fighting a mysteriouis German tank. The movie is hard to describe it because it has a mysticism quality about it but it is excellent IMO. It was nominated for Best Foreign Film honors at the Oscars.
Alert - it is a little slow at times but well worth watching.

Just watched Slither, free on Prime. I saw it about ten or so years ago. It was a pretty good, fun, horror/science fiction. Story line is sort of a cross between The Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Crazies. Pretty gruesome at times, but also a bit funny at times.
PS The Crazies is also free on Prime, as I recall. I didn't watch it only because I have it on DVD and have seen it several times. If you haven't, The Crazies is pretty good, too. Maybe even better than Slither.
By coincidence, both version of The Invasion of the Body Snatches are also free on Prime this month.

PS If you like Westerns, Prime has (free with ads) The Virginian, the 1960s TV series. I rate it as a top notch Western series. Great acting and story lines, not to mention production quality.
Be warned that you will see Model 92 Winchesters, and Colt SAA revolvers with the spring loaded base pin cross latches (which didn't appear till the late 1890s). But if you can overlook such common problems with 1960s (and earlier) style Westerns, it's well worth watching.
PS "Free with ads" means that they have commercials but, oddly, when I watch anything "free with ads" on my AppleTV device (which is on my big screen, living room, TV), it's free without ads. Been that way for as long as I've owned it. Watch the same things on my Amazon Fire device (hooked to my bedroom TV), my iPhone, or my MacBook, and there are commercials. Not sure why the difference, but I'm not complaining.
Might be because my AppleTV device is quite old, and may not be able to support commercial interruptions.
Most movies have me regretting wasting the time spent watching them. This one is on Amazon and I found it very entertaining. (Sweet eye candy too...😁)
Kinda like Jaws. Is it free on Prime. Saying it's on Prime or on Amazon for a fee isn't saying much, since just about any movie can be purchased or rented on Prime.

Yah. Definitely says something about the guy. Otherwise was getting over judgements I'd made based on similar previous comments. Nope - a good reminder. Really fuucked up and over a solid line for me.
Into the Grizzly Maze, on Netflix. Billy Bob Thornton is an evil professional hunter who can't hit a bear the size of a fuggin school bus from ten yards with a scoped rifle. And then the hero valiantly kills said monster bear by stabbing it with a three inch skinning knife.
"Peaky Blinders" on Netflix. About Irish gangs in Birmingham England after WW I. Pretty damn good.
x3 Great series and well written, very good cast. I'm sure the new 2021 release's will be massively slowed down with a major character that recently died, not sure how they'll deal with that.
Branching out to other channels, HBO just recently added the three classic Man With No Name movies - Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad and the Ugly.
They also have the latest Mad Max movie, Fury Road. IMO the second one, Road Warrior, was the best of that series.

Theron and Hardy hated each others guts during the entire filming of that sequel, most of the cast was very uncomfortable during the shooting.
Just finished breaking bad. Started slow and didn't think I would like it but the characters were pretty good and it got better after season 1. Justify is my #1 followed by Supranos, Designated Survivor, Ozark and The Americans.

I loved both The Sopranos and Breaking Bad. Two of the best series ever made. Bing watched both. Walking Dead was great about till they discovered the walled in neighborhood. It quickly deteriorated from there.
Watched The Omen on Prime last night. It's the remake. The original with Gregory Peck was better, I believe.
I remember seeing the remake in the theater and the whole audience breaking out in laughter every time the boom microphone would dip down into the shot, right over the head of the star that was speaking. I think they may have fixed this defect, somehow, since I looked for it, and never saw it on the print I watched last night.
Reminds me of a scene in season one of The Virginian (a 1960s TV Western series) I watched the other day. It was a town scene, where there was a gathering of an angry mob in the street talking about lynching someone for murder, and as the camera pulled back, momentarily you saw a very conventional looking 1960s man in a 1960s style suite and tie, wearing 1960s style glasses, standing to the right of the screen, then they switched to the next scene. I guess they figured not enough people would notice to bother taking it out or refilming it. He must have been a member of the production team on set and got a little too close to the action during filming. He looked hilariously out of place in the 1890s American West.
American Crime Story: Impeachment is on FX every Tuesday.
I believe it’s into its fourth week. Monica Lewinsky is one of the producers and it focuses on her story accordingly.
You can buy it on prime but you’ll only be able to view the episodes that have already aired.
Clive Owen plays Clinton. It is pretty granular in how it explains Linda Tripp’s role and how it all unraveled. It is less than flattering toward the Clintons without being ridiculously biased.

Yep, I got through the first few episodes with Negan and that did it for me, and that stupid tiger guy.
Riders of Justice (2020), a film from Denmark. It is absolutely hilarious and it's not just hilarious. Great flick!
Terrific film...for days now since I have seen it, I think about the littlest random events and misconceptions that show us humans as just pool balls bouncing off cushions, going the strangest directions. Hilarious?, not to me, but definitely tragicomic. Not since, "The Gods must be Crazy" in which an empty coke bottle set off a random chain of events, have I seen such a thought provoking film.
Starts slow but picks up a little steam about the 4th episode. A fantasy drama that is nothing new, but the writing is good and the acting is good. Better than a lot of the HBO fantasy series.
Just watched the 2011 version of The Thing. Pretty good. If you haven't seen it, I'd recommend it. Good special effects. Lots of frights. Cool concept. Free on Prime.

Came across one today on Amazon Prime I'd never heard of. "Sahara", a 1995 remake of the 1943 film of the same name with Humphrey Bogart except James Belushi plays the Humphrey Bogart role. About an American M3 tank crew in Libya in 1942. Don't think the dialogue is quite word for word the same but otherwise it's a direct scene for scene copy of the original. James Belushi trying to play a tough Army sergeant just doesn't work, skip this and stick with the 1943 version.

Netflix is bringing back Aliens this week.
And Coming To America with Eddie Murphy.
The first four Alien movies were on Prime last month. Might still be there.
Thanks to all in this very useful thread, Being familiar with the tenor of this place gives weight and meaning to your reviews. Only got 92 pages to go. Thanks again, and remember to always Ride the High Country.

The Trench, on Amazon Prime. How do you make a film about the Battle of the Somme boring? Cast Daniel fugging Craig as the lead, and have him stomp around in a trench and do his usual glowering and moping bit for all but the last three minutes.
By the end you're cheering for the fugging germans.
Citizenfour is a documentary about NSA Whistleblower Edward Snowden. I personally DGAF about anybody's opinion of Snowden. The documentary is not real well produced, but that's not what is important. What is important is the degree of unmasking of what the NSA is and has been doing with the information it collects on every single American and, quite literally, every single person around the entire world. This documentary was released in 2014, so you can only imagine the level of information gathering the NSA is at now.
If you haven't seen it, or it's been many years, Taken (Liam Neeson) is free on Prime now. Just watched it. Last I saw it was many years ago. Great flick.

Yes. IMO, Snowden is a good movie. Citizenfour is strictly a documentary.
A wild ride telling of Old John Brown in those white hot days. Telling of how he proved white men would fight, kill other white men and die to free slaves. Telling of how he showed that a civil war was indeed possible. And so they had one.
We have been watching The Sinner on Netflix. Just started the 3rd season. The first two seasons were great. It’s a detective/mystery/suspense type series. Very well written and great acting. Each season keeps you guessing.
I'll throw out a couple of well done comedies on FX or any streaming service that packages FX - I watch them on Hulu.
What We Do in the Shadows - a quartet of vampires lives together in a house on Staten Island. The TV show derived from the movie of the same name. Folks will find it wickedly funny or not funny at all, depends on taste. Lots of "language" and some violence.
Reservation Dogs - more of what they call a dramedy, revolves around the lives of four teenagers on a reservation in Oklahoma, I think they are Cree but it's never really said Again, folks will immediately be drawn to the characters, situations and humor or not at all.

Excellent. Jessica Biel is quite easy on the eyes in Season 1.

The Snowden film really changed my opinion of him, after learning the facts that led up to his decisions...very interesting.

I agree.. And it is chilling to think of what the NSA is up to now.
We've been watching Colony. It's pretty good. Decent acting and the story is well done. Dystopian enough to feel like it relates a little to the current craziness.
All the Reacher book nerds should be happy to see Thad taking up the role.
Well he's certainly a big improvement over Tom Cruise, who's about a foot too short and 100 lbs too light to be Reacher, who's described as 6'5" and 250 lbs. It was pretty funny to see Cruise playing Reacher while having 5'10" Rosemund Pike towering over him. The actor playing Reacher doesn't have to literally be 6'5", but he does have to be a big guy.
Well lots of pages and I didn't read them but if you haven't seen "The Devil All The Time" I highly recommend it. Its a bit dark in the beginning but if you stick with it, it really gets better as it goes.

Warning, a few F bombs in this clip.
Reservation Dogs was good, I really enjoyed the character of William Knifeman, he's funny
I want to thank you guys for the suggestion. I've watched:
Mr. Robot ( loved it )
Goliath ( great )
Better Call Saul ( so good I paid for the last season )
and now enjoying Bosch so far so good.
I've been up multiple times till 2:00 am on a work night binging this stuff it's so addictive.
I pre-ordered the next C.J. Box book due out in Feb. 2022 read everyone so far and if you like C.J. Box you will love The Woods Cops Series by Joseph Heywood. I can't recommend it enough. I also ordered a couple of books today by Mike Bowditch about the Maine game warden...........hoping they don't disappoint cause there's a lot in the series.
Edited to add: William Kent Kruger Cork O'Conner series is way above average.
So far I've not read Nevada Barr but I picked up the first two paperbacks.
Absolutely excellent, Gary Oldman is a fantastic actor.
If you like this, read The Splendid and the Vile. There are many Churchill biographies, but this one concentrates on Churchill's life during the Battle of Britain in great detail.

Shows how fickle and f'd up British politics are. They've had plenty of practice.
Narcos Mexico Season 3 just started tonight on Netflix.
I grew up with some guys from Ojinaga that would talk about their Tio (Uncle) Pablo and his exploits. That made that series all the more interesting for me.
The Eyes of Tammy Faye, on Amazon. Surprisingly good. Whoever the actress is who played Tammy Faye Bakker, did a heck of a job. It hits the right balance of showing how ridiculous the Bakkers and the whole televangelist phenomenon was, but at the same time Tammy Faye comes across as a sympathetic character.
Well done and way better than it has any right to be.

The Chernobyl movie was eye opening, lots of details were presented that I never knew about. Cheap reactors still exist in Russia. It could happen again.
This is the second part of Oliver Stone's documentary, Revealing Ukraine, a follow up of sorts. It can be watched free several places. This is a link to one of them.
Gierek (2022) is a biopic about the controversial Polish leader who modernized Poland with loans from the West (France and USA) in the 1970's. This is a great film, of high production value, and particularly relevant given the state of the world. It's the result of 30 years of research and a window into the other half of the Cold War—the side seldom seen by Westerners.

Meat Hound,
You’re supposed to state where it can be watched for free.
I got tired of the short seasons, and the long gaps between them, each ending on a cliff hanger. I think the last episode I watched was when Mike shot the German engineer. What season was that the finale of?

Huh. Maybe I should buy one month of Netflix just to binge watch Season 5. Is it good?
Prince of Muck is a neat documentary about a farmer who lives on a small island off the cost of Scotland. His family has owned the island since the end of 19th century.

Bro, can you recommend something with more light entertainment value and less cerebral concentration required for documentary viewing?

In Harms Way is on YouTube with limited ads. Really not many.
I hadn't seen it in forever but re-watching it last night, realize it touched on a lot of things not normally seen in a Wayne or WWII flick. Rape, suicide, divorce etc. Also - I'd say that the romantic chemistry between Wayne and Neal was much more "real" than anything between Wayne and O'Hara. Probably because they didn't get along in real life.

Is that the one where Burgess Meredith growls "We got us a gut-bustin, mother-lovin NAVY war!"
That line always cracked me up. It was one of his movies with Wayne.

Yes. Season 6 stsrts April 18.
I was talking on the phone to my brother yesterday about this. He's eager to start watching Season 6 when it starts. I don't get regular TV, though, so I'll just watch Season 5 while I'm waiting for 6 to be aired on Netflix.

I'm liking Saul a lot, but I am pretty low on the socio-economic scale. What I just finished was 'Fauda' Netflix series, I was riveted start to finish. Best urban close combat scenes imaginable. It's Jewish Hollywood, and in real life, no unit, no soldier could survive that much stress for long, but great entertainment IMO.
If you've cut the cord go to ustvgo.tv . You can stream AMC and a bunch of other channels for free, some of the the others require a paid VPN so I don't bother with those.FWIW.

Girls of the Sun ( Les Filles de Soliel ) Amazon Prime , French with English subtitles. Best thing Ive seen in months.
Thanks for the recommend. This was a good watch. In an interesting juxtaposition, the cinematography was maybe this films strongest element, but not at the expense of its intense subject matter.
Outer Range on Prime. I read a review calling it a cross between Yellowstone and Stranger things. Only two episodes so far but seems to be off to a good start.
watched a movie called "We Still Kill the Old Way"
Amazon Prime , British movie - punks in a gang kill an old guy in an alley, turns out he was part of a gang back in his day, they all get back together and wipe out the punks.
Won't win any awards but its entertaining on a slow night, especially if you are an old guy now.
"A Quiet Place Part II" is free on Amazon now. Watched it last night, it's okay if you liked the first one since it's basically more of the same. A few jump scares with a cliff hanger ending.
For those who care: It's an interesting premise and the monsters are formidable - fast and armored against normal bullets and can tear open cars and such but the danger is based on an entire population of people ignoring obvious methods of counterattack they learned very early on. Given one scene near the ending of this movie showing a previously undisclosed vulnerability (above and beyond the one the protagonists eventually use) they could all have been killed off within a few days of their arrival on Earth. They rush headlong at any noise so, without giving out any spoilers, they could be easily lead into environments they cannot cope with and which they cannot survive.
As a member of a predator species myself, that's the kind of stuff I think about when watching movies like this.

An interesting point about both part 1 & 2 is the girl, Millicent Simmonds, who plays the young daughter really is deaf.
Also John Krasinski starred, directed and helped write the screen play in part I and directed and helped write screenplay in part 2.

I kinda liked the first movie. I will have to watch this.
I finished Ozarks, terrible thrown together ending
Buddy had me watch metal lords, nothing to write home about.
The John Wayne Gacy series was watcheable, what a messed up individual.
Things are getting a little thin at Netflix, used to you could trip over all the good movies, hard to find now unless they have some older classics on.
I'm waiting on the next season of Mindhunter, thats the best thing they've put out yet.
The South Koreans make some great action films, both historical and modern-day.
THE GREAT BATTLE
A HARD DAY
THE WAR OF THE ARROWS
THE MAN FROM NOWHERE
NO TEARS FOR THE DEAD
ASSASSINATION
PIRATES
THE GRAND HEIST
THE SUSPECT
THE ADMIRAL
THE AGE OF BLOOD (don’t let the brief animation at the beginning throw you off)
All highly recommended.
Thanks. I pulled all these up and saved them to watch later, with the exception of Pirates, I couldn't find that one. The South Koreans have made some great stuff. The series Vincenzo was a great watch.

The Detective K series, three films, are worth watching too. Pretty funny as well as lots of chases…

I’m subscribed to Viki Rakuten. Have the app on my iPad and Amazon Prime. A lot of those may be available on YouTube as well, and there are other Asian online sites too, but Viki keeps track of your episodes and viewing history, plus has lots of tv shows from Korea, China, Taiwan, and Japan, all subtitled. Subtitling on YouTube is a sometime thing, as are complete series. Viki is about $90-$100 a year.
Funny, but my wife often gets to watch current shows from China on YouTube for free, before my stepdaughter can see them on pay tv in China.
If you like the classics, Prime recently added Ivanhoe as a 6 part series. It's over 20 years old but it follows the book closer than most movies do.
In keeping with the English classics, I like Midsomer Murders, also on Prime. If you're not familiar with the English style, it can take a while to get into them. They get a lot deeper with more mystery than the usual American blood and guts cop shows.
It is a good story well told with interesting characters about how the road to Hell is paved with good intentions. There was a good resolution and redemption for the main character. I was surprised to see the well known actors who showed up in smaller roles.
Amazon, "The Fare". A bit different, but if you don't fall in lust with the lovely leading lady, you ain't human! Indie movie shot in just 6 days and written/directed by the sweetie.

Looks good. I think I'll watch it. Seems like a Twilight Zone episode.
Fookin' season 6 of fookin' Peaky Blinders is now on Netflix. This is the final season, hopefully they wrap it up well and don't pull a Game of Thrones.
Fookin' season 6 of fookin' Peaky Blinders is now on Netflix.
Yep, lookin' fwd to it.
Just finished bingeing it. Decent ending, good trip from beginning to end, with typical twists and turns to get there. Only one contrived part at the end, but in context it makes sense.
Sucks ass. Way too much soap opera relationship shít, and endless side quests that just fill up time and don't do anything for the plot. Very annoying.

Yeah, they wrapped it up well. The resolution of the situation in Canada was an interesting twist that was well foreshadowed but still came as a surprise. The whole symbology of the final shot was also well done.
After finishing The Last Kingdom it had taken so long for all of the seasons to be released that I binged the first four again. Lots of stuff had been forgotten so it really helped fill in the whole story line. Might have to do that for Peaky Blinders.

Just finished The Hunt - a good satire on Freevee (Amazon). Warning - it does have commercials but I just mute them and do something else for a minute and one-half.
Basis of the plot is that the Elite hunt and kill the Deplorables.
Watched The Adam Project on Netflix last night and would recommend it.
Basically a time traveling fighter pilot from 2050 comes back to 2022 to set right something that the villain changed to make the world a terrible place, he meets himself as a smart mouthed 12 year old a couple of years after his (their) father died and goes from there.
Nothing earth shaking but an enjoyable PG-13 action/comedy romp suitable for kids or adults. Mostly bloodless violence, some swear words but no F-bombs that I remember, big on the themes of forgiveness and family redemption.
I'm interested in watching The Terminal List, an 8 part series starring Chris Pratt , scheduled for release this Friday on Amazon.
The hollywood reviewers are all shìtting themselves over it, calling it "right wing fantasy" and "dad action" and every other insult they can think of. Which means it ought to be pretty good.
The Hunt is free on Prime. Worth watching. In the tradition of Kill Bill, but with overtones about the political friction between "The Deplorables" and the elitist left in the US.

Based on a series of books by Jack Carr a retired SEAL. The books are excellent and several SEAL's are in the show and consulted in the making of it. Should be good.

Binge watched the Lost Pirate Kingdom last night. I guess you call it a docuseries, actors portrayal of real events - highlights the era of pirates, Hornigold, Henry Jennings, Sam Bellamy, Thatch (Blackbeard) and a few others - all eventually take up residence in Nassau. Brings out some interesting sidebars, like how slave slips were a big target for pirates because the ships were big, fast and well armed - so they played a role in disrupting the slave trade to North America pre-civil war.
bonus points for their inclusion of nekkid womerns
Just watched Groundhog Day free on Prime. Awesome movie. For years it was free on regular local channels. Then it became a classic, and got restricted for many years to rent only. I guess it’s been long enough that it’s free again.

Crushed the 8 show series in 2 nights. I wasn’t sure after watching episode 1 & 2. Meh, it was okay. Episode 3 was holy fûck, I’m hooked!

Good series. Now I want to read Carr’s books.

Going to give the show a try.
Heard him on a podcast, sounded like a douche. The host is a known douche so maybe it was in the air in the recording studio.

My good friend Kyle lamb did Jack's Danger Close podcast.
Watching a series on Hulu called ‘Mr In Between’ it’s only 3 seasons.
It’s about a security agent, more like a criminal thug, that is trying to help raise his 8 year old daughter and take care of a brother with MS while collecting money and ‘painting houses’, ie, killing people for a rich criminal.
Good acting. Has some humor, and there’s ass beatings and blood letting. All in a days work.
Based on an article on the internet, it sounds as if Woodhits and the Seal had a falling-out several years ago and are no longer writing together, after the first three books.
If you like the series, you should read the book. It's a one hill roller coaster with no bottom.
Further there are significant departures from the original storyline and plot, which are are even more interesting in the context of current events.
I have not read the book but I believe "Book Katie" was an analog for Katie Pavlich of Fox News fame.
She is pretty legit as a rec shooter, is a strong 2nd A supporter, and does some stuff in the industry. She has also done Carr's Danger Close podcast.
She did a cameo as the Fox News reporter on the TV screen in the series.
She is quite a bit better looking than the actress that played "Series Katie".
For those who haven’t watched Terminal List, Katy Pavlich is actually in two of the episodes. You gotta be paying attention to see her though. Playing a News Reporter on TV, of course. She’s only on screen for maybe 60 seconds in her two scenes.
Always thought she was one of the best looking FOX News girls.
Yep, very amusing and a good break from some of the more intense series that seem to get more "intense" with each season like Ozark.
I guess Breaking Bad was the template for that. Started out being believable but it seems as though they need to crank up the incredulity meter with each season to keep it "interesting."
I finished episode 4 of the Terminal List last night.
I thought the first two episodes were kinda meh, but episodes 3 and 4 have been more entertaining. He definitely enters into John Wick territory.
I keep reading about how this is anti-woke though. I'm not sure where there is the obvious anti-woke sentiment in the series. Is it because its Chris Pratt and hollywood doesn't like him on twitter? or is there more to this than I am aware?
I just finished the Terminal List. I agree about the first 2 episodes but it did get better. I had read the book so that maybe helped with all the stream of consciousness flash backs... over all a good series and the only one Amazon produced that I ever finished.
Way to much woke crap in their other stuff for me to watch more than a few minutes of. Maybe they will start to get the message.
Four eposodes into The Terminal List. Plus 1. I just heard about it a couple days ago, an interview on FOX. They were saying the woke critics hate it. LOL
He gets shot in the shoulder but apparently, his bones are impenetrable and don't shatter, he then carterizes the nonbleeding wound ruining the temper in his knife to do it.
Lets not even mention the thermal tracking then lack of it all at the right moments
If all that ain't fake enough he uses that shot shoulder the next day like nothing happened...
Believe me, anyone that has ever been shot knows that's a lot of BS. That wound would be so sore and painful, it's doubtful he could or would use it at all
But then it's a TeeVee show and not bad overall., and we will watch the last 2 episodes

Got his dick blown off.

Your talking a completely different time, it was the dick getting blown but I won't say who was blowing you might get angry
Watched Dave Chappelles (sp) latest thing on Netflix. Guy has a pretty cool take on art and his art form. Kinda refreshing.
His take on old school gays vs the current crop of millennial and gen Z gays is hilarious. Chappelle has mucho respect for anyone on either side of a glory hole.
Lonesome Dove free on YouTube. The whole miniseries:
Hard to beat!!!
“I hate rude behavior in a man. Won’t tolerate it”
I have tried to get through that about 3 different times over the years. I start thinking that was 10 years ago, maybe I'll like it now. Nope, I can't make it.
Wild Bill (The story of Wild Bill Hickok) is free on YouTube. Excellent flick. Hickok is played by Jeff Bridges. If you liked him as Rooster Cogburn in True Grit, you will like him in Wild Bill Hickok.
They take some liberties, particularly about his death, but otherwise true to the legend.
PS It's the PG version, so nude scenes of Calamity Jane are removed.

It was free on Prime a month or so ago. Pretty good flick. Jeff Bridges played the part well. Ellen Barkin is ugly anyways, so you wouldn’t miss much. Bridges will never top his Big Lebowski role, though.

The bashed in the face bar tinder should have cut that SOB into with a double-barreled shotgun.
Yes it is. Easy to spot, the way you insist on following me around Fa ggot.
Admitting you have a problem is half the battle, they say. But I’m guessing there’s no hope for you. Penis Envy Syndrome is hard to cure. 😂😂😂
Yet you honed in on the post . LMAO
While you just keep right on proving my point. Poor little lonely desperate Campfire Stalker. 😂😂😂 Maybe you can find some more butt hurt little cowards to hang out with on DemoRat’s Underground. Lots of losers like you over there with no life whatsoever. 😂

Just logged onto Netflix and there was a category, "Gritty" and found several new to me options to add to the list. Can't relocate it! That's my hot tip.
Watching Beirut from 2018. Seems ok so far.
Yes, Beirut is a decent flick. Not overloaded with bullchit.
Anchorman II (The Legend of Ron Burgundy Continues) was pretty funny. Some really stupid scenes and premises, but still funny. I had some belly laughs from it. It's free on Prime. Never saw it before. I remember when Will Ferrel appeared on Conan O'Brien to promote it, and that was pretty fun in itself, but I never saw it when it first aired. I'd have likely felt cheated if I paid for it, but for free, well worth it for the few belly laughs in it.
Some here. Matrix Lite? Why all the fantasy horsechit? They obviously had a budget and could have made an adult movie. We turned it off.
Continued it. Pure bullchit movie, however, with some good scenes. Might even watch the car/bus/train scene again. Better than the Wick nonsense, if that counts for anything? Sigh.

At least John Wick was better that that stupid ass Matrix schitt. Dumbest movie I ever saw besides for Dumb and Dumber.

The Wedding Guest was good. It might be a chickflick? It didn't have any magical assassin hotels and chit so you guys might not like it. Only two kills. My daughter asked if he's the good guy or bad guy? Hmmm.
Beirut was good enough. Some historical relevance.
Fear City, re NYC mob smackdown, is a pretty good documentary. Rudy is interviewed/central to the story of course and there's some Trump footage. What a damned mess there was!
Only Murders In The Building with Steve Martin and Martin Short. 2 seasons, each season is a different who done it story. Really well done and entertaining.
Blown Away, on Netflix. Three-season reality contest, about glassblowing. Think Forged in Fire but with glass blowers instead of knife makers.
Would make a hellacious drinking game, chug a beer every time someone says "Best in Blow" or "gloryhole."
Glassblowing is apparently the gayest activity on the face of the earth.
Laughing that it took you three seasons to call it the gayest activity on the face of the earth!
LOL
LOL it's a train wreck that's hard to turn away from. We made it through the first season and a couple of episodes of Season 2. I assume the rest of the series is more of the same. If you ever thought that some of the guys on Forged in Fire were kinda weird, these people are even more weird than that.
If anyone ever wanted to watch people say "glory hole" repeatedly in dead seriousness, it's the show to watch. My wife and I cracked up every time.

Do they go to Murano? If they don't, it's not worth the time.
I watched the woodstock 99 documentary a few days ago. This is the second one I watched about it, the first one compared 69, 94 and 99
this one really got into the weeds about what happened - specifically how they tried to make as much money as they could while cutting back on security and grounds keeping.
I'm not sure why anyone would have wanted to stick around in that to the end on Sunday night
Just finished watching the series 'The Bridge' on Hulu and thought it was pretty good. Crime drama on the southern border with a female detective from Texas (a little on the crazy side) teaming with male Mexican detective.
Watched “The Nice Guys” on Netflix tonight. Russel Crowe and Ryan Gosling play two 1970’s era Private Eye’s searching for a Porn Star that was supposedly murdered, but may still be alive. It’s more of a Comedy. Pretty decent flick for free.
In 1985, American DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena was kidnapped, tortured, and murdered by Mexico’s most notorious drug lords. Thirty-five years later, three former cartel insiders share unprecedented details. This is the story of Camarena, the drug cartel he infiltrated, and the narc who risked everything to discover the truth.
I think it was called Delicious , French with english subtitles, PBS through Prime. I have this funny habit of watching the background as much as the movie, it was pretty deluxe.
The Manti Te'o documentary on Netflix is really good.
Watched that whole it rained the other day. Pretty damn crazy! Poor guy just grew up isolated and never realized the world wasn’t a Disney movie. He was ripe for the picking.
Watching Hamburger Hill on Prime. Been many many years since I have seen it.
It takes place the week I was born and was made the year I graduated HS. Produced without computer magic. Interesting additional information is available if the interested looks into it.
Don't bother. The early episodes were slow but ok. After about the halfway point for the season though, 90% of the new characters introduced in each successive episode are gay and/or transsexuals.
Watched all six episodes of “Keep Breathing” at once on Netflix at a nephew’s house maybe two weeks back. One of those things you watch to see how it comes out.
Plot: A fast track NYC Lawyer is the sole survivor of a plane crash up North, has to survive and also confronts her past
Pluses;
1) For being thirtyish she is in really good shape. 2) The seriously messed up adult in her life is a woman, her mom. 3) The two men in her life, her father and her boyfriend, are both strong, stable, supportive individuals. 4) She gets unintentionally pregnant and doesn’t get an abortion. 5) Her efforts to survive are at least loosely based on reality.

I'm pretty sure I heard about it here, but I'm not gonna go through 78 pages to figure it out.

Here's the thing about a "Good Flix" thread. Most of us reading this will remember the name of the movie and not the review. We will also remember that we read about it on the "Good flics on Netflix or Amazn Prime".

Let's face it. You wouldn't know a good movie if it bit you in the ass.
Which is why you post up schidt reviews for schidt movies in an attempt to troll this thread.
It's a whole helluva a lot easier to find crappy movies these days, which makes things a bunch easier for you.

You can fùck right off with that whiny, bitchy gatekeeping bullshìt. I'm not trolling anyone. You clearly don't know what a troll is.
If you are so addled with dementia and/or monkeypox that you think (a) your silly-assed opinion is any better than anyone else's and (b) that you get to decide who is allowed to voice an opinion, then you can shove your Oscar statue for Most Insufferable Prick on the Internet into your gaping gash.
Just watched ‘The Bubble’ on Netflix. It’s a comedy movie made by Judd Apatow about Hollywood trying to make a monster movie during the pandemic in isolation.
Apatow totally poons on Hollywood and their stupidity.

What's funny, is that at this point, you are just TRYING to be a douche.
I'm pretty sure I heard about it here, but I'm not gonna go through 78 pages to figure it out.
If you guys haven't seen Taking Chance, it's fantastic. Kevin Bacon plays a Lt that volunteers to escort the body of a fallen soldier back to his hometown in WY.
Lump in my throat just thinking about it.
Geez, thanks for the tearjerker and I'm only half way through it.
Watched The Marksman on Prime last night. It's about a Texas rancher that helps an illegal kid flee from the cartel.
It had potential but pretty much sucks.
Liam Neeson, another foreign born actor that feels like he should voice his opinion about American politics, specifically the Second Amendment and gun rights in the US. Neeson hates guns, but happily blazes away with one in his movies making millions along the way. What an azzhole.
Have been watching Kleo on Netflix, about a female East German STASI assassin in the late 80's who gets thrown in prison by her own people on trumped up charges. When the wall comes down all political prisoners are released so she seeks revenge against the people who did it.
Really liking it so far, it has a good mix of action mixed with off beat humor. It's in German with subtitles but an English dubbed version is also available in the settings..

1. he tries to bribe a customs official in Guatemala with a documentary crew filming him 2. he gets off his boat in front of customs officials in the Dominican Republic with a pistol on him as soon as he arrives 3. he gets to go to Europe and instead of finding some country that has no extradition treaty with the US, he goes straight to Spain.
the man had many second chances to stay free and he screwed up every one of them
on top of that, he later admits he just made schit up for drama to spice up the documentary and the book being written about him.
They interview the survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Ground zero type survivors. Lots of footage of the after effects from the bombs and a primer on the mindset of Japanese civilians during the war.
Only a handful lived to tell their story and it's well worth the watch even though it will depress the schit out of you. LOL

I agree! To me this Guy was a Joke! I really don't care how much money he had! It went to his head like he was better than everyone else! Give me an old Timer who worked hard all his life and cared for his Family, Down to earth Real People!!!
Watched all six episodes of “Keep Breathing” at a nephew’s house maybe two weeks back. One of those things you watch to see how it comes out.
Plot: A fast track NYC Lawyer is the sole survivor of a plane crash up North, has to survive and also confronts her past
Pluses;
Sucks
We were on board with it for a bit but it seemed like they had to stretch it into additional episodes and the content just became uninteresting. Too much flashback to her disfunction and not enough in the present. Quickly tired of her relationship\childhood\parental angst that became the focus.
Day Shift, on Netflix. Action horror / comedy, with Jamie Foxx and Snoop Dogg. Basically a comic book type of popcorn movie. It was okay.
did they kill any black vampires?
my wife saw the preview and she said "looks like all the vampires they kill are white"
Nope, the bad guys were all whitey, if I remember right.
The latest Stallone movie, Samaritan, is not terrible. It's yet another comic book type of movie but it has a nice plot twist at the end. Stallone does a decent job in it. I think it's on Netflix or maybe Amazon Prime.
Seems like most of what they make now are the equivalent of 1950's "B" westerns with country music singers and gucci wardrobes 3yz3d I'd love to see some good ole Spaghetti Westerns e=& |equivalents made today. I enjoyed Old Henry. That's a western.
You will like it. Rated 85 by viewers on Rotten Tomatoes
Young couple struggling on their homestead in Montana after the Civil War. Donald Cerrone is the husband and Gina Carrano is the wife.
Will leave drscription there to not give the plot away, with just a little teaser. Gina Carrano is a badass..
Just found this trailer on youtube. Same story as 1930 and 1979 but apparently with a really big budget, and they speak German. Supposed to be released on Netflix October 28 so several weeks away but something I'll be watching for.
Bored today, too hot to do much of anything outdoors so luxuriating in air conditioning. I just went through all 80 pages of these movie/series recommendations and wrote down about 100 titles. I recently pulled the cord on network television and am enjoying a new 65" roku flat screen.

That’s offensive.
It is still funny. Post cereals couldn’t be out done so they memorialized the bombing with their new cereal called “Crispy Critters”

Read that book 50 years ago, this is a definite much see for me
It's not horribly graphic but is very difficult to sit through in parts due to all the f a g g o t r y. Unless you're kingston or Beaver you're probably going to fast forward a time or two. Creepy as fugk and really good acting.
David Jenkins plays the father. He does a great job. (Acting, not as a father)

^^^^SPOILER ALERT^^^^
This is hilarious.
I had a buddy at work tell me yesterday about how awful this show was. He said there was so much gayness in the show. I asked him WTF he was surprised? I mean seriously, he was a gay pedo cannibal, what do you think the fûcking show was going to be?
Last eve I saw a headline on a news site about how the alphabet people were upset that the Dahmer show was in their category in Netflix.
This required the obligatory screenshot and text to my buddy asking why the fûck he was cruising the alphabet people category.
Makes you wonder why anyone would watch that shît to start with don't it?
Silence of the Lambs is free on Prime. Just watched it. Been a few years, but I'm always surprised how much I enjoy it, even after having seen it several times.

Of course it is. Book written by a former SEAL who is a proud hunter and 2nd Amnendment supporter.
He is an adviser on the TV series.
He must have been out sick the day they showed an NCIS agent escorting a civilian journalist onto a military base and then inviting her to inspect a crime scene under investigation. Or how about the Army Ranger "rescue" of the SEAL team allowing terrorists to gather on the ridge above the waiting helos?
I loved Jack Carr's book series, which was accurately written. But this sh*t show on TV is a joke, not to mention being filmed in the dark.

I’m not surprised at all.
That movie was so hard to believe. I rookie FBI agent (female of course) just out of academy given a high profile seriel killer case and is allowed a personal relationship with him lol

It's been a long time since I read the book but IIRC the point of having the fresh rookie female was to intentionally take a different approach with Lecter. He was too smart to be "analyzed" by regular jaded agents and techniques. It worked and they kept milking it.
Now to your point the other stuff outside that specific useful interaction scenario is, as you say, a bit far fetched.
Unfortunately that is so far from how real life investigations work was difficult for me swallow but Ive done that type of work many years. But overall good fiction and read all of his books. Its better than 99 per cent of films put out now for sure

As a book I personally liked Red Dragon better. Having said that I think SOTL was a much better film than either Red Dragon version. (Manhunter/Red Dragon)

Steven Greer? Did you actually watch that? Evoke anything useful?
Aftershock - a documentary about the 7.8 earthquake that hit Nepal is worth watching. Documents the earthquake events from four locations including base camp on Everest. Its on Netflix
For anyone that has already watched it, I was wondering what your takeaway from it is.
There is a cultural stereotype that is hard to miss

That helpless, wealthy westerners are standing around waiting on helicopters while the poor locals are trying to accomplish something in the meantime?
On Prime, Britbox, I enjoyed the hell out of the British short series, "Sherwood", crime drama based on true events that began with the coal miners strike in the 1980's. Besides the plot line itself, it paints a pretty accurate picture of what happens when generations of workers and their families, in any industry, find themselves redundant overnight with the stroke of a government pen.
The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix. 10 part Netflix series that approaches the classic haunted house story from a different angle - what happens after the survivors escape?
Very good acting, some pretty spooky scenes. Kind of a slow burn, with a ton of flashbacks that are annoying at first, but once you figure out who all the characters are it gets easier to follow. And the spooky tension just keeps building til the very end.
Cujo is free on Prime this month. Great Stephen King Thriller. Up there with Pet Cemetery, but without the supernatural aspect. Hadn't watched it in years. Well worth the rewatching.
Land Of The Lost is also free on Prime. Funny, if you like Will Ferrel's style of humor.
Don’t suck on it. It ain’t about a policeman. It ain’t about a woman who romances two men and marries the policeman.
It is about a woman teacher who romances a male policeman who has a close friend. Except the policeman is more than close with his museum curator friend.
The woman is oblivious to the two men’s affair and marries the policeman who can’t let the museum curator go.
All three lives are destroyed in one fashion or another.

Thanks for the warning, I avoid gay schiitt like the plague
Do you like absurd westerns with lots of blood? Try 'The Harder They Fall' on Netflix. To start with, all the main characters are black. That's not totally out of line because it's estimated that 1 out of 3 real cowboys were black. After they were freed, many thousands went west, plus the freed slaves already in TX, and were hired on ranches to replace the thousands of young men who had died in the war. Many started going north with the cattle drives and then worked in states further north and west. Anyway, the shootouts are fun and there's no gay crap at all.

Keep sweet pray and obey documentary is gnarly Open range reminded me of Yellowstone, but with a sci-fi twist. But Nothing over the top. Peripheral is looking good so far. Boys is getting better every season. I think they nailed it, as in what some of the supers would do in real life. Saw someone mention zero zero zero. Good show. Reminded me of secario 1 and 2, which is a must Chernobyl on HBO was SOLID

Great review. Thanks. Also reveals how Mace died, which isn't easy to discover.
3 Texas Born Actors, who would have thunk it ? 🤪 Powers Boothe, Bill Paxton, and Libertard dumbass Matthew McConaughey. Of course, though, Paxton & Powers Boothe are both dead. Sold several guns to Matthew’s brother and nephew. One weird bunch right there.
^^^^No, it is the one about the war on the immigrants by a group of corrupt politicians and cattlemen. Filmed in Montana mostly, but meant to depict Wyoming. Losely based on the Johnson county war in the late 1800's .
Time waster, but good. Only finished first season though so far. Just started second season. Filmed in Turkey, with Turkish actors speaking Turkish. The dubbed English doesn't match the lip movements, and the subtitles don't match the dubbed English. But I still dig it, just ignore the subtitles. The dubbed English is far better. Lots of language, but no nudity, graphic violence, or homo crap.
Working my way through this series. Not sure what to make of it.
An English woman (Emily Blunt) is the lead with the companion is a retired US cavalry Pawnee scout.
In some way it reminds me of Lonesome Dove. I’m not sure why I feel that way.
I saw a behind the scenes video. They go into depth about set and costume design, but then they send a stage coach back and it’s driving through grass with not one wagon track.
Learned it was filmed in Spain.
I think I’m on episode 4. I think it’s worth watching. The two leads are very good.
Haven't read this whole thread so it may have been mentioned already. But if you like true crime documentaries "The Girl in the Picture" on Netflix was very good.
I just checked out the Warrior Nun on netflix, being bored. Surprisingly pretty cool little series, with a couple familiar characters. Some kick ass cool nuns for sure!
Wife tuned in to "Fort Bliss" the other night. Normally I wouldn't give something on the theme of a female soldier a look. Surprised me...storyline must have been written by someone 'been there, done that'. It really points out how coming home is harder than any mission, the sacrifices modern soldiers/families make. If you are the kind of guy who was made sad by the Chris Kyle clusterf...k, this movie will hit home.
' I haven't read the entire thread so this may have been mentioned already.
This is probably one of the best series I've seen since Mad Men. It's only seven episodes but it's very good. Anya Taylor-Joy is amazing. BTW, you don't need to know how to play chess to enjoy the show.
Watched Robocop free on YouTube last night. Hadn't seen it in many years. Even though they cut out some of the best scenes (for being too gory), and all the curses were changed out for nonsense words, it was fun to watch it again.
Much of this scene was cut out due to excessive gore yet, oddly, the clip below has all the gore included.
Local Dirt I thought I saw season 3 come up when I searched on prime to start rewatching. I might be wrong but at least the 21st isn’t far.
Prime will put a placeholder. I checked again online and it said the 21st.
FYI to all. Jack Ryan season 3 started yesterday.
Jack Ryan Season 3 appears to have been written, casted, and directed by a gaggle of 8th grade prep schoolers.
I was less than impressed, too. Giant letdown.
I'm thinking a university theatre group, the prep school I went to would have included smoking hot babes in a spy series!
Nina Hoss wasn't bad.
If you want to watch a good TV spy series, check out Homeland. You may get tired of watching the principal run around with her hair on fire from time to time and disobeying direct orders, like I did. But, overall it is much better.

Nina Hoss is a great actress and Homeland was good , especially when Marena Baccarin was around!
State of Grace was really good, even though I can't stand Sean Penn's politics! I chase him with some good whiskey! I just binged Treason on Netflix. It started out really slow for me but it got way better. Olga Kurylenko always intrigues me and she does not suck as an actress!
Series: Queens gambit was great! I enjoyed the new jack Ryan. I’d like to see some of you fu*ktards write something better. The recruit on Netflix reminds little bit of Jack Ryan. Speaking of crooked government series, Designated survivor was also good. Watched behind her eyes with the wifey, chick flick but it has great ending. Wife likes Peaky blinders, could never get into it. Chernobyl on hbo is a must. There always the classics like Ozark, braking bad.
Movie, ford vs Ferrari is excellent. Regret not seeing that one in the movie theaters
I’ve been watching ‘His Dark Materials’ on HBO. 3 seasons with 8 one hour episodes per season.
James McAvoy and Ruth Wilson star in it. High production value, cool story line, good supporting cast and acting. Lin-Manuel Miranda from the stage show ‘Hamilton’ has a role, but he’s awful as an actor. He should have stuck to the stage, imo.
Where the crawdads sing Netflix The glass onion Netflix
I watched WtCS last night on a wim. Did not think I would like it, but it was exceptional! Wives and girlfriends should enjoy it, but I am not an expert on that!
just watched a Russian movie on Amazon Prime called Siberian Sniper, if you can watch a movie reading English subtitles, its got an Enemy at the Gates feel to it. I liked it

Cunk on Earth , Netflix , You'll piss yourself laughing and learn a few things t'boot.
Philomena Cunk is brilliant. Next years Beaver Awards will see the great Kaywoodie relegated to a distant second place as the Fire's resident hysterian. Nobody, but nobody, can do deadpan humor better. I'd be curious as to how many video 'takes' had to be scrapped because the scientists and historians busted out laughing. Monty Python is pale watery schidt compared with Cunk on Earth.

Watched Super 8 free on Prime last night. I enjoyed it. It's like a horror/sci-fi version of Stand By Me. Basically, it puts the kids of Stand By Me in a horror/sci-fi situation. Well produced, acted, and good special effects.
Here's a not good flick on Netflix - Seven Kings Must Die. Well, it may be okay but I shut it off for reason to be revealed.
It's a two hour finale movie for the series "The Last Kingdom", which I really, really liked. If you don't know the series this next part won't mean anything to you.
Aethelstan, the son of King Edward, was raised by the main character, Uhtred, to be a brave warrior and wise future king, basically a good guy like his mentor Uhtred. At the start of the movie, Edward has died and now Aethelstan must assume the throne before his brother, who also has a somewhat legitimate claim to it.
Trouble is, Aethelstan has come under the influence of some warrior priest who is a conniving, manipulating type, pouring poison into Aethelstan's ear at every turn.
Okay, I can live with that, there were other conniving types in the series who got their just comeuppance. Then it's revealed that Aethelstan, the bad ass, morally strong young warrior from the earlier series, is having a homo affair with said warrior priest.
It was at that point that I shut the damn thing off.
after watching all 7 seasons of Bosch, (about to start Bosch Legacy on Freevee)
I've been looking for shows similar to it.
Before The Night Agent, we watched season 1 of Perry Mason. Now waiting for Season 2 to wrap up so we can binge watch it.
Started watching a show called Tree Pines - probably not many peoples cup of tea here - its kind of a Wind River meets Northern Exposure without any comedy, but I'm enjoying it because I think its well written.
The good thing there is no shortage of series similar to those to choose from on the various streaming options. We'll probably slow down over the summer but this winter we'll get back into the swing of it.
One thing about it though - someone mentioned it earlier, you have to see either some gay nonsense or racial horseshit in this stuff - hollywood writers can't write a show without the obligatory showcasing of that.
Last time I watched it, I was probably a kid, and all I remembered about it was that it was about a future with increasingly violent popular sports and cool scenes of battle and death.
Watching it today, I realized there was a lot of important meaning in it. It's a warning about a future dystopia, and it's the sort of dystopia that, in many respects, we are seeing the beginnings of right now.
Who else thinks most of what is produced now is almost unwatchable. Gratuitous “MF” bombs left and right, multiple woke sub themes, women trying to prove they are men and an attempt to include every left wing social construct? I got 5 episodes into the Diplomat and just couldn’t stomach it. The writers trash what, otherwise could be a decent show.
I got through about 25 minutes of it before giving up. Did I quit too soon? Was the ending worth the first half drag?
I thought it was a good movie , but some of my buddies called me mean names because they watched it said it sucked. Haha. It’s not a great movie, admittedly, but I thought it was cool.

Just watched the trailer. Looks pretty good. Could be the first 25 minutes is boring, though. I haven't seen it, but some of the scenes I've seen look pretty good.

Having read all of Bernard Cornwell's books....We gotta blame injecting this queer bullschidt scene on Hollywood. Cornwell is beyond a fiction author...he is an historian and history teacher. He attempted to enlist in the British Army 3 times, was rejected for eyesight...eventually he was awarded an OBE by the Crown for his service to truth in English History. Film makers can ruin anything.
On Netflix - 19-2 a Canadian cop series set in Montreal, good story of interactions among the cops in precinct 19. Not your usual solve a mystery every episode or lot of Go! Go! G0! and needless dumbass scenes.
downside, if subtitles bother you - it is spoken in French with subtitles, no dubbing.
Last time I watched it, I was probably a kid, and all I remembered about it was that it was about a future with increasingly violent popular sports and cool scenes of battle and death.

Was that the one with James Caan in it ? I remember watching it in HS.

Watched Super 8 free on Prime last night. I enjoyed it. It's like a horror/sci-fi version of Stand By Me. Basically, it puts the kids of Stand By Me in a horror/sci-fi situation. Well produced, acted, and good special effects.
I don’t know if it’s been mentioned yet, but The Devil All The Time on Netflix is a damn good movie. Not. Happy one, but absolutely well written and acted.

Blood and Gold on Netflix is pretty good for a eurotrash movie. The guns seem all period correct, to include a sweet scoped Mauser used to shoot a main character that put to mi d several posters here. It’ll make sense if you see it.

Thanks for the warning. We just finished the series and were going to watch the movie soon. I have had to turn several series off recently when Amazon couldn't let the homo stuff go.

I watched it the other night... not too bad... not too good either. It was worth wasting an evening on...
the wife and I watched "Cocaine bear" the other night (had to rent it)... we watched it since we live in Knoxville... I must admit going into it I assumed it would be a fun - stupid movie... It was... some of the stuff in it is hilarious as long as you do not try and take the movie serious in any way

We started The Diplomat on Netflix and are getting a kick out of it. It involves an idiot first-term President who has to be corralled and controlled by his handlers, and who has a female Vice President who is about to get outed in a scandal and forced to resign. The whole story line is about torture testing and vetting another potential female VP who doesn't have her own agenda, in order to replace the current VP and help the President win re-election next year. The language is no different than what I would expect to find anywhere in high office where the people aren't miked up or overheard by unsympathetic press. So far, so good. If it goes downhill, I'll stop watching and post here. But, the language doesn't scare me or seem anything close to implausible.
Someone mentioned Jack Ryan a while back, so I checked it out. I got through it, but man, what a strange way to write a story. Building characters so that they appear they're going to be pivotal, or at least consequential, only to discover that they're only in a couple episodes, and that they're simply peripheral characters seems strange to me. The plot was loose and unguided and ended up somewhere that wasn't expected, and not in a redeeming way.
On Apple TV, Tetris was a good movie based on true events.. When you don’t want to watch a whole series. Watched Ted Lasso with the wife. It was funny. Black bird was more of my style. Also Based on true story. Chernobyl on HBO is a must
The actor who played Uncle Adolf in that one did a hell of a job.
HBO Max has added all of the TLC/Discovery Channel junk to its streaming app now. You can't find an actual movie to watch now, but you can geek out to 24 seasons of How It's Made
Training Day is an oldie too. LA Confidential The Usual Suspects. Angel Heart! if you can find it. Lisa Bonet All the Old Knives is a current release that is very good if you like paradox in moral dilemma traps.

Those chįmp documentaries creep me out. Not much gives me nightmares, but them howling and screaming and ripping each other apart, and the monkeys they eat is nothing I want to see ever again.
Ghost Town with Ricky Gervais and Greg Kinnear is really good. I haven’t laughed so hard during a movie in years. I think it’s on Prime but it might be Netflix.
Wanted to watch the final season of Better Call Saul on Netflix but it's been so long since I'd seen season five I started from the very beginning again to watch it all the way through.
It made me realize (again) just how great that show is. Excellent acting and direction all around, writing, camera angles, everything. It sets the bar so high that when one of the actors is merely "good" they look bad in comparison.
The Forgotten Pistolero, on Tubi. A 1969 spaghetti western with a surprisingly good story. As far as non-Eastwood, non-Leone spaghetti westerns go, it's pretty high quality.
Another Taylor Sheridan creation. TV series. On Paramount+.
Planting female operators to befriend Arab women to get next to them so they can kill their boyfriends and husbands. With background stories.
Little of a "I am woman. Hear me roar" to start through 3 episodes. But it's way better than the rest of the dribble on tv.
Didn’t think I’d like it based on the premise. But on the recommendation of a friend I tried it and got hooked. Pro-life message even if you can believe it.
Band of Brothers and The Pacific both coming Sept. 15 on Netflix. Band of Brothers based on S. Ambrose book, The Pacific based on "With the old breed" by E.B. Sledge, the best combat account I have ever read and I've read a lot. I still can't get my head around what those guys gave for us.

Right? what a whiny little gash.
Episode 7 was pretty good.
Does she get shot in the face ??
No. I won't ruin the story except to say that she survives.
Constantine is now free on Prime. Great flick, if you like the genre, i.e., the war between heaven and hell breaking through into the physical world. There have been many movies made on the same theme, but this is perhaps the best of them.
Anybody watching "The Pacific"?...Fictionalized account of 1st marines, Soloman Islands grind, I'm not a huge fan of war flicks normally, but I can't seem to stop watching.

Sledgehammer in the series is supposed to be Eugene Sledge who wrote the book "With the Old Breed." Eugene Sledge was in the 1st. Marine Division and fought in the Pacific in some of the worst of it.
V For Vendetta is free on Prime. Way too familiar to us in terms of how our society is developing. The only thing it gets wrong is that those who impose the tyranny target homos and non-Christians. They got it exactly backwards.

"The Pacific" is based on two books written by men who were there. My Helmet for a Pillow by Robert Leckie and With the Old Breed by Eugene Sledge.

after that series, I bought both of Sledge's books. He was pretty honest about his post war adjustment. A whole generation of men dealing with that schit after the war. I haven't had the chance to read Leckie's book.
My old man fought in the Pacific . He didn't talk much about it , hardly at all, but he did tell me a couple of stories about fighting. I saw those stories come to life while watching the Pacific.
I was stationed on Okinawa at White Beach in '66. The gun caves, bunkers and pillboxes were just too tempting for young GI's, even though at orientation we were threatened with automatic Art 15 for souvenir hunting or exploring. Short story, those holes were inhabited by large populations of "habu" pit vipers. I found out the rumors about the habu were true, they are very aggressive and do come after you, ignoring your bamboo snake stick. No souvenirs, but saw enough old ordnance to put a full stop on exploring. I cannot imagine the task of rooting the Japs out of those holes. Better man than I Gunga Din.
Just watched that this week. I lost my best friend and hunting partner to an accidental oxy od about a a dozen years ago. He was given them after knee surgery. Watching that show helped me understand it a bit better.
I've had to go through the withdrawals with all the surgeries and health issues I've had so it was terrible to watch the guy going through them.
They gloss over things a bit too quickly but it is pretty good. Explains how quickly Joe Schit the Ragman can end up doing really messy work for his government.
settling in with Major Dundee tonight. Its the original version, not the extended one.
Heston is tailor made for that role though
Reading about it.....
The production of the movie was very troubled. Peckinpah was often drunk on the set, and was supposedly so abusive towards the cast that Heston had to threaten him with a cavalry saber in order to calm him down: he even charged Peckinpah on horseback at one point, leading the director to panic and order the camera crane he was working on to be raised fast. Peckinpah also fired a large number of crew members for very trivial reasons throughout the shoot. Columbia studio executives feared that the project was out of control, and that Peckinpah was too unstable to finish the picture, so they cut the shooting schedule of the film by several weeks. Heston gave up his entire salary for the film in order to keep Peckinpah on the project – a gesture rarely equaled in Hollywood history. However, while the studio said it forced Peckinpah to wrap up shooting very abruptly, Heston alleged that towards the end Peckinpah simply became drunk and wandered off the set leaving Heston to finish directing the final scenes himself

Yep. Damn good Series. Not quite as good as Band of Brothers, but almost.
I finished watching the Patriot series a few days ago. A few holes in it, but good acting, especially the lead.

Agree. I thought it’d be great, given Beerfest and Super Troopers. But it was fûcking stupid.

Watched this last week, me and the wife were like fiddlesticks. It didn’t take much for them to start capping people. Alright guys we have to execute 500 Jews tomorrow before dinner. Now if you don’t want to participate step forward, 98% of them figured they didn’t have anything else better to do and decided shooting Jews in the back of the head was better than cleaning pots and pans.
Just started second season of Tin Star on Prime. Very…….odd. They take a long time to explain things but by the end of season 1 I figured I have to finish it now.

Watched "Made in America" last night, dramatic film of of real life pilot, Barry Seal. Flew for CIA in Central/South America. Didn't sugarcoat the screwups by the 3 letter agencies. Good film IMO.

Good movie that flew under the radar, no pun intended. Noticed it showed backup on my lists this week.

It was a great film that tied all the Stuff going on behind the scenes about what the media let out about the Iran Contra affair. Ya got to love the just say no scene.
It's Pelosi's daughter's daughter's pathetic attempt at film making. She finds people from January 6 that are willing to speak with her. They are some of the biggest losers you could ever find on the planet. It's akin to listening to Sycamore and eyeball make "points" with one another.
Master and Commander is on Amazon Prime. One of the best war movies ever made. They don't make em like that any more.
If you like Master And Commander, you might want to look at the Horatio Hornblower books by C.S. Forrester. Master and Commander is practically an exact copy of one particular book in the group.

I read all those Hornblower books many years ago, when I was a young boy. One of the very few series I enjoyed in the local public library. Good stuff. The old movies with Gregory Peck were pretty good too.
Anybody watched Taylor Sheridan’s “Bass Reeves” series on Paramount + yet ?
It’s on the shortlist. Any good?
Started off kinda slow, Gruff. The 3rd episode is the best so far. It has Dennis Quaid & Donald Sutherland in it. And Paula Malcomson. She’s the Irish actor that played the prostitute, Trixie, in “Deadwood”. The English actor portraying Reeves has been believable so far.

Like everything Hollywood does, this is pretty PC portraying Bass Reeves as a great humanitarium. The real Bass Reeves was a hard ass, he had to be. Get cuffed and ride in the wagon or get shot, those were your choices. Bass Reeves didn't have much luck with his kids in real life. He had three boys and I think all three of them went to prison. It will be interesting to see how the series portrays his kid's lives.
Older series but damn you ain't making that today.
Just started that the other day. It’s good!
"Ripper Street" is another in the same vein, police show set in 1890's London shortly after the Jack the Ripper murders.
It used to be free on Netflix but they removed it so now it's buy or rent only on Amazon and other streaming services, but if it ever comes back to some free service it's definitely worth a look.
The trailer is over the top but the show has a good story line overall with high production values. The main character in the middle has a "descent into darkness" arc that runs through all four seasons.
This movie was a surprise. I don’t typically watch ‘scare flicks’. I do like them, though.
Meg3n, had a lot of solid reviews, so I gave it a watch.
Kids parents die in a car accident. Kid goes to live with her Aunt who’s single, works as a computer engineer for a toy manufacturer, and lacks parenting skills.
Aunt builds a life sized, kiddy robot, (Meg3n) for her company to capture market share at Christmas. The robot, during testing at the aunts house, helps the kid adjust to her life without her parents.
Meg3n, the bot, using her fast learning capabilities starts fûcking people up.
Good gawd the hours invested..... Five seasons of Seal Team on Paramount+ via Prime. Could be worse, but damnit, get back in some action! Critical me says wayyy overuse of lingering red mist. LOL Kudos for older gear during old flashbacks... Hmmm
Got on Paramount+ for Pacific War in Color. Pretty well done.
Lessons in Chemistry and Ted Lasso, both on Apple TV. Both are very well written and acted. Predictably they both have some woke undertones, but not too in your face about it.
There is a pretty big list of things I want to watch but we've been holding off until after Xmas for those nights when its so cold you don't want to do anything else but sit in the recliner by the fire.
This is the last day for the Hulu black friday deal, 99cents a month for 12 months. Cancel anytime, this is for the movie/tv version with ads, not the hulu live.
Heck, if you find a few good movies or tv series to watch on its worth 99c a month.
The Outsider, on HBO Max. A mini series with a really good story (a supernatural thriller from Stephen King).
The only problem is, HBO spent about $1.98 on the sound and lighting. The dialogue sounds like it was recorded on a Radio Shack cassette player from 1987, and the lighting is murky even in broad daylight. At night time, forget it. And there are way too many scenes taking place in unlit rooms. It really takes away from what is otherwise a good tale.

Sounds awesome
It's actually a damn good story. Basically a murder mystery whodunit, with the lead cop trying to come to grips with his suspect doing things that are impossible for normal humans to do. We are going to watch it all the way through despite the sound and dark lighting being annoying.
Watched a "comedy" on Prime the other night. "Arizona". If you can see beyond the obvious plot, it was a very remarkable comment on the 2008 mortgage crisis, the self indulgent people who were sucked in by it, the get rich quick flipping houses crowd, the piracy of the crooked lenders... Won't win any prizes with the film critics, but it is a pretty profound piece on a period of Americana we'd just as soon forget. Sad, funny, definitely thought provoking, and violent.
There is a pretty big list of things I want to watch but we've been holding off until after Xmas for those nights when its so cold you don't want to do anything else but sit in the recliner by the fire.
World War II: From the Frontlines on Netflix. I believe someone else mentioned it before on this thread and it stuck in the back of my mind to check it out. It is a documentary that is quite good, telling many stories of individual experiences. And, it is all in color.
Saw a film the other day about a young man abandoned by his mother, his father is a workaholic and never home, but his father's second wife has a great deal of compassion for the lad and provides him the warmth and love he truly needs.
It's a short film, only about 15 minutes, and told in first person from the young man's perspective. Very lean writing and a somewhat sparse plot, the story develops quickly and has a very satisfying conclusion.
I'm not sure what channel it's on but apparently is available on several free streaming services. Also not sure of the exact title but it has the word "Stepmother" in it. Maybe something to do with railroads, or railed? Anyway, it was good enough to watch again.
Added: Apparently there is a sequel featuring the young man's relationship with his stepmother's biological daughter. Might have to watch that one as well.

All seasons of Northern Exposure are now on Prime for those interested.
Last time I looked, you had to buy the seasons or episodes. I’ll check again.
I finally rented the new Mission Impossible, Dead Reckoning, and the newest Indiana Jones flick on Amazon. $5 bucks each. The Indiana Jones movie was just OK. Not near as good as the others, though. The Mission Impossible flick was pretty damn good.

I don't care what you had to check LAST time. If you are a Prime member, all seasons are there, free of charge, other than what your prime membership costs.
I'm sorry you had a difficult time comprehending what I typed.
I'll recommend this with a caveat since it's probably not everybody's cup of tea.
Blue Eye Samurai on Netflix.
Set in 1600's feudal Japan where they've closed the country to all outsiders and outlawed all foreigners, it's about a half Japanese half Caucasian girl who is considered a monster due to her blue eyes. Her life is devoted to seeking revenge on one of four men in the country who might be her father.
It's animated beautifully but it's not a kids show - lots of graphic nudity, sex, and more blood and gore than a whole season of the Walking Dead. A lot of it is pretty dark, as in darkness of the human soul.
This could have been a trite invincible girl boss series but there are no one dimensional people here, everyone has an interesting story arc. One thing I didn't like was the plot armor in the last few episodes, earlier in the series she gets the crap beat and stabbed out of her and it takes days or weeks to recover, later on she shakes off crippling wounds in a few minutes, but that's about all I can think of to criticize it.
I like good stories well told and this was one of them.
Skip straight to 0:45 to get past some unimportant fluff.

LMAO. No matter which SockPuppet he uses, ole Steelhead’s shows his ass eventually.

The stepsister didn't have as much experience in taking care of the stepbrother's needs, so the stepmother had to step in and give her on the job training...

The Queen's Gambit is a 2020 American coming-of-age period drama streaming television miniseries based on the 1983 novel of the same name by Walter Tevis. The title refers to the "Queen's Gambit", a chess opening. The series was written and directed by Scott Frank, who created it with Allan Scott, who owns the rights to the book. Beginning in the mid-1950s and proceeding into the 1960s, the story follows the life of Beth Harmon (Anya Taylor-Joy), a fictional American chess prodigy on her rise to the top of the chess world while struggling with drug and alcohol dependency.
Netflix released The Queen's Gambit on October 23, 2020. After four weeks it had become Netflix's most-watched scripted miniseries, making it Netflix's top program in 63 countries. The series received critical acclaim, with particular praise for Taylor-Joy's performance, the cinematography, and production values. It also received a positive response from the chess community for its often accurate depictions of high-level chess, and data suggests that it increased public interest in the game.
The Queen's Gambit won eleven Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, becoming the first show on a streaming service to win the category. The series also won two Golden Globe Awards: Best Limited Series or Television Film and Best Actress – Miniseries or Television Film for Taylor-Joy. She also won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie.
Beau is Afraid was pretty good, a little out there. Basically an adult Joquin Pheonix has a overbearing mother to the point she has employees everywhere keeping tabs on him and she makes him feel guilty at every turn. Crazy plot twist at the end.
The stepsister didn't have as much experience in taking care of the stepbrother's needs, so the stepmother had to step in and give her on the job training...
I saw this on pornhub a few weeks ago
dammit, I just saw someone said that already. I hate being late on a joke
All seasons of Northern Exposure are now on Prime for those interested.
Thanks for the heads up, that was a good show.
Have been watching this again starting from Season 1 Episode 1.
I had forgotten what a nice little TV show it was. Doesn't go for cheap humor, it's more understated, no mean spirited drama, just a bunch of interesting characters. I also had forgotten how cute Maggie is.

Mostly watch documentaries these days. Most anything else isn't our thing. Movies just almost all suck these days but I digress.
Watched Muscle Shoals on prime the other night. That was good. Watched Amorian? last night about raising a Russian sub in the 70s by the CIA. Took 6 years to prep for that. Watched a bit on Easy company.
The documetary type stuff just is way more interesting to us than fiction stuff these days.
You Tube has quite a few too and we follow a few on there. Simple Living Alaska is one. They are always learning but kinda cool to watch as they learn. There is the one guy in Canada, My Simple Life. Talk about mostly relaxing. He is always building something. Rare for him to talk, though he spoke more in the last ones we have seen than before. But just silence. Music and watching him create something or film outdoors is just cool and relaxing.
This thread is getting very long so I don't know if this one has already been mentioned.
This one is on Netflix. In fact, IIRC, it was the very first show of Netflix Original programming.
Lilyhammer
Lilyhammer is a crime comedy-drama television series starring Steven Van Zandt about a former New York–based gangster named Frank "The Fixer" Tagliano trying to start a new life in isolated Lillehammer, Norway. The first season premiered on Norwegian NRK1 on 25 January 2012 with a record audience of 998,000 viewers (one fifth of Norway's population), and premiered on Netflix in North America on 6 February 2012, with all eight episodes available in full for streaming on the service. Lilyhammer was promoted as "the first time Netflix offered exclusive content".
The spelling of the series title alludes to Tagliano's dog Lily, killed in the first episode during an attempt on Tagliano's life, and the way that Tagliano and some other anglophones pronounce the town's name. The series produced three seasons; the final episode aired 17 December 2014. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilyhammer
Payback, free on Prime, starring Mel Gibson. Highly recommended.
Oddly, although James Coburn had a pretty solid role which he performed admirably, you won't find him listed as a cast member. He's uncredited. Can't find out why.
Watched 999 last night. Good and bloody reminder to stay out of Atlanta.
IF you can stomach Ken Burns, the PBS Documentary channel has a damned good 2 part docu on the American Buffalo. A LOT of information I'd never seen before. Well worth the free trial. There's some American shaming, duhh.
All seasons of Miami Vice are on Amazon. Actually on "Freevee" which is available on Prime so it has ads but if you miss the big hair and 80's cool, it's there. It's also on Tubi with ads if you get that channel.
I don’t know if it’s the same book. Shogun reminds me of The Last Samurai movie. That’s one of my favorite movies. It even has one of the same main actors (Japanese) as the TLS. He’s one of the main characters in Shogun series.
$7.75/ea of my money and 1:45 of my time I'll never get back.
Don't waste your money or time.
Might be worth its own thread. Been wondering since it was announced how it’d be.
Gruff, trust me. Don't bother. A couple battle scenes are ok. But, not worth sitting through the whole movie for. I guess if you were streaming it for free and wanted to fill up a couple hours down time, it would be ok for that.

Thanks for the heads up. Since I saw the trailer, had been mainly wondering how the breakdown of who the good guys and bad guys were portrayed in the flick.
Fallout on amazon prime is pretty damn good! Also shogun on FX is real good.
Just watched most of episode one. Can't get through it. Too much woke indoctrination.
WTF are you talking about its based off a video game. I saw nothing far as "woke indoctrination" Your title of king dipchit is well earned at times lol.

I'm 3/4 of the way through episode 1 and I haven't seen even a drizzle of wokeness, either.
You guys have grown blind to wokeness, due to swimming in it daily. Stop consuming modern mass media entertainment for a year, then go back to it, and you will see it plain as day.

Oh boy,,, ok Mr I don’t consume modern mass medoa everyday. Give us some examples of this wokeness you saw in the first episode.

OJ Made in America was pretty good I thought. I remember the trial and the verdict being announced but I was still pretty young. Guy was guilty as sin.

One episode left to finish fallout. I never played the game so I wondered how hard it would be to follow the storyline without k owing the lore. A la The Witcher. So far so good. I think it’s great.
