It has been many, many years since I have been around Davie. Can anyone give me some background on the place especially around Nova Southeastern University?

Thanks

Thanks

I used to live there, back in the late 1980s. I imagine it's a bit different now. Back then, it was quite rural. Easy drive to Ft. Lauderdale, though. When I left, they were doing major upgrades to the I-595 overpasses. There was a really great place there for BBQ where you saw the pit where the pork was cooking over the wood, and they'd take it out of there and cut it up right in front of you. Best BBQ I ever had. Can't recall the name, but who knows if it's still there. It was almost always crowded, for good reason.
You will need to be fluent in spanish or some south american dialect.

Damn, I guess it really has changed. It had the ethnic/cultural flavor of a white, rural, Georgia, region when I was there. Thirty years can really change things.
Lived there in the mid ‘80s...whatever charm it had has long since departed.
It is in the southeastern part and infested with New Yawk yankees and south American imports---YUK!!
Sako',

Not sure what you're looking to know but it's a densely populated area. About 30 minutes or less from anything. Really bad traffic can change that but that's a learning curve for most any suburb. The BB&T is close by as is the Hard Rock Casino. Marlin's park and the Dolphins Stadium is just a hop and skip.

Decent schools in the area. Still plenty of Floridians there.

Housing is relative but I think most people would consider it a bit spendy. A 3/2 in a nice non-HOA neighborhood will be in the $400-$500K range. Of course a steal or ass raping can always be found.

The area itself isn't bad as far as crime but you're close enough to Miami that the potential for a meany-head encounter is always very real.

Ramps into the Everglades are just to the west. If you want to be on the salt, it's just to the east. Most any shooting sport is popular in the area and there are plenty of matches to attend.

Lots of good food and entertainment.

Others have been in this area longer and I'm sure they could offer more better advice, but these are my thoughts.
My son has been accepted to Med School at Nova. He is on the waiting list for a few other schools too. I will be helping him move there if that's the school he ends up in so I want to see what he is getting into.

He is an outdoorsman and into shooting.

My mom and dad lived in Sunrise before passing away. Still have relatives in CoralSprings and Boyton Beach. It's been a while since I have been in the Davie area

Are you kidding?

Unless the other offers are at the fugking Playboy mansion I think this conversation is over.
BAHAHAHA. Are you saying he will like living there for the next 4 years?

It's an expensive area.

Thanks for a detailed reply deflate.

Bro.

Like mana from the heavens.

(full disclosure, I don't really know what mana is)
Hey Dave
Mana is bread.

Oh.

If that's the case I'd like to change my response to Sako'.
Some good fishing in the local canals, I've killed scores of Iguana with blowgun and bow just a few miles from Davie. We stay at an awesome VRBO there once or twice a year. Got my kid a gator in the Glades...That's all I can take of FL...

It won’t matter what he’s into because he isn’t going to have time to do anything anyway. Med school is pretty much all consuming.
Davie, Southwest Ranches, Pembroke Pines, all pretty much the same. All in Broward County, the last place in Florida I would want to live. Bad traffic, way too many South Americans and blacks, high taxes, rabid cops.......
Ouch... buzz kill.

He is going there for 4 years to medical school. There are thousands of applicants, a few hundred interviews and less than 100 seats. I guess he can be more picky when he is a doctor
Sako,

Samantha has posted many times that whatever he doesn’t have, sucks. LOL

Congrats to your son by the way.

If he does make it down here let me know and I will take him out for drinks.

Travis
Thank you Travis!

Then why even post the thread?
Mannlicher reminds me of the adage:

If you think that one of your neighbor is an ass hole, he might be an ass hole.

If you think all your neighbors are ass holes, you are probably an ass hole.

Crime is moderate and been declining. Seems like a decent place to live.
