One of the local Fire Chiefs here was burning a bunch of brush on his property, it got a little out of hand and he melted the the siding on the neighbor's house. Not kidding LOL.
LOL I did that to the siding on one end of one of my sheds. Never thought it would get that hot and didn't notice it for a very long time.
Fire happens!

Was a burn permit required?

Does not take much heat to destroy vinyl siding. Around here it is the pretty white vinyl fences you see all melted and twisted when someone got to close burning weeds out of an irrigation ditch. Or shattered all to Hell when a car slides off the road and goes through one in subzero temps.
No biggie, it happens much more often than one would think. I know of a firefighter doing something similar that started a fire that caused a few million dollars in damages.

The title made me think this would be more like a fire I responded to. A probationary firefighter got into a squabble with another probie over some imaginary slight. The first probie had a party in which the second attended. After a few drinks #2 got himself thrown out. #2 then made a Molotov cocktail and threw it through the front picture window. After all was said and done, probies #1 and 2 were both fired and one of the classmates got a good deal on the home from the insurance company.
