There is currently some intense solar activity, I think. That often plays hob with things electric.

I actually made a mobile phone call yesterday - only the second one since buying this phone 18 months ago. (Had to tell SWMBO I was running late coming home from fishing.) Was relieved that the Bluetooth thing in the car worked. No probs with Verizon.

Yeah, a solar flare from China and/or North Korea.

Edit to add: According to news reports, it was a Denial of Service hack attack. Just one such report HERE

Here is what happened:

T-Mobile was making some IP changes in their network. The work went horribly wrong, propagated through their network, and brought down voice and data services for 12 full hours.

Anyone calling a T-Mobile subscriber from any other brand phone (AT&T, Verizon, Etc) would have heard fast busy, or recording, or dead air. So THEY were reporting issues as well. It took a while for the other players to clear their networks and work through the backlog of tickets. Hence, the early reports it was wide-spread across multiple carriers.

But now is is clear was was no DDOS attack, it was limited to T-Mobile, and it was human error. FCC Chairman Ajit Pai is on the warpath. Heads will be rolling and likely millions in fines levied for the outage.

Our Verizon phones work well here, A tower is a quarter mile away.

We have a Verizon tower within 1/2 mile of us, too, but we still get only 2 to 3 bars of service. We sit in a low spot so it's not quite line of sight.
