HI I bought some TUL 308 ammo and when I shoot it in my Encore it will not fire the first time I pull the trigger,, I have to recock it then it will fire.all the time. but never on the first trigger pull.. American ammo and my reloads all work on the first trigger pull. Is that a normal problem with cheap TUL ammo steel cases.. it is accurate and I bought it as an emergency stash. should I replace the hammer spring in my Encore or find a cheap 308 rifle (Miltary) ? it seems to be well sealed and would be good for long storage... what say you all ?

Tula ammo has some inconsistencies with the seating of the primer depth. Firing pins that are somewhat short can have issues with the ones that are set deeper. I changed the firing pin out in my Mini 30 to one measuring .042 and it now shoots steel cased and Russian ammo without fail. You’ll hear people say the berdan primers are harder, maybe some but the issue could be with your firing pin being a touch short for that ammo.

Could the cases be a little short?

I gave renegade50 some deep primer seated 308 reloads so he wouldn’t kill my 10 pointer. 😃

I just miked everything out, and the TUL ammo cases is 10 thousands short. so I guess I will try to find a bolt action rifle that will shoot them. or put some BLUE tape on the necks...

Time to shop for an AK or SKS.

I've been shooting Tula in my AR 7.62x39 uppers. The uppers are from PSA and have what they call 'enhanced firing pin' Meaning they are a tad longer.

I believe the reason for the hard primers in the soviet ammo is due to the real possibility of slam-fire in the SKS rifles in particular. Not sure where the AK stands regarding slam-fire.

I shoot TulAmmo in my AR10 without ever having a fail to fire.

I can't imagine being able to afford an AR-10 but not being able to afford decent ammo.
