Any tricks to mark the inside of scope rings so they don't get swapped around and misaligned? I'm having the rings BlackNitrided along with the rest of the rifle, so any kind of marking paint would not survive the process. .

I'm thinking I could just grind a little mark on both ring halves (Burris steel rings) while they're correctly assembled, but maybe there's a better way? Thanks!

I use a sharp pointed piece of metal - anything that will make a scratch - and on the front ring make one scratched line on the left inside "flat" where the two halves meet, two scratches on the rear. That way I know the orientation of the ring, front to rear, top and bottom.

I use light center punch marks. Front ring, on the flats where the rein and cap goes together, one punch mark on cap and one on the bottom, On the rear ring, 2 punch marks close together on the flats of cap and bottom. I use this method on my Ruger rings to keep cap and bottom orientation correct. RJ

Thanks. I have both a carbide scribe and a center punch. The center punch came out a little neater, so that's what I used.

This is an ideal application for an automatic center punch. They can be “turned down” to produce a light strike.

You could mark the side where they screw together inside ... one dot for the rear, 2 dots for the front on the same side (right or left) so you can get the re-oriented front and back facing the right direction. For that matter a F & R if you can find a really small set punches.
