I have a Winchester Model 50 12 gauge barrel with a Poly-choke. Would it be possible to remove the Poly-choke and drill/tap the barrel for screw-in choke tubes? The current barrel throws a poor pattern and I would like to replace the existing barrel with a fixed choke barrel or perform the modification to my existing barrel as described here. Thoughts? Model 50 barrels can be found but they are not too plentiful…..

It all depends on the dimensions of the M-50 barrel. Many Winchester M-12 barrels are too thin to accept any choke tubes and I’m afraid M-50’s may be the same story. If you can accurately measure the ID and OD of your barrel, the Brownells catalog has information about what the required dimensions are for the various choke systems.

I know Briley makes a "Thin Wall series" choke that can be used in barrels that are too thin to accept a standard choke. Not sure if your barrel would work or not, worth a call to Briley.
