722 222rem ejector pin - 24hourcampfire

First off, I am no gunsmith, however, looking at my ejector pin in my Remington 722 222Rem, it does not seem correct.
1. The ejector pin is straight, like a dowel, believe they are stepped to a smaller diameter approximately 1/3 of the way from top to bottom. It is exact depth of the recess for the ejector pin.
2. There is a depression for the retaining pin in the ejector pin, but only large enough for the retaining pin. I believe this is to be a channel to allow the ejector pin to slide in and out, with spring tension.
3. Last but not least, there is no spring in the ejector pin recess.

Any ideas? Yes, I've been researching purchasing a new ejector pin and spring, but can not find one. Will other ejector fit? Or talk to a machining buddy to reverse engineer a new ejector pin?

The ejector pin is stepped to keep the extractor from turning in the bolt face. Dale

Any would work but for the 222 size head you need the stepped pin. If need be you could easily alter the 308 style pin with a little grinding. Dale

Is it possible that the spring is frozen/stuck down in the hole? If there’s truly no spring it sounds like someone took the ejector out and lost the spring.

Just checked my PTG bolt in 223 face and it has the stepped ejector pin. I use this in a 722 action but it is also slotted for a 700. Dale

Thank you all. I have checked inside the ejector hole of the bolt, and do not feel or see a spring. The hole measures the same depth as the current pin at flush with the bolt face. Which also aligns the groove of the ejector to the ejector pin,, with no slot cut for ejector travel against spring tension. I will attach pics later, as well try to source another ejector and spring as mentioned above.

sure sounds like someone swapped ejector pins so they could pick the brass out of the action instead of tossing it out across the ground, sounds handi for a bench gun.
