What type FFL do I need? The plan is to build rifles on customer supplied receivers and return the completed rifles to the owner.

I think the type 01 FFL would allow this.

Oh, yep. Once again, search engines are your friend. Along with going to the source.

Yeah, the source will steer you wrong. Do your homework, read THEIR regs. 01

Get a class 07 manufacturer and never look back. I have had one for 38 years.

Not sure what a couple posters are saying here, so listen to this and take heed!

The official FAQ from BATFE has many totally wrong answers in the rundown.

Maybe even your options.

I do not think a manufacturers FFL is needed if using the customer's serial# receiver, but I could be wrong. A basic "gunsmithing" FFL should do it. It's been a couple decades since I've had an FFL, so do your current homework..

I gave up on my basic FFL about 1980. My brother had a manufacturing FFL, sold mostly through shotgun news. His FFL wasn’t any more difficult or expensive to renew than a basic FFL. If I were to get another FFL I’d get one that would cover all the possibilities.

After some research and talking to guys here I don’t see a downside to the type 07.
