Is raising the rib on a shotgun bbl (Beretta O/U) something that can be done with results that don't leave it looking worse than it started out?
Any recommendations on who's up to the task?
Raising due to POA, or removing a dent?
Sorry, should have been more specific - removing a dent.
I’ve had Ahlman’s in MN repair shotgun ribs and the results were very good.
Usually fairly simple job. Need to have two clamps over the rib in front and behind the dent. Us a wedge of some type to force the dent up and not break the rib loose from the barrel.
This is what you need, I have one you can borrow if you cover shipping.
Shotgun Rib Straightener
A Beretta o/u rib is normally a solid type rib with vents cut in, not individual posts attached to the barrel like the Remington shown with the tool. The wedge will work well on this rib, no need to clamp on either side of the dent. I make small brass wedges and use two, one from either side, stacked. Then use a clamp to force the wedges together so the dent comes up evenly.
I use plastic/composite wedges that are made to shim doors/windows. They are tough but non-marring and can be ripped to any width needed.
