Planning to bed a Bansner stock for a Remington 700. Being that these stocks come unfinished, I’ll need to add some compound around the tang, not only to bed it but also fill in some around the edges and rear to make it look perfect. Anyway, is there a bedding compound that is sandable and paintable? If the typical bedding compounds won’t hold paint well I guess I could bed with one material and then fill in any visible low spots with another material? Any suggestion on what to use for the filler in that case?

Thanks,
Mike
ProBed 2000 is one. -Al
Devcon can be sanded and painted.
Most epoxies can be sanded and painted once cured.
I've been known to fill small voids and low spots with good ol' Bondo, especially on the early Brown Precision stocks.

That said, all of the bedding materials mentioned as well as Acra-Glass/Gel are sandable.
Acraglas or Acragel.
Probed 2000. I use it for all of my bedding projects. Best I’ve found
I have used 2 part epoxy as well as the Bondo spot filler. Of the 2, I prefer the epoxy but both work well.
Marine-Tex
Another vote for Pro bed 2000.

Acraglas Gel….both sandable and paintable.

It’s good stuff.
