The 6" wire wheel on my bench grinder finally finally wore down to nothing. As far as I can tell, the old wire wheel is just a basic old Craftsman with gray steel bristles. From the hardware, I bought a replacement labeled as "Fine" with brass colored wires. With the old wire wheel, I could do things like take rust off old cabinet hardware or stubborn tarnishing off cartridge cases and leave a smooth, polished finish. However, the new wire wheel leaves a very rough, brushed finish. What kind of wire wheel should I buy to be able to clean items with trashing them? Thanks

Ok thanks!
Yup, the wheels labelled as soft are the best. I use a stainless soft 6" wheel on my grinder and it has been great for jobs like this.
