Is the action and magazine box long enough for conversion to .375 H&H or either .416 Rem or Rigby? I was given a sporterized rifle - Bishop stock, ears milled off, scope bases installed, bolt handle changed, cock on opening conversion, floorplate straightened, etc that is still in .30-06, and I do not need another (heavy) rifle in that caliber, so I am looking to convert it to something else. In particular, I am lacking in the big bore/heavy rifle actegory.

Yup definitley long enough. A-square uses P-14/1917 as the platform for their Hannibel dangerous game gun, which are chambered for some true monster cartridges. I have been considering building one in .416 taylor lately.

As they come they are only long enough for short mags.

Gunparts Corporation carries magazines and someone else makes extended slide rails to lengthen the factory box. You have to enlarge the magazine cutout also.

Gunparts Corp is out of the magazine at the moment.

Here is a post on the subject. The P14 is a no machining mod for making the bolt face work with H&H rounds.Obsolete Reproduction Firearms Parts Mfg

It also has a weak flat spring ejector. Wisner makes a replacement:

Enfield 1917 E17CS Ejector Assembly, coil spring type $6.25

This ejector assembly is a direct copy of the Remington 30, & will replace the fragile leaf spring military type of the Winchester, Remington & Eddystone rifles. It will NOT function in the P14 however.

The 308 norma was popular at one time but the 358 norma is a bit more powerful and it will fit in the magazine without tweaking. So will the 458...

Have fun.
