I've got an old Remington 700 whose bolt is "loose", for lack of a better term. There's a lot of side to side play in it. So much so that the bolt face will hit the receiver when closing the bolt if I don't make sure to avoid "leftward" pressure.

I showed it to the local shop and they recommended filing and polishing a bit on the receiver to a slight bevel so the bolt wouldn't snag. He attributed it to an old action that's seen a lot of use.

What have yall seen that causes this before and what did you do to fix it?

Thanks guys.

Not sure exactly what your saying but I think I would but a PTG oversize bolt and have the action tured and raceway reamed for the oversize bolt. Or just sleeve the bolt.

+1... PTG makes a nice 1 pc bolt perfect for your application!

What's the cost to have the receiver reamed for the new bolt?

I checked around a little and found a price of $175 somewhere.
