Can a rifle that is all ready chambered for 7mm-08 be rechambered to 284 Winchester?

I believe it can be done without cutting back a thread also, because of the larger case of the 284. It is usually better to cut a thread tho to make sure everything cleans up. You can also set the throat to your specs then.

Yes, but would prefer a 3" action for bullet selection.

Converting an existing 7mm-08 to 284 is an easy rechamber job, but not all rifles will feed the larger diameter 284 cases as well as the 7mm-08 cases. Also, the longer, 55mm, 284 cases may cause you to have COAL issues with some bullets that would work fine with the shorter, 51mm, 7mm-08 case.

I have found that the SA Remington 700s and 7s in 284 or the 284 based wildcats feed a little smoother with SAUM/WSM magazine boxes and followers.

Yep. A SAUM follower paired with a standard .308-family mag box works well with my 700 using the .284win case. Feeds nicely.

TIKKA T3 Lite converted 7mm-08 to 284 Win.
