Found a 700 with the detachable box mag and I'm thinking about buying it for a project. Would definitely be replacing the stock. And I'd also be converting it from DBM just because I'm not a DBM fan.

Not having owned a single Rem 700 before, I would think the "simple" conversion would be from DBM to ADL, but I'd consider BDL with some PT&G bottom metal too. Opinions?

Is this work a PIA? Simple? Not decided if I'll buy it yet, but mulling it over and knowing it would be transformed over the next year or so.
IIRC, the feed rails on the DBM are, well, on the DBM unlike ADL/BDL, which are on the receiver. Meaning, you can't take the DBM out of the equation and convert it because you won't have feed rails.
Will a Wyatt CF box still fit the DBM action?
No

You should be able to use a DBM such as the AI 308 or 223 mags since the "feed rails" are built into the mag. Has anybody tried that??

Is this right? It doesn't really make sense to me...but then again, I've not owned any personally. I would think that all 700s would use the same receiver. I realize the mag box would need to be replaced no matter which direction I went (ADL/BDL). In fact, this particular gun was a SPS that went to a DBM. I'd think I could go back...
If it used to be a BDL/ADL, sure you could "go back". If originally a Remington BDL DM, there's no feed rails apart from the magazine(s) which can be top loaded just like non DM's.
Swapping a DM out for another manufacturer's bottom metal ain't the same scenario. You'd still need BDL or ADL bottom metal if not originally a Remington BDL DM, to "change back".
You could go with any number of Manufacturers detachable bottom metal. H-S Precision, PTG, etc and have detachable bottom metal with a magazine
I Once Bought A Remington Mountain Rifle. That Had Been Switched Over To a a BDL Set Up.Org It Was a Factory D.M. It Fed Fine. Only Problem Was The Follower Would Hang After The Last Round.. I Thought About Trying a Kwik Klip Set Up. But Sold It..

Don't do it. Short answers are sometimes the best answers.
