I have a old Mauser 93 that I'm trying to figure out when it was manufactured. Really, I am trying to determine if it's a pre-1899 rifle that isn't considered a gun by ATF standards. It's labeled deutsche waffen und munitionsfabriken, Berlin C5811 on the receiver. Any ideas or recommendations where I could find this information.

What is stamped on the top of the receiver ring?

I doubt that DWM made any pre-1898 style military Mausers after 1899, so if you're trying to determine if it is a curio/relic, it almost certainly is.

Ludwig and Lowe are pre 1898 actions. I think yours is post '98
