Hey All,
I may be a bit crazy, however would or could I have my 308 Win Remington 7600 re-chambered to 30-06?

Thanks for any opinions or info, Tom

No the 30-06 reamer won't clean up the 308 chamber before you're too deep for proper headspace. There are scads of 760s and 7600s in 3006 out there, just buy one and have both.

Thanks, That's the one issue I thought would stop the project. I was only interested in that route as I'm a bit cheap. smile
Thanks again, Tom
Cheap? For the price of a quality rechamber job, a used 760 or 7600 would not be bad. Consider that you would have two rifles. Or sell and buy.

Used 760/7600 in average condition go for more than 400$. Not too many bargains in this state.

Another option is to just buy a barrel...might have to look around a little, but they are usually on Gunbroker or ebay. Simple swap.

Find somebody who has a comparable 7600 in 30-06 and who wants to have JES do a rebore/rechamber job and coordinate a trade.

Simple - sell the .308 and buy a 30/06. You should be able to come out even or a little bit ahead since there were many more 06's made than .308's.

I've been through this myself. I recommend just sell the 308, buy the 30-06. Of course a few years after you do this you will want the 308 back! Never ending loop,

A .308 WIN 7600 will probably bring more money than a comparable model in 30-06. They're a tad rarer.

This is true .308s tend to garner more $$ and don't limit yourself to RI to find a used rifle......I have seen SEVERAL 760s/7600s go for less than $400 on gunbroker (I picked up a used 760 in .270 recently for $325 with shipping and paper work). A rechamber would likely be around $200 minimum so the difference is not great (unless of course you don't have it)....and as others have said barrels do show up from time to time.

Just my 2cents,
PennDog

Just started looking for a barrel. Probably the easiest way. Thanks to all,
Tom

There is a barrel in .308 listed on GunBroker - has three days left
