Posted By: JeffG anyone threading for Rem Chokes? - 10/18/17
I'm hoping to add insert chokes to an entry level O/U gun (Manufrance Falcor), 12ga. So, I know I'm not in the market for $600 worth of Briley chokes, my budget is more like $200.

Is there anyone who is set up for threading for Remchokes, or Trulock chokes?

Thanks for the guidance,
Jeff
Most O/U shotguns have barrels that are too thin for Remchokes, may be able to use Truchokes but no guarantee there. Then there is the possibility that the barrels are chrome lined. If so, special tooling is needed to remove the chrome before reaming and threading. If the barrels are not chrome lined and have enough thickness for Truchokes, it will take all of your $200 budget to do the job. If chrome lined, it will be much higher.
I am sending you a PM with more info.
Google-

R&D Custom Barrel in CA.

Barrel outside diameter is the deciding factor.
Extra charge for chrome lined.
Thanks for the help Gentlemen, turns out my barrels are lined, so it would be cost prohibitive to add chokes. Money will be better spent on a gun that's already set up for inserts.

Thanks again
I am set up for remchokes with rearmer, bushings and tap from Brownells.
I have only done a few of my own shotguns.
The late gunsmith Randy Ketchum warned me that some shotgun bores are off center. The wall thickness based on inside diameter and outside diameter is no sure thing.
In the half dozen or so I have done, I have not seen the off center bore yet.

Contact William at Sumtoy Customs. He has very good prices and does good work.
A more cost effective solution is to buy some premium loads with very hard shot, some bargain loads with softer shot and some spreader loads. It would accomplish the same thing. You just need to spend a little time at the pattern board.
