Hi All,

I have a Ruger American Rifle in 270 and was thinking it might be nice to change the barrel out to 30-06. I home-built a few Savages years back, so I figured the RAR would be easy enough, but there are not really any factory take off barrels readily available.

I just realized that Winchester 70 and Ruger M77 barrels also use 1"x16 TPI on the tenon. Would it be as simple as buying one of those and either removing the shoulder completely, or having it moved forward enough to accommodate the barrel nut? I might need to add some length to the existing threads? I suppose I could fit the barrel without the nut as well?

Thanks for any tips and insights!

Might be cheaper/easier to get it rebored.... could pick your twist rate /groove number that way too

I put a McGowan on mine it’s certainly not a bartlein or obermeyer but it runs in the .5” with the right loads.
