Since my chest is held together by a bunch of metal. I have to reduce the amount of recoil from my larger rifles. Wife was hinting perhaps sell the magnums and bigger guns - foolish woman.

So I have tried this for inserting a mercury recoil reducer. For some of the larger guns I drilled two holes with a small space between them for a pair of reducers. Yes, the recoil reducers make the rifle heavier, but my days of shouldering rifle, 90 lbs+ pack and troumping into the woods is well past. As a disabled hunter, I find a nice comfy sitting spot and wait for something stupid or suicidal to walk within my range.

I bet that left a scar....

Glad your still able to hunt!
You could think about adding a brake. I normally detest them, but you have legitimate cause for one.
I too detest muzzle breaks, but have had to add them as well as the mercury reducers. My 45-70 and 450 Marlins each have a pair of mercury reducers in the butt as well as a big bore muzzle break from Ranger Point Precision down in Texas.

I feel for you, after getting blown out of my truck 4th tour in Iraq, my left shoulder got a makeover, but thankfully I am right-handed. I can't take heavy kicking rifles anymore but I wish to use them for hunting. Between the brakes and the mercury reducers, recoil is tamed enough that I am not worried about busting my chest open again.
Needed a softer shooter years back. Found a 270 with a recoil pad, and loaded 130 grain bullets between 2600-2700 FPS.
Getting through airport security must be a hassle.

Yea, I have titanium now in my back and shoulder. Those cards the surgeon's office gives you saying you have implants don't carry any weight. I'm always pulled aside for a full search. My wife has two hip implants. It takes us awhile to get thru if there is only one screener. We don't fly much anymore because of it. Still not as bad as Stevenwordsmith though. Got to feel bad for him.
Steven; Think of your hunting prey this way: you are improving the genetics of the animals by taking out the dumb, foolish and suicidal ones. After double cataract surgery I cant shoot hard kicking rifles either. Welcome to the club. Have fun, Mel
Sometimes "wishes" need make way for reality. If your heavy thumpers prove too much, a .243 or 6.5 has little recoil in a moderate weight rifle, and will kill anything walking North America. Or, as you have done, add weight - maybe a heavier barrel is in your future, since you don't have to pack the thing any longer.

I don't have recoil problems - I can use my .338WM as readily as I do the .243, or 260, but I'm liking that 260 more and more. I'm also shooting 10 lb M98 in .30-06, with 27" heavy barrel, and she is a sweetheart for recoil, even across the bench. 3 shot, inch groups at 300 yards doesn't break my heart either... smile. But so far, I've only used it off ATV and snow machine, where I don't have to lug the thing around (The .338 is darn near as heavy).

Steve I have similar problem. Found out about Barnes 110gr TTSX for my 270 Win. Much less recoil than my Magnum rifles.
I,m going to get some light weight Barnes TTSX for my 257 Roberts next. I did a tour in Iraq in 2004.

You might want to try 110 Barnes in the 270. Felt recoil like my 243
See thread in "General Big Game" forum.
I'd screw a suppressor on as well. That on top of what you have done so far.
Both of my shoulders have had rotator cuff surgery so I now shoot lighter bullet loads in my bigger rifles. All of them have Decelerator recoil pads and in addition to shooting lighter bullets I also shoot somewhat reduced loads in some instances. The LEE reloading manual has a good section on calculating powder charges for reduced loads.
