I want to coat a Kimber Montana in some to make it black has anybody here used used Robar's blackened stainless process on a rifle?
No but it looks really good. Anything they do is good, I am more familiar with NP3. What do they charge for that?
I haven't called them yet to see I'm sure it will be 250 buck or more

Flat black spray paint........ Easy on, easy off, easy retouch. what I did on mine.

Or you can go glossy. smile

Have it Nitrided (Melonite, Tenifer, etc)

Industrial black chrome is just a step below melonite in durability and looks great over a bead blasted barrel or action. Just don't get the black nickle finish that some cal chrome it is not much harder than Cerakote.
My Sako 85 has been “blackened.” It has some inconsistencies in its finish. Reckon why they were sold dirt cheap. I have one & I love it. Don’t care about its spots.
I'm probably foolish to coat it at all but I do a lot of predator hunting in the winter and I can't help but thinking of my brother's stainless Ruger with their smooth stainless finish coming across the field on a moon lit night He looked like Obi-Wan Kenobi with a light saber. The Montana I bought is no where as shinny as the Ruger but I'll think it will get done anyway.

Sounds like a fix searching for a problem. But I am me, and you are you. My stainless is back to stainless, but may not stay that way.

Consistency is the mark of something or other.... smile

Who offers the industrial black chrome finish for firearms?

Winchester tried some variety of black chrome to color the post 64 Mod 94 ductile iron receivers. It was not durable enough for them. Apparently scratch resistance was poor.

FWIW this company does black chrome and darn near anything else you could want: http://www.techplate.com/firearms_pl.htm
I have not used them.

YES REALLY!! or just bead blast and have a matte stainless finish, or if you want a matte black finish then have it blued
Bead blasting does give a nice textured finish for a hunting arm, imo.

the bigger the grit glass beads less reflective the finish, I have 60 grit beads that give a sand blasted looks grayish but has a smooth feel unlike other abrasives

Check Accurate Plating, Newville , Ala.
I was under the impression that stainless can't be blued

takes brownells oxynate #84 blueing salts to blue stainless steel, harder to work with, I use this on Winchester 94 receives so the dont come out multi colored
If you want to spray it yourself, I highly recommend this stuff on the cheap. It is VERY good. It bridges the gap between spray paint and real coatings.

Marker machine in Ohio, This company chrome plates over nickle http://arlingtonplating.com/capabilities/black-chrome-plating/ another: http://www.olymco.com/black-chrome.aspx Bends PVD plating looks interesting and may reduce chipping that can happen with the nickle process. https://www.bendplating.com/black-chrome-vs-black-pvd/

I have only seen work by Marker Machine Co.this was on a number of Charles Askins Rifles, he thought highly of it. Not sure if they are still in operation, they were about ten years ago.

I did not know Marker Machine was still in business. I had the bore and bolt of a brand new Remington M600 Mohawk hard chromed in 1975, yea, that's not a typo. Cost of the service was $19.50 for the bore and another $7 for the bolt. I still have that sub-MOA M600 and it has the ease of cleaning the bore is right up there with my brownings and Tikka. RJ
