Industrial black chrome is just a step below melonite in durability and looks great over a bead blasted barrel or action. Just don't get the black nickle finish that some cal chrome it is not much harder than Cerakote.
My Sako 85 has been “blackened.” It has some inconsistencies in its finish. Reckon why they were sold dirt cheap. I have one & I love it. Don’t care about its spots.
I'm probably foolish to coat it at all but I do a lot of predator hunting in the winter and I can't help but thinking of my brother's stainless Ruger with their smooth stainless finish coming across the field on a moon lit night He looked like Obi-Wan Kenobi with a light saber. The Montana I bought is no where as shinny as the Ruger but I'll think it will get done anyway.

Who offers the industrial black chrome finish for firearms?
Winchester tried some variety of black chrome to color the post 64 Mod 94 ductile iron receivers. It was not durable enough for them. Apparently scratch resistance was poor.
Bead blasting does give a nice textured finish for a hunting arm, imo.
the bigger the grit glass beads less reflective the finish, I have 60 grit beads that give a sand blasted looks grayish but has a smooth feel unlike other abrasives
takes brownells oxynate #84 blueing salts to blue stainless steel, harder to work with, I use this on Winchester 94 receives so the dont come out multi colored
If you want to spray it yourself, I highly recommend this stuff on the cheap. It is VERY good. It bridges the gap between spray paint and real coatings.

gemby58 does this kind of work - quality. Knows his stuff! Contact and discuss it with him.
I have only seen work by Marker Machine Co.this was on a number of Charles Askins Rifles, he thought highly of it. Not sure if they are still in operation, they were about ten years ago.
I did not know Marker Machine was still in business. I had the bore and bolt of a brand new Remington M600 Mohawk hard chromed in 1975, yea, that's not a typo. Cost of the service was $19.50 for the bore and another $7 for the bolt. I still have that sub-MOA M600 and it has the ease of cleaning the bore is right up there with my brownings and Tikka. RJ
