I have a 243 Winchester that I would like to have rebored and rifled to 260 Remington. I would like to keep the original barrel rather than replacing the barrel with a new one. I'm not having much luck finding someone that can or will do the job. Most I've found are no longer taking on new business or don't do bores as small as 6.5. Anyone have a suggestion of a company that can and will do this type of conversion? Thanks

I don't think that small of a difference can be done.

I'd go with 7mm08, or 308 Win if I could find someone that would do the job. I'm not sure that the barrel is large enough to go with 338 Fed, but I'm checking that option out too.

Does the barrel in question have sentimental value?
Either way if it does or doesn’t you can just rebarrel with a duplicate contour.

I thought they were one of the companies that weren’t accepting any new business and they verified that.
The rifle doesn’t really have sentimental value, but I really like everything about it except the caliber. It is a mannlicher stocked Husqvarna and I really want to preserve the look and feel.

I would try to duplicate the barrel contour with a new one if that’s your end goal.

Danny has rebored 2 rifles for me. I recommend him without reservation.

BTW 0.1 inch steel remaining per side on the muzzle end is the usual guideline for reboring. So, for the 0.308" rebore, a muzzle diameter of 0.328" before the rebore might work. Remember that remain pressure at the muzzle is fairly low with most non-magnum cartridges.

I doubt I'll have another barrel made for it. I don't want to go through the effort and expense that a re barrel would involve. I'll probably just leave it like it is...

Most reborers want more material in the bore to ensure clean-up, I have approached several wanting to rebore a .243 to .257 Roberts and they've declined citing that reason.

Jessie rebored a 416 to 458 for me. He is very fast with turn around time and fair with pricing. Would use his services again.

I've heard good things about JES Reboring, but he won't do anything smaller than a 338. I'm still thinking about the 338 Federal and might very well go with it if it turns out a 260 isn't going to work. I've had one before on a Remington Mod 7 action and really liked it.

I'm looking to rebore a Ruger77RL from 243Win to 260 Rem.
