It is possible and cost effective to change a magnum bolt face to standard? I’d rather not buy a new bolt as the action has been blueprinted. Thanks
What kind of bolt, with a sako or AR15 extractor install yes, cost $140 to $175, you can go up or down in bolt face

It’s a Remington model seven bolt
Yep I woulld go AR15 extractor, there all over the place
I doubt your extractor is going to be the issue here... and taking advice on this conversion from non-gunsmiths is worth about what you are paying for it.....

Opening a bolt from standard to magnum requires removing a bit of material off the bolt face rim so the larger diameter cartridge will fit the bolt tightly. Going the other way, however, is going to involve replacing the bolt, or, if it was a two piece bolt, replacing the front sleeve with bolt face. You need to talk to a gunsmith to see the best way to go with this IMO.

Keep in mind if this Model 7 is a magnum and you are going to a standard caliber you may need to also replace the box and follower for it to feed properly....

Seems like it would be cheaper to replace the bolt with a PTG bolt made oversized and have it fitted to your blueprinted action ... but I'm not a gunsmith so everything I said could just be nonsense.... wink

You can go from a magnum bolt face to a .473 standard bolt face without replacing the bolt, that what we gunsmiths do and it will require you going to a sako or ar extractor,
You can go from a magnum bolt face to a 223 bolt face without replacing the bolt, that what we gunsmiths do and it will require you going to a sako or ar extractor, so the extractor is the issue

All over my place I got a ammo can of them, what I meant was if a shop sells AR they more likely got extractors not so much for Sako extractord

The proper term is “AR style extractor”, you don’t just get an AR extractor out of the drawer and use it. That being said, I do prefer that style over the Sako style. It takes a little more machine work but the finished product is more rugged.

You can order a new one-piece bolt of any dia. from PT&G. Measure the your bolt way dia. See http://pacifictoolandgauge.com/remi...p-100-xr-100-model-7-600-bolt-right.html
If you want to retain the famous "3-rings of steel" feature, then specify the Rem extractor cut. All the others compromise that feature.

"there all over the place"

I was spoofing your word usage. "There" is a location or, a place. "Their " is a possessive pronoun. "They're" is a contraction of "They are".

Forgive me. Both of my daughters are school teachers and have been teaching me English for years.
