I have a Zastava 9.3x62 that needs some new sights. ( both front and rear) I would like to order a set from New England Custom guns, but am not quite sure how to measure the barrel radius. They have the formula on their website to figure sight height, but I cant find anything on getting the radius. Do I just measure the diameter at the point where the sight will sit ? Also I see that their classic sights use only one screw, does anyone know how strong they are? This is my guide rifle so it sees some abuse. Thanks
Did not look at NECG site, but usually accessories to be mounted on the barrel are cataloged by Diameter. For instance: Super Sourdough Sight # 42 for installation on barrels .648" to .679 in diameter. Can't recall seeing a sight or band asking for Radius. In any event radius will obviously be half the diameter. One screw is sufficient, but for peace of mind I usually use LocTite 680 or Stud and Bearing Mount under the entire surface. The heat in soldering makes me nervous being unevenly applied to such a small area. Don't know your barrel profile but I like post 64 Winchester factory sights with 2 screws each, you can find them used on Ebay most of the time. I may have a pair here someplace. Paul
One thing you need to consider, barrels are tapered and banded front sights are straight bored; they need to be fitted. I have done dozens of sight installs and have not had one come loose with the one screw rear sight. I normally taper-bore the front ramp sight and then solder with brownell's Force 44
