I have some Shock Hammer Bullets coming for my Mod. 94 Big Bore .356 Win. They come in 203 and 223 grain weights and are supposed to expand at a low 1,500 fps impact velocity and penetrate as good or better then a Barnes X and retain at least 80 percent of their weight with good straight line penetration and wound channels. If this is all true it will be a game changer for the .356 Win. and the 203 grain version should give boost to the .35 Remington.
I have some water jugs and old magazines to do some informal penetration tests with at 25 and 100 yards. Hope to know more late next week.

Received two box's of the 223 grain Shock Hammers and 15 of the 203 grain Shock Hammers. Must of been poor communication on my part, as the 223 grain bullets are way to long to be used in the little .356 Win. case, by almost a quarter inch and they would be to long to cycle in the Mod. 94 Big Bore action and the crimp would not fall in any of the grooves. A comparison with a factory Winchester 200 grain cartridge made this obvious.
That was a bummer to find out and I have a e-mail into Steve at Hammer Bullets asking to send the 223's back in exchange for 2 box's of the 203 grain version as I think they will work.
I will ask him to consider making a heavier bullet for the .356 Win., but doubt it would be cost effective for him to design one.
I'll be watching to see how this all works out. I've just had JES Reboring to convert a Marlin to 356Win. and am looking for bullets and loads. I'm looking to try the 180gr Speer as my load on our smallish Louisiana whitetails. I am going to have to look up these Shock Hammers...
I bought the sample 178 gr and the 203 gr for my 356. Unfortunately I have been played up with a ruptured Achilles tendon since early April

I expect to have couple box's of the 203 grain Shock Hammers here in a few days, I exchanged them as the 223 grain version way to long for .356 case and Mod. 94 action, which was a bummer for me. I will just hope the 203 grain version lives up to the reported claims of 80% weight retention and better then Barnes X penetration. If a 203 grain Shock Hammer will shoot through a good sized elk at 100 yards broadside it will work on Alaska's moose and bears.
A friend used a 200 grain Accubond out of a .358 Win. on a medium sized brown bear last fall with good results, but bear only bout 20 yards away.
Alaska Bullet Works was sold to a guy in Sitka awhile back and I was told he has to learn the trade. I will call him this week and see if he has a time line and if he will consider a 200 and 220 grain version of the very good Kodiak bonded bullet. Before they only made a 180 and 250 grain version.

No updates from me. I am a wretched blow heart. But, hopefully with in next couple months I will do some informal penetration and velocity tests with water jugs and magazines. I also have some 180 grain bonded bullets from Fury to shoot, along with 220 grain Speers and 225 grain Partitions I am turning into a flat nose with a crimp groove.
If I was hunting some where besides Alaska I doubt I would use a bullet heavier then 200 grains. I have high hopes for the Shock Hammers based on reviews and reports and the Partitions reputation speaks for it's self and the old 220 grain Speer is supposed to be a tough bullet. So many bullets, then there is the dreaded 'HONEY DO OR DIE " list............
