What scope are y’all using on the ole 30-30’s, I did some scope swapping today and installed an older Zeiss diavari 1.5-6x42 with #8 reticle on one of mine, think I’m gone like this setup.

Gonna be a fine setup, great for lowlights and effective out to about 200yds which is plenty of distance for where I hunt.

Never put one on a lever gun .

Open sights is my preferred method

I really like the balance and carryability, (is that even a word?), of a lever gun without optics. Receiver sights are my preference, but short of that, I'll use the open factory irons. My eyes will soon have more input in that regard.

When I mount a scope on a lever it was typically a 2.5 fixed, 1-4, or 1.5-5. 1.5-5x20 is now on my Guide gun.

My M94 Winchester is an "open-sights only" deal, so it has a Williams FP rear and a post-type front. That is a surprisingly accurate setup if you are used to the factory irons.

I also have a Williams FP for my Guide gun. When the mood strikes me, I dismount the scope and install the receiver sight, and as stated, the carryability is improved.

I've had very good luck with affordable Bushnell and Simmons scopes over the years. My wild hog rifle has a Simmons 2 to 7X scope that is bright and clear. 30-30 is a keeper! - Sherwood
