Can the Savage 99 action accommodate this cartridge? Can the action handle the pressures?

Ive been contemplating this build for a long time and I think I'm about ready to pull the trigger.

I googled that cartridge, apparently you can do that.

COAL is limited by the magazine length which, in turn, limits the bullets that you can use if you want to use it as a repeater, not a single shot.

There was a guy in Alaska building 99's in 375-284 about a decade or so ago with reportedly good results and no functionality issues.

The 450 Bushmaster is basically a 45-284, and it also works in the Savage 99. Chris built a rotor 99 one and barreled two for me based on the 99-C magazine action. One with a 16" barrel and one with a 20" barrel

This is the short barrel one. It does its job very well. Still have work to do on it with fitting the recoil pad up next.

Thank you for that. I appreciate the info and that is a really sweet rifle you have there.

The only real concern I had was pressures. I know the 99 is supposed to be able to handle up to 50k cup. I am not 100% sure what that will mean I need to limit my loads to in that chambering.

I own a number of Savage 99 rifles and many of them are prone to locking up with even moderate handloads. I simply do not use high pressures in the Savage 99 rifle anymore and never have any lock-up problems. Milder loads tend to be more accurate also.

The main reason I chose the 450 Bushmaster over any of the other good big-bore choices including the 375-284 is because of being rimless/beltless and its very low PSI pressures with max being 38,600 PSI and my loads probably in the 35,000 psi range. Zero pressure issues with this cartridge.

You might check with 260RemGuy I think his handle is, Jeff, he built a few wildcats based on the .284 case. I've got a 30/284 I need to send to ctw and have him make me a 450 Bushmaster.
