Picked up a Winchester 94 at the local gunshow. Has button magazine and octagon barrel. Chambered for 38-55. Research showed those as special order items. It shows honest use for its age. Made in New Haven on the barrel. I paid $1800 for it. Did I do ok? Sweet rifle. Can't wait to shoot it. Bore is clean.
Need pix and to know serial number range. The biggest problem nowadays in 'collector context', is originality. Far too many 'mix & match'. You price 'seeming to be collector territory'. Your scant info, not to scratch the surface in assessing "collector value". If shooter, seems a bit high-side to me, but whatever rings your chines!
Best!
John
Serial number shows 1923 build. Steel crescent buttplate. Sorry, not skilled enough to post pics. Can email them though.
Looks nice like that config. Not up on the value/price thing but as long as you are happy that is all that counts...mb
Thanks, bore is clean, no pits. Trying to gather what I need to load for it.
Thank you to biebs for posting the pics.
Either Bert Hartman or the Cody Museum can tell you if your rifle is factory original. Price seems fair if original.
I have one also, half round half octagon, button magazine, cresant buttplate also in 38-55. Mine belonged to my great grandfather and was passed down to me. It was made in 1904. Looking at your photos, they could be twins.
I can send you a few rounds of 38-55 ammo to try if you're anxious to try it.

Sure, thank you.
Get me your address and I'll send you some of what I shoot.
