A local pawn shop has a new Miroku Winchester 1895 in ‘06 at a very good price……$1300. (Seems like a good price ha)

I’d appreciate thoughts. Accuracy, good handloads, opinions on aftermarket sights, etc. I would plan to hunt with it and stretch its legs long range.

Midnight, my kids bought a Miroku/Winchester Color Case Hardened Model 95 Take Down in 3006 for my 50 th Birthday.
I have shot the rifle a lot in the 8 years since then. Super Smooth action, as accurate as I can be given the Williams aperture sight on it. Not one problem at all. Not a huge fan of the safety only due to the fact that the hammer will fall if safety is inadvertently placed on safe. Where this matters is in a hunting scenario and you think that you had a mis-fire, and it was the safety being placed on which is easy to do.

Have had a Browning 1895 in '06 since the early 1990's. Same gun, no safety. I set mine up as hunting rifle. Added a barrel band and drilled the butt stock for sling swivels. Changed the front sight to an XS white stripe blade to go with a Marbles tang rear. Would use a Lyman or Williams receiver sight today. Butt plate was slippery so replaced it with a thin rubber plate, not a pad. I could then lever the action from the shoulder very smoothly.
Worked up a handload with a 165gr bullet at 2640fps that would group 5 rounds in 2.25 inches at 200 yds and dropped game like lightening. Have taken several head from 175 to 235yds away, according to the rangefinders.
To this day, it remains one of my two favorite game rifles.

I have an 06 and a take down 405 Win, both are more accurate than I can hold off hand. great workmanship and function flawless. I concur with the 165gr load, I have poked 1.5" groups at a hundred numerous times. The 405 still gives me the giggles when I haul it out. I make jacketed soft pt from .40 S&W brass just for the fun of it. If you buy it. you wont regret it...

Miroku reproductions are excellent guns. My only drawback is that damned tang safety that wasn't on the originals.

They're a good rifle. You'll find they shoot very well and are well made. The rebounding hammer isn't the problem on the 95s as much as other models.

I had a Browning 1895 in 30-40 and got rid of it. Great shooting rifle that was smooth as glass, but....

Winchester/Browning/Miroku always turns the barrels to accommodate the largest possible bore diameter. My 30-40 was essentially a medium weight barrel because of that. Muzzle heavy and made it feel like I was shooting a 30" Mosin. Your 30-06 will be identical. If it were a 405, would feel light and balanced.

They do that with ALL the historic guns, 1873, 1892, 1894, etc.

The tang safety allows them to be sold in many countries that would otherwise block import.
