I have Marlin lever action in 30-30 and the Serial # 08019694 and the Brophy book does not show me the mfg date.....please help.
1992.

100-08=92
Off topic Jeff you have any Sako barrels? Send me a pm yours is full..mb
Subtracting the 1st digits of the SN from 100 works on MOST of them made from 1972 up until Remington started making them. There are a few exceptions with some special runs made during that time.
There's no info on the serial number starting with 08 on OldGuns.net, so I'm guessing it's a Remlin.

If it's a Remington made Marlin you have to date it by the two letter code stamped in the barrel.

Marlin bought by Ruger in 2020
Oldguns.net has incomplete information. I have one with a serial number that starts with 08 and the barrel is stamped JM. I purchased it lightly used in 1997.

Yep, the whole Marlin serial number thing is about no better than a crap shoot. Pretty darn confusing in a lot of ways.

It would have been made in 1992 and would be a JM rifle.
