I was offered one of these by a local friend. Fired two rounds total. No box and made in Japan. It says 223 and 5.56 on the barrel.

Is $800 a good price?

If it's steel and you like to shoot .223 , snag it before it gets away.

Jeff I hunted coyotes with one for a few years. It was less than 3/4", accurate! I finally evolved away from it because cocking the hammer when coyotes were very close spooked them. Loved the lever action, hated the hammer for coyote hunting. Guess which lever action became my favorite because it doesn't have a a hammer to spook game? LOL

On Gunbroker that would likely be listed around $1,500 if steel framed and single piece hammer.

I would have bought it and would be showing pictures of it....any BLR for $800 in very good condition is more than a fair price.....

If you pull back on the trigger and then the hammer until it is full cocked and then release the trigger it will cock absolutely silently.

Not same as Winchester. If the BLR is at half cock to start with, it will still click when it reaches full cock when pulling back on the trigger unlike Winchester. Different designs.

Likely a recent alloy frame if it is actually stamped "5.56".

$800 anything Browning lever is a good deal these days. Just look at the price a Rossi or Henry.
