Lyman 21 Receiver Sight on Model 95 - 02/12/09
Hello,
Im looking for some personal opinions on a receiver sight for one of my lever rifles. I have a Winchester Model 95 in .30-40, which was made in 1921. The rifle is not in original condition (rebarreled, Marbles rear sight, stock shortened). I am thinking very strongly of buying one of the Lyman 21 receiver sights from Providence Tool Co. to have installed. I see that Buffalo Arms is selling them (http://www.buffaloarms.com/browse.cfm/4,7197.html). My eyes arent what they used to be and I have fewer problems with receiver sights than I do with barrel sights. I know this repro sight from PTC is patterned after the old Lyman sight which was to popular on Model 95s, but Ive never seen one up close. Does this Lyman 21 have a simple ghost ring or does it take a threaded disk like most other Lyman sights? Also, I cannot tell if there is a windage adjustment to the sight. From the photos Ive seen it is difficult to see if it has windage adjustments.
Lastly, are there any concerns about this sight as far as quality and finish? Im assuming any competent gunsmith could do the install.
Thanks,
Cliff
