winchester 92 44 mag (Browning)

I just picked up a browning made model 92 in 44 mag. I'd like to us it as a back pack rifle. I'm going to change the rear sight to one of those, peep, clover leaf, aperature type things.

Basically I need a source for replacement rear sights, anyone know any?

The other thing is about loads, what's the right load for a bear protection 44 mag. Do the nosler partitions work well and does anyone make them as a factory load? I do reload but only for bottle neck rifle round, I have no experience with straight pistol rounds or crinping of any kind.

Any info on this new aquisition would be apprciated.

First, congrats on getting a great rifle. Dad gave me a Browing B92 about 20 years ago and I love to shoot it.

I use two loads in my .44's but only one I would use for bear - a Speer 300g UCSP loaded to 1213fps over 20.0g H110. My other load is a 240g JSP @ 1881fps over 24.0g H110.

Although I don't currently have any loads developed, I would also consider a heavy hardcast.

I love this little rifle I bought it New in the Box, unfired for 450$ canadian. I buy quite alot of SxS shot guns from this dealer and he gave it to me at cost.

I put a rear sight from these people (http://www.warrencustomoutdoor.com/winchester.htm)on the rifle and I'm getting 3 inch groups at 100 yards with it. I can;t believe the accuracy, I have a couple of savage 99's in 250-3000 savage that don't shoot this well with lyman aperatur sights.

I don't know if the Browning sight is the same as a Winchester.

Check out Beartooth Bullets website. Lots of info on loads etc. Tough to beat a gas checked hard cast slug in the .44 Mag.

I have a Win 94 "trails end" 44mag, and it shoots very well with a 2-1/2 X scope. I've killed a doe whitetail, a spike buck, and a 200lb black russian with it, all died in their tracks. The doe was shot with a 275gr Rem core-lokt, the buck 270gr speer gold dot, the boar 250gr Win partition gold. Out of those bullets the partition gold is the most stout and should just about kill anything within 100yds.I now shoot the 270gr gold dot in a Ruger 99/44 and its a very accurate factory load.Always wanted a 92 its one sweet litttle package, enjoy.
