Recently acquired one and having never hunted with a lever action rifle am looking for guidance ? Thinking leupold fxii 4x33 or 1.75x6x32 ? The rifle will be a woods /tree stand gun with the occasional longer shot over a cut over .

I just put a Leupold 6x36 on my newly acquired BLR in 358 Win and it's a great scope. Either one of the ones you are looking at would be very good as well. A real sleeper of a scope is the Burris FF II 2-7x35 with the Ballistic Plex, we have two of these and really like them. It's a durable scope for a great price, I almost stole the one I use on my 270 Win for the 358 but held off and used the spare 6x36.

I have an old steel frame short action BLR 81 with a VX-2 2x7x33 on it. It's about right in my opinion. I have a Burris FF II 2x7x35 with German 4 plex on a Marlin 336 .30-30. The Burris is a good scope but side by side at last light the Leupold is brighter.

I have two BLR`s in 308. One has a Leupold VX 2 3-9 and the other has a Vortex Viper HS 2.5 - 10. Both scopes are excellent, but my right eye like the Leupold better.

My 308 BLR has a Leupold VX-2 3-9x40.

I'd go VX-1 or 2 2-7x33, VX-3 or 3i 2.5-8x36 or similar. A 3-9x40 just looks to big on these rifles imo. My Pre '81 BLR in .358 Win. has a Kahles 2-7x36 on it.

I just got a Leupold FX-II 3x Big Bore with the German #4. Thinking that would be perfect fit on my 358 BLR.
My BLR81 steel framed 358 wears a Burris Signature 1.5-6x40 ElectroDot..

Respectfully, I don't agree, but maybe I'm biased since that's what I have. Either way having our own opinions is fine. Additionally, to me, looks don't matter much. It's the function that's by far most important to me and the function of the rifle scope combo is great for me. Said differently, even it I agreed with you in that it looks funny I would still almost certainly have the same setup.

Attached is my previously mentioned 308 Win for reference...

Thanks to all who replied , I have decided on the vxii 2x7 , mainly because I have a couple on other rifles and am comfortable with them .

That will be compact enough, too many scopes just look too big on a small gun like the short action BLR. Good choice...........

I hate it when it looks like someone has a scope with a rifle attached to it. I see lever-actions with 50mm objectives, 4-12x, 4-16x and larger scopes in pawn shops and such and it just looks wrong. I am certainly not against scopes on lever-actions, I have them on all of mine but one and it will get it soon. My favorite scope for leverguns is your choice the 2-7x Leuoold. I have a BLR-81 in 358 but it wears the superb Leupold 2.5-8x. It is my favorite scope of all time and it looks great on the BLR-81.

I used to have a Burris 2-7x Compact on my BLR 81 358,, great scope.but the 1.5-6 Sig ElectroDot is better (for my eyes) in the Michigan UP woods..

I have the same scope on a BLR 30-06. I don’t expect to take long shots with it so it works perfectly.

I run Leupold VX3 2.5-8x36 on My BLR's (.308, .300 WSM and two .450 Marlins)....I think these scopes look fantastic on a BLR but I also love the look of the 2-7x33 on these rifles, IMO you cant go wrong either way......Hb

VX-2 2-7X33 on mine. I wore 3-9 X32 Bushnell Sportview from 1986 until about five years ago. The VX-2 seems just right.

I have a VX 3i 2.5-8x36 on my BLR .284 Win.

VX2 2-7x33 on my BLR in 308
Posted By: Tesoro Re: Browning BLR 308 scope - 03/17/18
I just got a 7-08 ss takedown for a woods gun. I had a spare vx6 2-12x42 that I thought be would be great as I owned it! its not too big but the drop on the straight stock makes it impossible to have a cheek weld so shots go all over the place. I have low talley qd rings/mounts. I am putting a neoprene sleeve on it tomorrow that has the foam inserts to make a 'monte carlo' That will get me inline but then I was planning on putting on a skinner peep setup so I could use and pop off the scope. But then I wont be lined up for the peep with the added height of the cheek piece. So I might just bag the skinner idea and stick with the 2x for close work as the fov is huge.
I also thought about putting on a 2.5 leup scout scope with the qd rings and the skinner. Might still do that but use the 2-10 for load building/range work. Or maybe a 2-7/8 and keep it low and get rid of the stock sock.
I love the straight stock but its kinda worthless if you want to put on larger optics.

My BLR81 .308 has an old Burris compact 2x7, perfect size for the gun.
Posted By: Tesoro Re: Browning BLR 308 scope - 03/19/18
I would say the 2-7 compact is the best fit for the blr.
Posted By: Tesoro Re: Browning BLR 308 scope - 04/13/18
On my lightweight takedown 7-08 I started with a vx6 2-12. Loved the view but it didnt feel quite right even with a beartooth cheek pad. Plus it kept sliding around on recoil. Then I tried on a 2.5x scout and wasnt right for me even tho it was on a marlin 45-70 guide gun I had. Then I put on a vx3i 1.5-5x20 and eureka! I'm done and happy. Put it on low talley lightweights.

I've hunted nearly 20yrs with a BLR-81 in 358 Winchester. I put a Leupold Vari X- III 2.5-8x 36mm scope on it when I first got it mainly because I had it and it was,and still is, my favourite scope. I 've never needed more or wanted less. I have used on 8x a few times but not for shooting long distance but making sure that opening in the brush was really open. That particular scope is one of the best a hunter could ever have in my opinion. I hunt in the woods mostly but occasionally set on a clear cut. The 358 is no long range wonder so I feel the scope has never been a limiting factor in the equation. The 308 can shoot quite a bit flatter but I still think you will have enough magnification for hunting. The folks at Leupold seem to think very highly of this model also. One of my pet peeves is when someone puts a great big honking scope on a small rifle so that the scope appears to have a rifle attached to it. Just reading the opening post it doesn't appear that you were headed in that direction anyway. None of the scopes you mention would look out of place on a BLR. More importantly none of them would be inappropriate in the deer woods. There's my ¢2 .
Burris 2x7 x Compact on my BLR 358

Started with a 3-9x40 on mine, way too big. A 2-7x32 wouldn’t be bad but I plan to put a 4x on it soon, but it doesn’t go out with me much down in NC so I’m in no rush.

I like the sound of that BlackFrog. My .358 BLR wears a Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5x.

I put a 6 power x 42 leupold on my 300 Win.Mag. BLR seems just fine
Posted By: Cowboybart Re: Browning BLR 308 scope - 04/29/18
My 308 came with a Vari X III 3.5-10x40 when I bought it. It seemed too big so I put a 3-9x38 old school Redfield Tracker on it. Looks and works great.

2-7 leupold on my blr 358..
Posted By: Theeck Re: Browning BLR 308 scope - 05/03/18
I have a BLR Takedown in 308 Win with Leupold 2-7. It is okay. I got it as a woods rifle for backpack hunts in the Northeast. I wanted some magnification for open woods or beaver meadows. It is not a great shooter though (maybe user error) so I don't think I would shoot beyond 150 yards with it. I have thought about putting a red dot reflex sight on it in case I jump a deer/bear while tracking. I'd imagine a 2-3 moa dot would be fine for hunting out to at least 100. It would be weird looking having a red dot on a lever gun but I might do it anyway.

I’m using a Leupold VXR 2-7, works perfectly
