Years ago I had a BLR long action in .30-06 with a straight stock. I wish I'd never sold it. From what I gather here, folks with short action BLRs seem to consider the long actions to be clunkers. Mine never struck me as such, but then again I've never had a short action BLR to compare it to.

I want another BLR. Maybe a short action in .308 or maybe another long action in .270. I'm not really interested in other caliber choices in either action length because I have bolt rifles in those calibers and lots of ammo and brass on hand for both.

Does anyone here own both? If so, how do you like them compared to each other and which one do you usually reach for?

Nope, just a 7mm mag that took a moose this year and a .358 for deer hunting next month, both guns new to me as a lefty.
Vert satisfied with the performance of both guns.

I liked my BLR. It was a 358 with a "staright" stock, AKA no pistol grip, which I prefer in a lever action. I see no down side to an '06.

Had one of the first Belgium made BLR 308s. Another of many guns I regret selling over the years.

I’ve had a couple short action BLRs and like them. They are real handy for still hunting or in a tight blind. Have heard criticism of the long actions guns but never handled one. If you liked yours I’d say go for another

I own 2 of the newer BLR`S both shoot extremely well, the 308 win shoots under 1/2 inch at 100 yds. all day long with 130 gr. barnes bullets my hand loads, the 300 Win .mag. shoots 3/4 inch at 100 yds. with my hand loads but this rifle does have recoil but all 300 mags. do. I wish Browning made a 338 Win. mag in a BLR " that would be a powerful bear rifle with some longer range ability too " I still have a 7 Rem. mag ordered in a SS BLR but its on back order.

I have a new style BLR Stainless Laminated take down in 308. Shoots under moa with factory ammo. These are great rifles that only need a trigger job to be perfect. I have left my trigger alone because it's not too bad.

I do have a friend with a BLR in 270,it does not feel as handy and light in my hands. I would rather have the short action model myself but it depends on the individual. My friend loves his and uses it for still hunting in clear cuts. Shots are generally close but can be 300 yards or more for this type of hunting.

I have a .308 BLR 81, and a .358 BLR - really like the compact and ease of carry with both.

Elk hunting friend has a 7mm Mag that we have borrowed/loaned when a rifle/scope problem came up in the field.

Can't say that I liked it as well, it was functional, but just didn't feel as easy to carry - both in weight, and in length.

I have never had a long range rifle with a bi-pod that was fun to carry but I prefer to carry a long range magnum rifle I know that can shoot a long ways out if I need it too , and my BLR 300 Win.mag can and will do it.

I just acquired a older 308. Really nice rifle.

Of course. The ‘06 is as good as ever and never a bad choice. But I have a lot of .308 and .270 ammo because I have bolt action rifles in those calibers. So if I get another BLR it will be .308 or .270.

I have one in 450Marlin.

Shoots factory Hornady well under an inch.

Love it

I have one in .284Win that shoots very well in spite of the dreadful trigger.

I may get one in .300 WSM or .348, have plenty of ammo.

I don't believe the BLR was ever made in .348 win. You would have to find a model 71 lever to get that caliber in a Browning lever. Really nice though, if you can find one for sale.

Love my 270 wsm in the pistol grip stock , take down version.

There is an old Belgian made BLR in 308 at a local gun shop for about $370. Thing is hammered though. Seems to function fine but the finish, metal and wood, is beat.

Have enough projects, but it is tempting.

I have a 270 long action that has had the factory recall work done, it also has Neil Jones trigger job. It shoots real well.

I would consider selling it, because I prefer my 308 carbine.

Browning Model 71 in .348 is available

Being a young naive guy about 30 years ago, I let a 257 Roberts slip through my hands. But I still have a 30-06 lighting.

I have a number of 30 cal lever guns, love my Sav 99's and a .307 win 94, But my BLR has them beat as far as performance, and is as close as one can get to a bolt gun in a lever action. It shoots way more accurate than I expected it would, and makes an excellent scoped saddle gun, with a compact scope. I shoot 165 grain Nosler AB bullets at about 2800. And would feel fine using for about any hunt in the lower 48. Mine has one mule deer buck, a whitetail doe, and two cow elk to it. Things I don't like, the creepy trigger, and the glossy finish.

Sorry, I don't have both but I have a 2011 Lightweight Stainless Pistol Grip model in 308 Win. It's my primary hunting rifle. I really like it. I have no meaningful experience to compare it to anything else.

I have owned both long and short actions. 7mag and 257 Roberts. I still have the 257. My pard owned a 270 and a 284. He still has the 284. Neither of us liked the long actions. He slimmed the forend on the 270 and I tried it as I thought the shorter barrel might it seem less clunky. Not for me. We both owned short first. Bolt actions don’t seem that different from long to short except for Sako. I started with super short 17 rem then went to a 7 mag. It felt unwieldy.

Love the short actions, never had the hankering for a long action, but then again, one hasn't popped up at a price I couldn't resist. Got a 308 cheap, sold that when I got a real good deal on a 7mm08 which made that one cheap, then 257 Roberts, 325 WSM and 358. Old traditional lever that won the west nope, but they look good, feel good and shoot good, you can't go wrong with one.

I bought a blr lightning new in 1996 brought it home and cut 3/4 of an inch off the butt and took it to a smith and had the 22in barrel cut to 19in put an 11.5 degree inverted crown on it and havent looked back since. it has proven its self time and time again. I also have other calibers in the same gun but havent done anything to them but shootem! A 223, 243, 308, and they all shoot as well as I am capable of shooting. the 30-06 is my go to gun out of the many different guns I have to choose from. I am a Fan of the blr!!!

I know it's been a while, but pictures of your BLR would be awesome!

I have a short action and long action and work identically. Both are Miroku made rifles, both are takedowns
