I managed to find a used BLR with PG in 450 Marlin. I really wanted a takedown, but, couldn't find any with a PG.
Anyway, I bought a couple boxes of Hornady ammo and mounted an old 2.5x very slimline weaver I used to have on my 12 gauge slug gun. What a great combo this is. I can get two shots touching at 100 yards, even with the ancient (40 years?) scope. Handy, accurate, and just plain fun.
The Hornady ammo is so accurate I may not even reload - and that's saying something since I can reload 60+ calibers!
I think with a little trigger work this is my new hog thumper and woods companion!
I had the same experience with one. Mine was the stainless, camo straight grip stocked. I carried it thru the tunnels in the manzanita thickets for bear. Eventually I went all Savage 99 for lever guns but I do miss that one. It had some recoil though!

That's why I like that cartridge in a WSM to .450M Conversion.
How do you go about doing that?? I've never heard of such a concoction.
It's a pretty straight-forward conversion. Take any WSM rifle and screw a .450 barrel on it, bolt head is sized correctly but mag feed lips might need a slight tweaking.
From what I gather, the barrels on blrs are not screwed in, they are press fit. Are you referring to the take down versions? Do you know of an individual who has one of the conversions, or a link to a thread?
I am talking about a bolt action. I was not referring to the BLR, in which that option is available, but rather someone who had acquired a bolt rifle chambered in one of the Winchester Short Magnum cartridges. That is the "WSM" I was referring to.
If one were to want a heavier cartridge, he could simply remove the original barrel and fit a new barrel chambered in .450 Marlin, load that cartridge to pressure levels higher than the Marlin platform will allow, and enjoy the performance gain. The only hiccup might be the need to slightly adjust the lips of the magazine.
I really don't know schidt from shineola about a BLR, having never owned, fired, or worked on one, though I do like the thought of one in .358 Winchester. I have rebarreled numerous bolt rifles, though.
