Funny you should say that I spoke to them about giving my Marlin 444 the same treatment looking at about$1600
L O L... I only spent a little over $300.00 on the boat this year (so Far !!),
Maybe I could squeak this one through ! I really like your rifle !
Beautiful!
I am turning a lovely shade of green!! Absolutely gorgeous.
That is a beautiful rifle. Congratulations!

Why don't more people appreciate stuff like that? What a beautiful rifle. I suppose you could have gotten about 10 Ruger Americans for the same money...

Right?
Wow! That’s a beaut!!!!!!
Curious if you have to supply the donor rifle or is Turnbull making a clone 1892 for ya? The rifle and caliber is American art in wood and steel at it's finest.
Turnbull is supplying the rifle
You'll like it. I love my Win 92 in 44 mag.

For sure I'm have a blast with this one already

That’s a nice sized lever loop on the Chiappa. Plenty big for a gloved hand but not the ridiculous huge loop you see on some.
I looked long and hard at that Turnbull. He does wonderful work.

If I were going to do one, I'd start with a pre-safety Marlin 336A in .30-30. I really prefer the look of the 24 inch barrel and 2/3 magazine. Have him checker the stock and forend in the deluxe pattern. Add either a Lyman receiver sight or a tang sight with a Redfield Sourdough front sight and you'd have a woods rifle deer would be proud to succumb to.
Stopped in to Turnbulls today to drop off my Marlin .444 and have them color case harden the receiver ,lever ,forend cap, hammer, base and scope rings, refinish the wood and install a new recoil pad

Dropped off my 1976 Marlin 444S today, along with $4085.

Full Color Case Hardening and polishing (action, lever, hammer, end cap)

Picked out a nice piece of 3XXX for the stock work. Now for the one year wait.......

Here's the wood I picked. The cell phone pics really don't do it justice...

I’m an old dog, but I can still bury a bone.

Now and then, well l l l l....sometimes !!
Wow a year wait they told me 6 months for my .444 and 12 to 14 weeks for the 1892 Win Deluxe

That is going to be a sweet looking .444 BGunn!
Are they removing the lawyer safety & restoring it to old school?
Mine was made in 1976, so there is no safety.
I seen one in their rack that had the safety removed, so it appears as tho they will remove it.

If I was having My Marlin 44 Mag. done I would get a safety replacement like the one Beartooth sells.

mine is also a1976 so no safety
WOW!!!!! what a beauty, congrats Dan, you'll enjoy that one a whole lot more than if you'd have bought my 50-110 WCF Turnbull, that shoulder pounding beast is NOT a lot of fun. smile

Bobby didn't think so! I didn't find it bad at all
LOL, Yup, but now it fires 700 grain grease groove bullets over black powder, you may want to look into a Smith Enterprises ladder sight if you want to hunt and bang 300 yard steel with your lever rifle, it draws some mighty strange looks from your friends when you do that! grin
I'm just going with a Marbles Tang sight
10-4. smile
I have several Marlins , a Henry and 1 Turnbull 45 90
after cycling the Turnbull it makes the others feel like Chinese garbage. Even thou they are not.

Congrat's on the Fine Quality Rifle you purchased
It is Truly a Beautiful Rifle
That'll be a looker! Congrat's!!!
Dan get a Vintage marbles tang sight, the new ones are Junk!

10/4
Can't wait to see pictures of both rifles when there arrive.
And just think Dan, how much of that tax money will help abort 8 month olds. Perhaps it will go towards the $27 million your [bleep] state has put towards helping illegals with college education, but blocking the money to help the children of deceased veterans.
He has a SxS of mine to case color and fit a Silvers style recoil pad on. He has had it for months and advised they will contact me when they start and for half of required funds.

Very nice!

Does anyone know where I can find a real carbon steel piccatiny rail for a Marlin 444?
The one I have is aluminum and we cant't seem to find a true carbon steel rail,I want it CCH to match the rings and receiver...
You gonna scope a Turnbull lever gun on a pic rail?

Put a peep on that thing!

Nope! It's a Marlin that is scary accurate I'm leaving the scope I've already discussed this with the guys at Turnbull and they agree with my choice. The 1892 Turnbull custom will wear a tang sight so that will be the classic look you want

3 shoots at 100 yds with the scope .444

Dan,

Mine shoots the same as yours..

The scope on this one will be a Leupold 2-7X33.
Dan,

I think these would look a lot nicer, function as well and can be CC.

I have a complete 1892 receiver manufactured in 1893 originally chambered in 44-40. I have the orginial mag tube and spring but I think the wood was replaced and it needs a barrel. I’d like to get the wharehouse and Winchester letter to choose between having it put back to factory configuration but I maybe would like it to be done in a trapper style....I’m just not sure. I’ll need wood (most likely) and a barrel. The action is tight and complete.

What would a bigger rebuild cost from Turnbull (ballpark nothing fancy or checkering but maybe CCH) or are there any other recommendations for smiths that could do it right? I really should get the original specs first but I’m a cart before the horse kind of guy 😁

Thanks guys and beautiful rifles all!

PS.....if I don’t go completely original is .44mag too much for the action? Is there a lot of work to make a 44-40 into a 44mag? What would you guys do with an old 1892 made in 1893?

I have a model 53 in 32-20 made in 1925 that I’ll leave worn and honest.
Not sure on cost contact Turnbull and they will guide you and give you a quote
Also contact Frank http://sycamorehilldesigns.com/index.php they do excellent work and will likely be less expensive
I was given a price of $750.00 as the cost of a full CCH job on my 444 Marlin.
I didn’t get a price on a piece of regular wood.
