Yep, thats right, I'm feelin that just like these other internet folks, I have somethin of provenance that should bring 5 figures...
What it is is a Winchester 94 30-30 from the late '60s. No box, no manual, standard sights n barrel bands, but what this rifle does have is a series of stock marks generated durin one special day, on this day the ol 94 accounted for one sprinting deer thru the thick woods-one ding, chased off two annoying tresspassers-another ding or two, an ended a fight between oneiry dogs- lookin for position regarding deer guts, perhaps, an as a result got the last and worst ding.
To my mind such provenance is worth more than mouldy stained boxes, yellowed manuals, mangled tags, and assumed unfired condition.
I'll take that fifteen grand in cash, check or money order.
